Subject: Are You Real Out There? From: Doctor John Date: 01 Aug 99 - 11:07 AM How often do Mudcatters get a reply from a "real" person they've referred to on a thread, either in a complimentary or critical manner. I don't think I've seen it but I've just had such a reply - luckily thanking me for a compliment. Dr John |

Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: Margo Date: 01 Aug 99 - 01:27 PM When I related a funny but embarassing story here on the mudcat (Judo fiasco) I never dreamed it would come up in real life situations like song circle the other night. I finally met Blessings Barbara, and she quickly brought up the major points that characterize me here at the mudcat, one of the first being that story..........Yes, watch what you say, Margarita :o) |
|
Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: Barbara Date: 01 Aug 99 - 01:57 PM Aw, come on, Margarita, I didn't tell the story, I just said the word 'judo', and you were the one who . BG Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: Barbara Date: 01 Aug 99 - 02:00 PM And yes, I had that happen to me at least a couple times. What will really be exciting is the day my parents find this site, and start exploring. Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: Barbara Date: 01 Aug 99 - 07:02 PM Uhm, er, ah, well, Rick, y'see they probably know I spend too much time at Mudcat since a couple of 'catters showed up last weekend at their place in Michigan while I was visiting. Big Mick and Capt'n Bob (and their spice) had their instruments under their arms and were even on their best company behavior (Mick brought the bodhran and then didn't> play it). So my folks know what I DO, they just don't know what I SAY.BSEG Though they both are over 80, both are computer literate, and my dad is out on the internet a bit. And let me put it this way: If they run across some of the things I've said here, I'll get at least 6 months of feature billing in the family prayers. Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: bbc Date: 01 Aug 99 - 07:25 PM One of the wonderful things I noticed about meeting Mudcatters in person, both at Old Songs & then at my house this weekend is that we just picked up the conversation from where we'd left off on in Mudcat threads. In other words, we built on what we already knew of each other. I've found the Mudcatters I've met to be delightful & to be "in character" of what I expected of them from their postings. Also, yes, several times, I have sent personal email to people in response to things they've posted on Mudcat & various people have sent personal mail to me. There' more communication going on here than meets the eye &, generally, it's great! bbc |

Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 01 Aug 99 - 09:49 PM Of course we Mudcatters are real, Doctor John, but the world outside is a figment of my imagination. I just wish I had better control over my imagination. --seed |

Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: BK Date: 02 Aug 99 - 12:30 AM Both got & sent; all very freindly, & appropriate to the context of whatever was going on, I'm glad to say. After the recent discussion abt someone being dis-invited due misbehavior, I happened to pay attention to (I finally noticed) something said to me months ago in a thread, by the person mentioned; Wow, was it seriously & grossly tacky, w/both hostility & apparent homosexual inuendo that was completely inappropriate for the discussion. If this person were my patient in the real world, I would consider getting the individual into a psychiatry referral. I would hope that sort of thing doesn't start coming in personal messages - tho I suspect a public forum gives more of the desired feedback these folks want - they can show off. Anyway the personal messages sent to me so far have been as enagaging, intelligent & charming as those same folks have been in their public postings; absolutely in character & makes you glad you know them. May it always be so. Cheers, BK |

Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: catspaw49 Date: 02 Aug 99 - 09:52 AM Personally speaking, I'd like to say that I'm shy, reserved, and generally boring. I have few opinions and generally offer none when asked. At any gathering I often excuse myself from them and spend most of my time evacuating my bladder and winding my watch. Sitting at dinner with a group, I'm always the first one done and my most engaging conversational gambit is to say that I've had enough potatoes. I have to work hard to think of anything to say and I rarely understand the stories that others are laughing about. My experience with life has been very sheltered and the world frightens me. Mudcat is the same and my persona here accurately reflects what I've said. catspaw |

Subject: RE: Are You Real Out There? From: reggie miles Date: 02 Aug 99 - 12:27 PM Wait a minute. Bert is not real? Then who asked me to send them a picture of my homemade guitar? My reality is shattered and I have been set a drift in a sea of uncertainty. Oh what a cruel fate has befallen me. Why me, what have I done to deserve this crushing blow to my fragile state of mind? What next pray tell, I suppose there are more among you who hide such truths. What are we doing here? We? Maybe I'm the only one. This could all be some sort of artificial intelligence (and I use the term loosely) online program that I've been communicating with. A secret government born plot to peer into my thoughts and to gauge how I would react to different stimuli. So I'm a guinea pig am I. Here to be toyed with no doubt. Okay who ever you are out there in cyberville, this is me and I'm not here to perform for your amusement.(Unless properly compensated for my efforts. Do you like funky blues? Cash only please.) I'm flesh and blood and I'm not going to take it any more, you hear! I'm mad as H-E-double hockey sticks and I ain't gonna take it anymore! |
