BS: Suddenly my DVD won't play

A plain ol' DVD movie I have played on my DVD player several times, suddenly won't play on the DVD player, but will play on the computer. The DVD player doesn't seem to have this problem with any other DVDs. Yes, we have cleaned it. It will show the FBI warning, then an error message pops up that says something like, "playback function may not be available."

Any ideas?

DVDs work on regions, for example with Europe being a different region from the USA. But DVD players can be set so as to play DVDs from different regions.

So could it be that the DVD in question comes from a different world region from the others , and the player has switched itself back from multi-region to a particular region? In which casee it should be easy enough to adjust it back.

You've cleaned what? The DVD or the player?? Cause you should clean both eh...

They are cheap - buy a new one.

I cleaned the disc. It is a DVD from my own particular region. We've never messed with the region settings. But yeah, I reckon I will probably just buy another one... even though I thought DVD technology was supposed to bypass this kind of stuff...

Might be worth cleaning the player as well - I've had this kind of problem with CDs, a player will play one but not another, and cleaning the player has done the trick.

I tried that this morning. No go. It will play on the computer, though, so all is not lost. It just seems strange that the one disc would give the machine such trouble. Oh well!
