From: katlaughing

Tomorrow, April Fool's is my weigh-in day. I have had a birthday every day for the past week, so have failed miserably. Tomorrow, I start anew. Thus this thread is a tiny bit early. Please post your goals, etc. and carry on as before. We've been at this for over a year now, can you believe it?!

Weight Watchers online is focussing on spring cleaning and decluttering. There are several articles. I've copied part of one which I though some of us might find helpful. I will post other excerpts once I've read them and if they seem of interest. I debated about whether to put this in here or the decluttering thread, but since it deals with eating, I decided on this one. Here 'tis:

We spend too much, we buy too much, and we eat too much. In the same way we surround ourselves with so much clutter, we overwhelm our bodies with caloric clutter. Almost all of us are carrying extra pounds that we just can't seem to shake.

The stuff in our homes becomes too much to deal with, but we keep shopping. Similarly, the increasing weight of our bodies becomes more than we are able to handle, but we keep indulging.

So how do you stop the cycle? You need to recognize that your choices have consequences. Every time you pull out your credit card to buy another pair of shoes, you're making a choice to add to your clutter. Every time you take a bite, you are choosing to bring that piece of food into your body and adding to your weight problem.

Keep this in mind: Every roll of fat on your body came from something you chose to put into your mouth. And every pound that slips away is the result of a decision you made. Before you take control, you need to understand emotional clutter and physical clutter (see the Decode Your Clutter box below). Most people have at least some of both, and it's no easy task to get a handle on either. We have broken the task into two phases to show how to clear that clutter from your life. It sounds easy, but it takes forethought and commitment. Here's how to get started:

Phase 1: Declutter your mind
If you acknowledge your emotional clutter (the unhealthy habits that lead you to overeat) and find ways to deal with it, the weight will fall away. But as soon as you let your emotions — be they depression, anger, or joy — make your eating decisions for you, the weight will creep on. Do some personal spring cleaning to break the habits that steer you in the wrong direction. Use this checklist to get started. Post it on your fridge or carry a copy in your purse.

1. Do a reality check: The fat didn't appear overnight and won't disappear overnight.

2. Imagine the life and body you want and hold that idea in your mind; refer to that mental image when you're swayed by unhealthy foods.

3. Organize where, how, and what you eat—it's the first step toward achieving your ideal body. Take time to plan out your meals.

4. Determine what your goal is for your body (to fit into your favorite pair of jeans or to be able to run a mile, for example). If a food doesn't help in your efforts toward achieving that goal, don't eat it.

5. Live in the present, not the past or the future. If you're eating for emotional reasons, home in on why. Anger? Despair? Fear?

6. Make mindful eating a way of life. If you don't, the fat will creep back on. Celebrate every meal; it will remind you of the great things a meal provides, beyond food.

I'm worried about weighing tomorrow; all weekend on camp food; better than average camp food, but still not what I usually eat.

On the other hand, I was running around in the woods all weekend.

Sang my heart out.

I weighed in last night and I've managed to lose another couple of pounds in what has been a hard week for lots of reasons but I am back to exercising. Walked 6 miles in total yesterday and did an hours step aerobics.

Today my friend and I walked to a beautiful park with the kids and fed the ducks. Walked about 4 miles pushing buggies but it was lovely chatting in the sunshine and watching the kids run around playing.

Got one more dress size to drop but I'm doing it gradually so I stand more chance of keeping it off.

For me, it's Yoga Challenge Month. This means I can do an incredible amount of yoga for dirt cheap....Thirty Days for Thirty Dollars. There are 3 classes offered each day and you can go to one or all three, it's up to the participant. Today I stayed for 2 classes (back to back). The first class was more stretchy and the second class was kick ass. I feel SO good after yoga!!!

That makes 2 hours of yoga for me today!

HAPPY APRIL!!

Michelle

Good for you, Michelle!

MAG, I'll bet your weigh-in will be fine! Mine was terrible...I went off the rails for my b-day and the scales show it.

Ah, well, starting over with a brand new week and month. I have done 10 minutes of stair climbing, up and down a flight and also qi gong for twenty minutes for the first time in ages. I think I've been sliding by on housework and outdoor cleanup exercise, which is okay, but I need to do more, so it's back to qi gong, free weights, and maybe the treadmill after I see the ortho guy later this month.

Happy April, indeed! On my way to a better day!

I am back from NZ on 5th April, and I think I will forego my weigh-in on 6th: I have seemingly put a "bit" of weight on, if the mirror and my less haggard face is to be believed. (I don't think they have heard of low calorie out here)!
However, the garden has been neglected for nearly a month, spring is hopefully sprung, and I have to get moving on getting things cleared so that there is room to store the kitchen units when they come out. All (hopefully) good physical stuff! I might even get the bike out!

Well Well; the scale was at 189 this morning. I had been 193 - 195 for awhile, so I must have been hovering at the edge of a plateau.

Now I'm watching salt before I have to go to the doctor's next week; amazing how it really does affect blood pressure ..

Little pickup group played for a contra dance benefit for the food bank -- poured rain; not a lot of people.

Now a book, and bed.

Put on 2and a half pounds in 2 weeks.. put it down to a craving for salt and being really too tired to do my WiiFit stuff... wonder what is causing that?

Ho hum... back on the plums again.

LtS, don't feel badly. I put on three over a week and a half. I am back on track now, though. It's amazing to me how much I can feel those extra pounds, right away. My body is getting used to not having them!:-)

We've had a good day. Went to Morgan's science class which winds up with thirty minutes of running around a gymnasium chasing balls and hoops. Came home, had lunch, then made the WW chocolate chip muffins with a slight modification. I was out of applesauce, so used peach juice and a little water. Also added a bit of high protein granola. They came out a little sticky, but very, very delicious. Morgan was quite pleased as was I.

6:15am Yoga class complete with sun salutations with long held holds in each step. Can I just say that long held planks are a bitch before 7:00am? My arms did NOT want to participate this morning....they were complaining saying that all they should be holding at that time of day is a toothbrush not all 872 pounds of ME! I told them to hush and held the pose anyway!!!

Michelle who feels really alive this morning!

I'd like to add that in addition to the yoga, I was invited to a hike & bike party tomorrow! Activity with friends, new friends at that!!! We'll be out in the woods & ending up at their homestead for a BBQ complete with their own grass fed beef and the rest of us bringing something yummy to share. I am excited to go!!!! A few years back, there would have been NO way I could have gone and participated...I wouldn't have even thought about going...and now? I can't wait to go!!! *HAPPY DANCE*

Having to dash to New Zealand on Monday... hopefully 2 weeks of running around in the sunshine and having no money for junk food will do something to get me off this plateau!

Otherwise, still stuck at 15, lots of dashing about yesterday but no actual excercise... weigh in tomorrow will be the last for 3 weeks... ho hum.

You are kidding aren't you? You ever meet my sister?? Thanks though, I'll certainly try... depends on how mobile mother is.

Mind you, the disturbed nights and prune yoghurts are having an effect... my lightweight trousers fit this week, whereas last week they were 'snug'... More a case of redistribution I think.

I was 191 at the Y yesterday; so I'm fluctuating between 189 and 191.

Better than 193 - 195.

I'll just work to keep the small yo-yos on the downward trek.

People at work tell me I'm shrinking into a shadow, which is silly.

I say 60 down, 40 to go (actually 65)and they say no way.

I say, way.

Last diabetic A1C was 6.1 -- my doc is happy but I want 5 - the point at which the percentage of complications drops signigicantly.

At my "peak" it was over 10; critical.
