Subject: Obit: Actress Maggie Jones From: GUEST Date: 02 Dec 09 - 01:17 PM Maggie Jones, who played Coronation Street's Blanche Hunt, has died at the age of 75. The actress passed away earlier today at the Salford Royal Hospital where she had been treated since falling ill in October. A great actress and a sad passing. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Actress Maggie Jones (Dec 2009) From: Dave Roberts Date: 02 Dec 09 - 05:04 PM Very sad news. I haven't watched The Street on a regular basis for a while, but when I have I've always appreciated Maggie's performances. As an actress she was one of the old school, and the character of Blanche is in the tradition of Coronation Street battleaxes going all the way back (50 years next year) to Ena Sharples. Maggie played her to perfection and she'll be greatly missed. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Actress Maggie Jones (Dec 2009) From: GUEST Date: 02 Dec 09 - 08:23 PM The line I will remember her for was when she first met Roy Cropper. She looked him up and down and said, "He looks like something that should be crayoning in a book someplace". Rest in Peace. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Actress Maggie Jones (Dec 2009) From: Dave Roberts Date: 03 Dec 09 - 08:07 AM I understand that ITV Studios are dedicating tonight's (Thursday's) episode of the street to Maggie Jones. A nice gesture. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Actress Maggie Jones (Dec 2009) From: Smedley Date: 03 Dec 09 - 08:25 AM Another of her best lines: "If you don't take comfort in the misfortunes of others, you'll be denying yourself one of the few pleasures of getting old." A wonderful performer. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Actress Maggie Jones (Dec 2009) From: Arnie Date: 03 Dec 09 - 09:04 AM The Street won't be the same without Blanche's acid tongued one-liner put-downs. A newspaper today described her and Norris as the Street's gossip tag-team. She'll be as sadly missed as Ena was in her day - and 75 is much too young to be leaving us. |
