A new verse from somebody other than Morris Blythman.

New? I learned it in 1969 from a real Scotsman!

Here's an old verse to 'The Breakaway' that's seldom been aired I reckon.

She's the Belle o the Banks
An the Uppah Ranks,
She's the Tories tribal chief,
An hir freens dine weel on usquaebae
An hunks o guid Scots beef.

This features on Morris's original typed songsheet which I found in the Janey Buchan Collection at Glasgow Uni. This verse doesn't feature on any of the recorded versions on Tobair an Dualchais (of which Ray Fisher's is my favourite), the Ding Dong Dollar LP or on the versions by Alex Campbell or The Dubliners.

It's likely Morris dropped this verse as he deemed it not strong enough but seeing as everyone else is adding verses why shouldn't Morris add one of his own?

Actually the verses about Princess Margaret were added by Morris in 1960 after she got married.
