Subject: Hard Times Mormon version lyrics From: Jon W Date: 14 Jul 97 - 05:20 PM I've read in some liner notes somewhere that the Stephen Foster song "Hard Times Come again No More" was a favorite of Mormon Pioneer leader Brigham Young, and that there were several versions around that were adapted to the Mormon circumstances. Does anyone know any lyrics for any of these? Here in Utah we're celebrating the 150 year anniversary of Brigham's arrival by singing folk songs (at least I am). |

Subject: RE: Hard Times Mormon version lyrics From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Sep 03 - 03:18 AM Hmmm. Jon must have forgotten he posted this request. He posted the lyrics in this message a few months later, and his lyrics made it into the Digital Tradition. I miss Jon. He had lots of good information, and he was a darn nice guy. -Joe Offer- The song was apparently recorded by Rosalie Sorrels on an LP called Songs of the Mormon Pioneers. |

Subject: RE: Hard Times Mormon version lyrics From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 25 Sep 03 - 01:24 PM Two Mormon songs based on Foster's "Hard Times" have been posted in the DT and Forum. "Ditches Break Again No More," thread 2933. "Brighter Days in Store," or "Brigham's Hard Times Come Again No More," in the DT as noted by Joe, but reposted in thread 2933. In addition to Sorrels, it was sung by a choir on Mormon Legacy, Columbia Records. Mormon Hard Times A good book of Mormon lyrics is Cheney, Thomas E., "Mormon Songs From The Rocky Mountains," University of Utah Press, 1981 reprint (Also Univ. Texas, Pub. AFS, 1968) |
