Subject: RE: BS: Blah, Blah From: Don Firth Date: 08 Feb 05 - 07:39 PM Really hard to do, Maggie. There's another one I have the same trouble with because of the same radio program. They opened "The Lone Ranger" with that chunk of William Tell Overture, but within the program, under the narration, they played Liszt's Les Preludes. Pretty dramatic stuff. I think I got my love of classical music from early exposure of this kind. Lots of kids' programs used excerpts from classical works as incidental music. But for some of the cartoon images in Fantasia, I could give Walt Disney one helluva dope-slap! Don Firth |
Subject: RE: BS: Blah, Blah From: Stilly River Sage Date: 08 Feb 05 - 10:29 PM Don, Have you seen that Tom and Jerry cartoon from about 1947 that won the short subject Oscar? It was to one of the Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies and is quite a hoot to watch. And the cats singing opera on the fence outside Porky and Daffy's window--yes, I know exactly what you mean about getting a love of music from those early cartoons. And it will be no surprise to you that we could ask "Dad, what's that music?" and he'd not only tell us, he'd pull out his recording of it and play it for us. (I still miss him!. . .and I learned the lesson well--I do the same thing with my kids!) When Dad died in 1997 I flew up to the Northwest, and though it seemed like a strange time warp in which months instead of days had passed, when I went out to his house and was ready to start his car I saw his radio and bet myself that it would be on KING-FM. And I further challenged myself to our old game of "drop the needle." I started the car, the radio was on KING-FM. A symphony was going full tilt, winding down, and it was about the last six bars of a Brahms symphony. I nailed it, and that was the first of many times that I felt he was right there with me, cheering me on. (And now it's a good story, not a sad story, though there is still a bittersweet taste). Subject: RE: BS: Blah, Blah From: Once Famous Date: 08 Feb 05 - 10:31 PM CStrong, First of all I am not your "homie" whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean. As for my "scrotes" which I find is another completely ridiculous term and is not nearly effective as let's say, "your big hairy balls on a rail" I think my post probably has much more to say then just about all of the rest of them combined. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blah, Blah From: CStrong Date: 08 Feb 05 - 10:41 PM Martin OK. Read the posts. Twice. They were playful. None said diddly-squat about anything political. It was playtime. You came roaring in with a big blast at liberals. From whence? "Homie" is a reference to the fact that we live in the same state (geographically speaking.) Hard to see any offense in that. As for your suggestion concerning the anatomical reference, I have to agree that it's more graphic. I just didn't want to be that artless. And I can't attest to the size and hairiness of the equipment involved. No photos, please. Why are you so mad all the time? PS: In another thread I object to your unprovoked insult of Art Thieme. Go read that twice, too. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blah, Blah From: GUEST,Skipy Date: 09 Feb 05 - 04:34 AM Just found this out there:- The Whelk Appreciation Society is not affiliated with the Lobster Liberation Front. WAS deals primarily with Gastropod Molluscs and does not concern itself with the 'mad world' of the crustacean. WAS is an Appreciative Society and as such demands that it's members sample the delights of Marine Borne Snails. Accordingly, the liberation of such (whether Mollusc or Crustacean) is not part of our Mission Statement. # posted by Gromit : Thursday, July 29, 2004 This a straight "cut & paste"! Subject: RE: BS: Blah, Blah From: Once Famous Date: 09 Feb 05 - 09:57 PM Playful CStrong? I think it's pretty stupid. You know, posters like you sure can dish it out but they can't take it. I said what I meant and I definately meant what I said. Blah, blah, blah reads like many other threads here, especially many political onnes by the radical far-left. By far, I am not angry all of the time. I just dropped in to post an opinion. As far as insulting Art Thieme, so what? Maybe he deserved it, though I don't recall the exact incident that your are referring to. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blah, Blah From: JennyO Date: 10 Feb 05 - 06:09 AM Time for the blah blah song: Old Blevins (Austin Lounge Lizards) We had a little quarrel, she and I She told me just to curl up and die I crept out to drown my sorrows, at a joint called No Tomorrows Where the old man came and looked me in the eye Old Blevins I could tell he had some wisdom to impart Some story that was etched and burned and stamped upon his heart Then his eyes began to glisten, 'cause he could see that I would listen We sat there at the bar 'til nearly three And this is what Old Blevins said to me He said "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah In Tijuana, blah blah blah, back in 1963 Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah You should have been there blah blah blah" Is what Old Blevins said to me I sat there and I listened to his words As they flapped around my head like little birds Had he gone plumb 'round the bend, or could I just not comprehend His lips were writing lines I could not read When suddenly, it all came clear to me As he said "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Them crazy hippies blah blah blah blah no effect on me Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah The Great Depression blah blah blah" And he would not leave me be Old Blevins was still talking when I seized my chance to flee Back home she's never known I'm not the fool I used to be But I know that a man and a woman's lives were somehow changed By a loathsome toothless geezer, incoherent and deranged And my memories of that evening fuel an inner mounting fear That I might become Old Blevins anywhere that they sell beer And I'll say "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah I don't remember blah blah blah blah blah blah Mistakes were made Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah How 'bout them Cowboys? blah blah blah" Like Old Blevins used to say Old Blevins |
