Subject: what is your favourite song? From: Dorrie Date: 04 Aug 01 - 06:56 PM I didn't know what to call this thread and that is a really boring title! I know this is a really wide question but i guess what i mean is like when you are upset or just feeling abit down what song will make you feel good again just hearing it. These two always do the trick for me- 'Slide' by goo goo dolls - 'What you feel is what your and what you are is beautiful'+'do you want to get married and run away?' Because its ace remembering how someone feels about you when the world is really pooey and i cant help but smile. And 'Our Town' - cos it ROCKS!!!!!!! I know this question has probably been asked a million times but i couldn't find it dorrie xx |

Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Aug 01 - 07:24 PM Naw....It's been played before Dorrie, but you have a different twist and we all like to have a go at these. Your question is a bit different than some.......One song that will always make me feel better huh? Okay.....I got a real dumb one......."Springtime Brings on the Shearing"..........go ahead, laugh your ass off. There is something wonderful and lilting in the waltz time and the tune that makes me want to walk faster, whistle, smile, sing loudly....Click Here (and up the tempo by about half again}.......What it is I have no idea but I think we're all hit with weird stuff occasionally for which we have no explanation.....and I ain't got one for this either. (I like "Our Town" too BTW) Spaw |

Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Aug 01 - 09:17 PM Okay....I got another embarassing one............."Runaway"...Del Shannon's only big hit. Again, something in the beat/tune combo that gets me going or makes me want just one more rod. Spaw |
Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: Firecat Date: 04 Aug 01 - 09:18 PM Silly question, Spaw. Is the "Runaway" that you mention the same one that was done by The Corrs or am I thinking of a different one? |
Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: Shields Folk Date: 04 Aug 01 - 09:19 PM Kids eh! |
Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: GUEST Date: 04 Aug 01 - 09:20 PM No, it's not the one by The Corrs. Del Shannon: "And I wonder where she will stay, my little runaway, run run run run run runaway" The Corrs: "And I would runaway with you...and I never will stop falling in lo-o-ove with you..." |
Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: Firecat Date: 04 Aug 01 - 09:21 PM Charming!!!! I happen to be exactly five months away from my 18th birthday (It's August 5 here now) so I am NOT a kid, and take offence if anyone calls me a kid. I can't help looking like I'm 14!! |
Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: Firecat Date: 04 Aug 01 - 09:23 PM Thanks, GUEST. I wasn't sure of the difference, cos I've not heard the Del Shannon one. |
Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Aug 01 - 10:52 PM Look up Del Shannon on Amazon and you can get a sound clip Firecat. It finally came to me why the songs that make me feel good actually do. I suppose there are lots of folk songs in my list and certainly some Pat Sky stuff, but many of them are pop songs of the time, whatever time that was. They all evoke pleasant memories and can often take me to very specific time and place. Another "Feelin' Good" song for me is "The Letter" by the Boxtops. I can put myself into an extremely specific time and place.....and I mean to the second. I'm a couple of years into college and walking back to my dorm. I have just left Joyce at her dorm and her perfume is still in my brain as is the song that was playing in the Snack Bar at the Alumni Building......"The Letter." It's April, about 4 in the afternoon and I'm outside Kentucky Hall, hustling along so I can get back and pick up Joyce for supper and the evening. It's blue sky day and about 55 degrees......I may never have felt better in my life than I did at that moment......except when Karen agreed to marry me. Over 30 years later it's as clear and distinct as though it just happened. Wonder if Joyce has enjoyed her life as much as I have mine? Haven't seen her in 25 years or more..........The first real love, never forgotten is it? Spaw

Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: DancingMom Date: 04 Aug 01 - 10:55 PM Just ONE? Don't know if I can... Let's see. "Tangled Up in Blue" by Bob Dylan. Or maybe Steeleye Span's "The Lark in the Morning". I'll have changed my mind next week, though, depending on my mood. S |
Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: SeanM Date: 04 Aug 01 - 11:41 PM 'spaw, I've got one that'll probably top you on the "I should be embarrassed to say this, but..." Mine, hands down, is the theme music to "Disneyland's Main Street Electrical Parade". Yup. Nearly ten minutes of hideous mid-70's synthesizer retakes of fairly bland Disney classics rolled together into one great big "Baroque Hoedown" (that's what it's called. No. Seriously.). See... I'm an Orange County California brat, born and bred. I've lived in and around OC my whole life, and from birth, Disneyland was my big 'thrill' as a kid. And on top of it all was that damned parade, a christmas lights display on steroids with ELO on ecstasy to boot. *sniff* Other than that? The Vandals. Almost anything by 'em off their first two albums. Orange County punk band. "Parting Glass", the version done by CA band "The Poxy Boggards", because it's... well, sentimental. Heck, there are a ton of them. It's not the songs that cheer me up. No matter how well (or poorly) done they are, it's the memories they invoke every time the strains hit my depression blackened brain. I think that's the universal key. No matter who did the song, or what it is - it's what it meant to you earlier in your life. M |

Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: Celtic Soul Date: 05 Aug 01 - 08:35 PM Just about anything by Sting. I particularly like to listen to the whole of "Synchronicity" when I am feeling peeved. It helps me purge the nasties. However, for really good emotive stuff, I love Anuna's album "Invocation" For driving? Thomas Dolby's "Europa" and "Radio Silence". Wow. Talk about eclectic! :D |

Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: Rich(bodhránai gan ciall) Date: 06 Aug 01 - 09:35 PM It changes from time to time, but as of the last week or so, it's been "Bá Loinnireach Grían an Trathnóna" as sung by Ceoltoirí Rossa on their CD "Mé Féin Is Tú Féin". Vivid imagery that puts a lump in your throat fom the midpoint of the first verse strainght to the end of the song, and sung like angels. I'm currently borrowing this disc from a friend, but it's high on my "to get" list. Rich |
Subject: RE: what is your favourite song? From: kendall Date: 07 Aug 01 - 10:18 AM For me it's a toss up between Eric Bogles' "The band played waltzing Matilda" and Utah Phillips' "Phoebe Snow".For sheer beauty, it's hard to beat Ava Maria. |
