Subject: Tech: Recommendations on vocal mic's From: ToulouseCruise Date: 19 Nov 03 - 04:01 PM Through a friend, I was able to purchase a microphone that looks - and more importantly, sounds - almost identical to the Shure SM58 mic. It is a SupraLux PRO248, and I have nothing but rave reviews for it personally... My voice projects very well (aka -- TURN DOWN THE MIC! YOU'RE MAKIN' ME EARS BLEED!), mostly in a low to mid range. My bandmade has a mid-range voice, hitting higher notes on occasion, and it seems to suit him well... Has anyone else had experience with this mic over a longer term? how does it hold up? comments also welcome on the Shures, AudioTechnica's, and other popular mics out there.. Brian from Toulouse Cruise (yes, it can be pronounced Two Loose Screws) |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recommendations on vocal mic's From: cobber Date: 20 Nov 03 - 03:13 AM We used the SM58s for years and thought they were the most natural mic of all which can be important for folk. They were great for making accoustic instruments sound...well, accoustic, which seems to be something a lot of festival sound guys just can't do. If the mic you tyried is as good as that5, they'd be well worth trying. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recommendations on vocal mic's From: mooman Date: 20 Nov 03 - 11:33 AM We have used SM58s for vocals and SM57s for miking instruments for some time now and they have proved very reliable and durable with good sound. I don't have experience with the others mentioned above. Peace moo |

Subject: RE: Tech: Recommendations on vocal mic's From: ToulouseCruise Date: 20 Nov 03 - 11:34 AM Last night, I had a chance to put the PRO248 head to head (or more accurately, voice-to-voice) with the SM58.. couldn't see a difference with a variety of singers (though I normally don't let my mic out to just anyone, heh). Like yours, Richard, this one is about a third of the price of a Shure... hoping it will last a while! Brian |
