Well, I hadn't spoken with my Couzin Rufus in a while so I called him this evening to get caught up... During the conversation he mentioned that Retha Mae had been complaining about his Chevette collection out back their half-a-double-wide and so...

... he says he is ready to let 'um all go... All 14 of 'um... Has one from every year they were made (1976-1987)... None run except the '81...

He says they are now collectors items so he'd like to get $14,000 for the entire collection... I told him that sounded a bit steep but told him I would ask around...

Anyone got $14,000 they don't need or want any more???

Well, I loved them pics, Eb.... Reminds me of Rufe's back yard... I suggested a few years ago that he drag 'u all out front of the half-a-double-wide and line 'um up and paint 'um all green and let them be a hedge row that you don't have to trim... Of course, Rufus got all pissed off at that idea saying that "one day" he'd have 'um all restored and running...

Yeah, right...

My brother had a Chevette, or maybe it was a Chevy 2. Anyway, one day my mother asked if she could take it to the store. Bro said, "It's got a floor shift -- can you drive a manual floor shift?" She looked at him in disgust and replied, "What do you think I learned to drive on?"

His was lime green, too.

He also had purple satin sheets. Last time I saw them his wife was using them as window drapes in the bathroom.

That was a good idea about the hedge, Bobert. I believe you're beginning to think like me!

I thought I was bad, collecting pretty dishes, but it sure seems more reasonable than collecting Chevettes.

I hope Rufus makes lots of money off them. Or maybe General Motors would pay him to quietly make them disappear.

I'm wondering, does Rufus have my old, red, 1976 Chevette? It would be the one with the strut poking up through the rusted front passenger-side wheel well.

Sorry, Janie... Rufe's '76 has the same strut problem but his was originally brown... It's now rusty brown... Might of fact, you can no longer tell where the faded paint fades into rust... If he had painted it green when I suggested it it might not be a rusty but Couz gotta a head full of Sacrete...
