Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: GUEST,JimP Date: 15 Aug 06 - 07:05 AM I'm really tempted to ask for the sheet music as well, just to pile on. To tell the truth, though, I really just want the chords. Since the Great and Mighty Sorcha's sheets apparently don't have them, I guess I'll just have to try and 'finger' them out on my own. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: Sorcha Date: 15 Aug 06 - 08:44 AM Standard E minor progression.....look in the Fakebook for either Road to Lisdoonvarna or Swallowtail Jig...just about the same chords. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 15 Aug 06 - 09:23 AM To make it easier, I posted the ABC from the thread mentioned above to theSession.org. Now whomever wants the sheet music, they can get it there. Kilkelly, Ireland. Hope that helps |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 16 Aug 06 - 06:22 PM You're welcome, Sorcha! (BTW, sorry to hear about your bow troubles). Ref, the words,/a> are HERE and the chords are HERE at the Mudcat. Don't have to locate them elsewhere. For the newcomers, there is a box at the top right of the screen, which says, Lyric and Knowledge Search. It will allow a search of the information found in the Digital TRadition database of songs, AS WELL as the Mudcat Forum. Included are many tunes in MIDI format. In addition, if you look WAY UP, You can see a box that says Quick Links. Well, JUST BELOW that is a line that includes the word LINKS. if you click on that, you can locate information which many members of the Mudcat have found useful. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Kilkelly Ireland From: GUEST Date: 10 Sep 06 - 10:36 PM HI, I found the lyrics at www.kloosterman.be/topten-jones.php I found it under Jim's name I think. Also sung by Jim brannigan. It sounds a little different from Paul Jones but it's there along with the words. My Mother is a war bride from Inverness Scotland. She's never heard it before. At the age of 89 it hit home harder than I had expected. She cried and told me of the parralles in her life. She moved to NFLD Canada in 1945. Hope this helps you. Saxon_pg |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 03 May 07 - 08:45 PM Sent e-mails to the two guys who can't click on my link above. I swear some people can't read English. 8-) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: Jeri Date: 03 May 07 - 09:13 PM My personal feeling is that if people really want the music they can read the damned thread. If they ask a question, they can read the damned thread for the replies. I don't e-mail people who are too lazy to do these things. I don't e-mail people I don't know, PERIOD, unless I have some feeling that they're genuine. It's just too easy to wind up on spam directories, and people often get addresses by writing, "e-mail me at..." If other people feel comfortable winding up in the address books of strangers who may be e-mail harvesters, who may send spam themselves, who may one day be infected by a data-harvester worm that collects your address, or who sends your e-mail address un-protected in the headers of messages to everyone in their address book, one or more of whom may one day be infected with a data-harvester worm, then it's their prerogative. It's not something I'm going to risk, though. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 03 May 07 - 09:18 PM Jeri, I don't worry about it, Jeri. I figure that some people are genuine. I did point out that they could have had the sheet music if they had read the messages in the thread. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: Sorcha Date: 04 May 07 - 05:24 PM Jeri, I've rather felt that way about this damn sheet music for a LONG time! Read the bloody thread!!! (There are days when I wish I'd never discovered it!--LOL) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 04 May 07 - 08:07 PM Got a reply from Seth Hackett saying he was looking for a "more complete" version. What does he mean by that? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: Sorcha Date: 04 May 07 - 08:09 PM I haven't the FOGGIEST notion!!! We've got the melody, the verses, the chords....maybe he could just write his 'more complete' version??????? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Kilkelly Sheet Music From: Jeri Date: 04 May 07 - 08:15 PM He sounds like he wants an arrangment. I agree with Sorcha. Perhaps he can do some research or write his own. Most musicians I know want the bare bones so THEY can flesh it out. |
Subject: Chords Add: KILKELLY (Peter Jones) From: GUEST,Reverand Dave Date: 21 Feb 08 - 05:06 PM Wow! What a treat to find this thread. I did a Google search on Steve and Peter Jones after listening to their album just now that contains this song. I purchased it at the Bethesda Co-Op back in 1985 or so and it has always been one of my favorite albums. The stereo has been in storage for many years and it has been a real treat having it out again and listening to some of these rare gems. I wanted to see if they were still playing but couldn't find any current references to them or a website for them. Anybody know if they are still playing? I've been living in California for the last 20 years but do occasionally get back to the DC area and would love to hear them play again. At any rate, they have all the lyrics to their songs as well as the chords on the liner notes to the album and this is what they have for this song. I've used the preview function to do my best to get the chords lined up with the lyrics. Am C Kilkelly, Ireland, Eighteen and Sixty, G Am My Dear and loving son, John C Your good friend the schoolmaster Pat McNamara's G Am So good as to write these words down C G Your brothers have all gone to find work in England F G The house is so empty and sad Am C The crop of potatoes is sorely infected G Am A third to half of them bad C G And your sister Bridget and Patrick O'Donnell F G Are going to get married in June Am C Your mother says not to work on the railroad G Am And be sure to come on home soon. The rest of the verses repeat this pattern. The album says this song was "taken from letters written to our great-great-grandfather from his family in County Mayo". If anyone knows if this album, or any other material by Steve and Peter, ever made it to CD, please let me know. My email address is david at vibrant-life.org |
