Subject: RE: Folkways Records still available From: dick greenhaus Date: 12 Oct 02 - 08:28 AM To amplify-- Many of Folkways' recordings have been re-mastered (particlarly the Lomax material) and are being sold under the Rounder label (although Bear Family has issued a few, also.) THe ones that haven't been re-mastered are sold as custom CDs or cassettes by S-F. CAMSCO carries all the re-mastered ones; you can also get them directly from S-F (at a significantly higher price.) Custom copies are best obtained directly from S-F. |
Subject: RE: Folkways Records still available From: Mike Regenstreif Date: 12 Oct 02 - 09:49 AM Dick, Thr Lomax material (eventually 150 CDs) that Rounder is reissuing is not from Folkways. It is from the Alan Lomax Archives; much of it field recordings. The entire Folkways catalogue is available from Smithsonian Folkways, either as remastered reissues on the Smithsonian Folkways label, or as custom CD-Rs or cassettes. Rounder was Smithsonian Folkways' distributor early on. However, they switched to Koch quite a few years ago now. Mike Regenstreif |
Subject: RE: Folkways Records still available From: dick greenhaus Date: 13 Oct 02 - 09:32 AM Oops. Right you are, Mike. I always get the LOC and Smithsonian confused. CAMSCO does carry the re-mastered Folkways CDs, but not the custom ones. |
