Subject: Tune req: Rodi Mac Corlai/Roddy McCorley From: GUEST,JimmySeal Date: 03 May 05 - 11:55 AM Hey, I'm new here, but does anyone know where I can find a recording of the _Gaelic_ version of Roddy McCorley, either in .mp3 or on CD? I've found plenty of the English version. A thousand thankyous, JimmySeal |

Subject: RE: Tune req: Rodi Mac Corlai/Roddy McCorley From: greg stephens Date: 04 May 05 - 05:37 PM I've never heard of an Irish language version, though I suppose someone may have made a translation and recorded it. Good luck in your search. |
Subject: RE: Tune req: Rodi Mac Corlai/Roddy McCorley From: GUEST,Declan Date: 05 May 05 - 05:24 AM The translation wasn't done for the Mudcat thread but appeared in at least one song book of Gaelic songs I had growing up. But I think its fair to say its a translation to the Gaelic rather than an original. I'm not aware of any recordings. |

Subject: RE: Rodi Mac Corlai/Roddy McCorley: seek recording From: GUEST,Guest, Big Tim Date: 05 May 05 - 04:21 PM I've never come across a Gaelic version of the song either. I assume that the enquirer is asking about the song by Ethna Carbery, not the older ballad of '98 that inspired it? I've never heard a Gaelic version of that one either! Carbery's song was certainly written in English, published in 1902. Bobby Sands wrote a long poem about McCorley, in English, but he did use the Gaelic form of his name. |
