Subject: galway sessions From: JulieF Date: 29 Jun 06 - 04:54 AM I will have the pleasure of passing through Galway city on Sunday 2nd and again on Saturday 8th July. Can anyone recomend any good sessions on those evenings. Preferably as non laid on for tourists as possible, mainly tune but where they will let a passing stranger have an odd song. Will settle for completely tunes and just listen if necess. Thanks J Have got the 9th in Dublin sorted |
Subject: RE: galway sessions From: GUEST,Martin Ryan Date: 29 Jun 06 - 06:29 AM Best starting point in Galway is probably the Crane Bar, in Sea Road. Not sure of what's on over that weekend but it's generally reliable and not too tourist-oriented. As ever, sidle up to a musician between sets and ask what's around! Regards |

Also Taafes which is just across the road. The Roisin Dubh features pay-in bands and artists. Used to have trad sessions earlier in the evening, but I'm not sure if these still happen there. |
Subject: RE: galway sessions From: JulieF Date: 30 Jun 06 - 07:41 AM Thanks for the info. I have been know to sidle up to musicians and declare that I'm looking for a sesssion or even round them up by asking them if they are looking for a session Can get you some funny looks , I think I need a dummy instrument case to look legit. Thanks again - looking forward to my two very brief stays in Galway J |
