Subject: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Pauline L Date: 27 Dec 04 - 12:27 AM I'm having a great time spending part of the holiday season with Sinsull. She knew that I was depressed, so she invited me to visit. Isn't that great? We've been having a good time doing nothing. Well, not really nothing. We've been eating to excess, sleeping long hours, talking on and on, and playing with her four cats and Kendall's dog (she's keeping the dog while Kendall and Jacqui are away). Now Sinsull has a chest cold. She keeps telling me, between bouts of coughing, that this is not a serious illness and that she'll be all better very soon. I know that this is not a serious illness, but I also know that it can make you feel crummy. I think some cheer and get well wishes from Mudcatters would speed her recovery. Pauline |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: CapriUni Date: 27 Dec 04 - 12:49 AM Indeed! This sounds to me like a grand excuse for some hot cider with lots of ginger and honey, and maybe even a little brandy thrown in! Wassail, Sinsull! |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Ebbie Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:35 AM I hope you go from the miserable to the cranky phase very quickly! Be well, Sinsull. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: KT Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:38 AM Sins, take good care. I second the advice for lots of ginger and some good ol' chicken soup couldn't hurt either! And do what you'd say to Seamus....."HEAL!" KT |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 27 Dec 04 - 02:08 AM I say, "What the hell are you talking about?" But get well anyway. Seamus |

Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: open mike Date: 27 Dec 04 - 04:14 AM sorry i missed you, SINSULL, in the folk chat... glad we got the cat back...take care--I know you do a lot to help take care of others...now time for you!! feed a fever starve a cold, or is it the other way around? in any case i hope you are better soon! |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Peace Date: 27 Dec 04 - 04:51 AM Feed a cold and feed a fever. Get well, SINSULL. The British did a study in which they found that if you treat a cold it will last for seven days, and if you don't it lasts for a week. G'luck. Bruce M |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Alba Date: 27 Dec 04 - 05:14 AM Sins...Get better quickly ma Dear. Nothing like a chest cold to make you feel down:>( Thinking of you and hope this nasty thingy leaves your Bod soon. You could try my remedy (taste like Sh** but works) 4 tablespoons Cider Vinegar 1 Clove Garlic crushed 2 Tablespoons Honey Mix in small jar. Leave in Fridge for a few Hours then take tiny sips....clears the chest very quickly. Like I say doesn't taste too good, although I don't mind the taste as I have found it to be very affective. Hope you get better very soon Darlin. Love and Light Jude |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: gnu Date: 27 Dec 04 - 05:22 AM Lots of HOT tea and grub and sleep. Hmmm, four cats and a dog. Forget the sleep. Burcie's right about the time. Just remember, any longer than a week and it's time to see the doc. They actually have a medicine that will destroy the little beasties in four days but I wouldn't pay the bucks for the last three days unless it WAS serious. Most doc's around here won't prescribe it unless there are complications or you are elderly. Anyway, you ain't gettin any doc on the line today... everthing here that was going to open despite the "holidays" isn't going to open until we get shovelled out of these blizzard conditions. I assume it's not very nice in Maine either, eh ? |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 27 Dec 04 - 06:02 AM Dear sister-in-sickness- I didn't think germs were allowed to cross state borders! We've been coughing and snorting here, too, but are feeling much better (after missing lots of Boxing Day fun *mope*)- You have my deepest sympathy, dear Mary! Keep resting, it's the best of all the cures, and take anything and everything that might ease and urge the healing- do you still have any rum balls left? They've got to heal you right up! Thanks, PaulineL, for letting us know! Isn't Mary the dearest? Allison |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Liz the Squeak Date: 27 Dec 04 - 06:46 AM It's trans ponded..... I've got my first cold this winter... Manitas had it last week. Usually colds are 3 days coming, 3 days here and 3 days going. Any longer and it's a chest infection. Take care and remember, there is no decongestant better than Chicken soup... it's been proved! I'm off for a jolt of vitamin C now... Santa left me a satsuma! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Tinker Date: 27 Dec 04 - 08:29 AM Pauline, I'm so glad you can be there to help with the kitties and Seamus while Mary has a chance to actually rest and get better. My youngest boy has a chest cold at the moment and I'm hoping it doesn't spresad throught the rest of the house. Make sure you both get lots of hot tea and rest up for New Years. I've got a house full of "littles" desending tommorrow so I've got to begin the whirlwind clean... love to you both tink |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: John MacKenzie Date: 27 Dec 04 - 09:31 AM Well Sins I would try Alba's recipe, as based on the theory that the worse a thing tastes the more good it does, you should have a miracle cure after one sip. ;~) Giok |

Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Fortunato Date: 27 Dec 04 - 09:40 AM Sinsull, best wishes for the new year, and I hope you're all healed up soon. When I was a child and had a chest cold my mother would rub Vicks Vaporub on my chest. Of course my mother is in Virginia and you're up north so you'll have to find someone else to do it...ahem. cheers, chance |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: SINSULL Date: 27 Dec 04 - 09:44 AM My own thread for a chest cold? Joe Offer will be furious! Thank you all. Poor Pauline is about to find out that I am a very unpleasant patient. SINS |

Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: GUEST,kendall Date: 27 Dec 04 - 10:07 AM Sorry to hear you are unwell. There is only one sure cure, vitimin C and zinc. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: GUEST,ranger1(currently in NH) Date: 27 Dec 04 - 10:33 AM Hey SINS, I'll be back across the bridge from you by this PM. Let me know if you need help with dog walking. I'm currently unemployed, so TONS of time! Tami |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Hollowfox Date: 27 Dec 04 - 10:35 AM Well, Pauline, thank you for playing Nurse. Sins, I add the advice to sleep with your head and chest elevated. Get well, stay well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: curmudgeon Date: 27 Dec 04 - 10:45 AM Do get well, Mary. New Years Eve is fast approaching, and the extended forecast portends mild enough temperatures for us to be able to leave the house/woodstove unattended that night. See you Friday -- Tom |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Allan C. Date: 27 Dec 04 - 11:27 AM Hey, its just as Kendall says... vitamin C and zinc - so drink some milk from a galvanized steel bucket and eventually your troubles will be over. Oh, wait, I now remember that you don't like milk. Well then, cook some broccoli in that bucket instead. That should have about the same effect. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Ebbie Date: 27 Dec 04 - 11:46 AM Ah ha! Sinsull is feeling better. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: jacqui.c Date: 27 Dec 04 - 12:16 PM Hi Mary - I think this one travels - the Cap'n's got a great cough at the moment - I think the tail end of a virus. I'm glad that Pauline's there to take care of you, even if you are a bad patient it's a good idea to allow yourself to be fussed over for a while when you're like that. Vitamin C and zinc is good, but a Jack Daniels will make you FEEL good as well! |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Pauline L Date: 27 Dec 04 - 12:55 PM An update on Sinsull: The cats and dog are taking very good care of her. They lie in bed and sleep with her. She is not at all a bad patient. As her chief human caretaker at the moment, I like everyone's recipes for get well medicine -- some more than others. My years of work at the FDA have equipped me with knowledge of foods, drugs, and toxins. I really laughed at Allan C's advice on the galvanized steel bucket. I won't even try to feed her a concoction of cider vinegar, garlic, and honey. Sinsull is too tired to eat my good cooking, but she likes the smell, so it won't be long now. Thanks for everyone's good wishes for her and me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: gnu Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:15 PM Jacqui.c... It's better to have the tail end of a virus than a virus in the tail end. (Hey, at least I'm tryin.) Just be thankful you're gone for the storm. I don't know how Maine is making out but the snow plows were just taken off the roads here in Moncton and a surge warning is in effect along the Northumberland Straight. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: kendall Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:22 PM I hope it's not as bad as the one they just got in Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka. Horrible tsunami, thousands killed. I wonder why the papers keep calling it a "tidal wave"...it is a "Seismic wave" |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: open mike Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:26 PM what's a surge warning? |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Peace Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:28 PM I ain't gonna touch that one. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Ferrara Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:45 PM Ah, Sinsull, lovely lady, if you haveta be sick, you've arranged it very well -- four cats and a dog to snuggle with, and Pauline who, I can vouch for this, is a very good caretaker. (Pauline once took fantastic care of me at the Getaway, the year before I got my new heart. At that time no one knew I had a heart problem -- the docs thought it was asthma -- but I was sick, exhausted, and coughing my head off. Pauline noticed, and arranged all kinds of support and help to get me through that miserable weekend.) Well Sinsull, be well soon! And Pauline, get LOTS of rest, hot tea, and everything, because as you know these virus-y things like to visit as many folks as possible over the holidays ;-) Hope the rest of your holiday is delightful. Peace and love and good health to you both, Rita |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: gnu Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:47 PM sTORM SURGE, AS WHEN THE SEA LEVEL RISES ABOVE NORMAL TIDE DUE TO THE "PUSH" OF A STORM. sHEDIAC bAY HAS A FETCH REACHING ALL THE WAY TO nEWFOUNDLAND... NUTS !!! There. When the wind blows at 100kph, as it is now, low coastal areas are prone to flooding. My buddy just called from Pointe-du-Chene, which is a coastal community within Shediac, New Brunswick. The ice is already scraping his house foundation and the surge is expected to crest about 17:00 AST. The waves are hitting the houses on the inland side of the steret he is on... ie, over his house and across the street. His wife is safe at work on higher ground so he's just loving it... his old Pontiac will be adjusted as soon as the insurance agent can get around to it. A sense of humour is good to have if you have no sense when you decide where to live. The poor dog is going nuts, but he says, "Hey, it's a purebred lab so it can swim if it has to." |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: gnu Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:50 PM Say now... I knew somethiong didn't sound right about that last post. The SPRAY from the waves hitting the armour stone at the edge of his lawn are going over the house... not the waves. Please forgive my lack of clarity. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: gnu Date: 27 Dec 04 - 01:58 PM Hospitals are requesting 4X4's and snowmobiles for staff and patient transport. See ya later! |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Pauline L Date: 27 Dec 04 - 02:29 PM Gnu, pardon my ignorance, but where are all these dire things happening? I just checked the weather forercast for South Portland, Maine, and it's just very cold and windy, some snow showers. Pauline |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: CarolC Date: 27 Dec 04 - 02:46 PM You certainly have my sympathies, Sinsull. My chest cold has now moved up into my head and it seems to have decided to take up residence there for the winter. Here's hoping yours doesn't pull the same trick. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: CarolC Date: 27 Dec 04 - 02:47 PM Good luck with the weather, gnu. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: gnu Date: 27 Dec 04 - 05:43 PM Yeeeeehaaaawwww !!!! That were fuuunnn! I even met a couple a nurses my age what are single. Since I gave up the bar scene years ago and don't go out much at all, that was exciting. The driving was fun too... I love Cat-putt-Cat (I AM demi-Acadien MOI !!!) Many vehicles stranded. Only helped eldery drivers get unstuck... fuck the yuppies who buy a Cat-putt and think they know how to drive. Pauline... I am in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Since the sun went down and stopped feeding the storm energy, things have subsided and the plows are out again. I won't even bother to shovel until morning. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: SINSULL Date: 27 Dec 04 - 05:52 PM gnu, Don't get yourself killed having so much fun! I slept all day...no kidding. Bed at 10PM. up and showered and took care of animals at 9:30AM, went back to bed until 2PM. Got up for a cup of tea and then slept until 5:30. Poor Pauline - she's had an exciting day. Seamus has cabin fever. Dog park tomorrow. SINS |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: SINSULL Date: 27 Dec 04 - 06:04 PM Ranger 1 - thank you for offering to walk Seamus. He and Pauline are making do with tossing a ball in the back yard. And Kendall's daughters are on call if I need them. But thank you. Any chance of making it New Years Eve? |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Peace Date: 27 Dec 04 - 06:11 PM SINSULL, You're starting to sound better. Watch the infection doesn't get into your chest. It is a hard one to get rid of if it does. Had one dragging with me since early September. Bear of a cough. Had two rounds of antibiotics. Still have it. I have been using cigarettes to help me cough it outta my lungs. They help. BM |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: gnu Date: 27 Dec 04 - 06:17 PM What did I say above ???... "Lots of HOT tea and grub and sleep. " That's why you sound so much better. As far as getting killed having so much fun, I gave that up years ago, the getting killed part that is. Caution is the better part of valour, I always say. |
Subject: RE: BS: Get well, Sinsull From: Peace Date: 27 Dec 04 - 06:19 PM HOT pea, grubs and sheep? I don't get it. |
