Subject: BS: Sam's (Montreal smoked meat) sold... From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 12 - 04:58 PM ... to Celine Dion. She said not to worry. She's gonna spruce up the place. Hmmm... I wonder how artistic she might get with it. And, imagine takeout only, eh? I mean, who's gonna wanna eat the famous Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich listening that wailing whiney... I (kinda) remember being there at about 1AM after a bender back in the late 70s. Damn that was a good sandwich... I think. So long, Sam, and thanks. Fer ye ferriners, Montreal Smoked Meat is sold across The True Frozen North. And, it's goooood. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sam's (Montreal smoked meat) sold... From: GUEST,999 Date: 06 Mar 12 - 05:46 PM Montreal Smoked Meat is just across the street and five buildings down from Schwartz's. I ate there about four months back. It is easier to get into and imo better than Schwartz's (the quality seems to have dropped since THAT was sold about 1 1/2 years ago). However, equally good is Smoked Meat Pete's out on the West Island. Smoked Meat Pete is related to the owner of the former owner of MSM, and they use similar recipes. I do not know that the smoked meat sold across Canada is part of the same family, but Schwartz's, Dunn's, Ben's and Mtl Smoked Meat are the restaurants that made smoked meat famous in this country. As for take-out: if ya saw the parking problems in that section of Montreal, ya'd understand. The city itself is fucked up big time because it is always, and I mean always having road work done and finding a free parking spot can take 30 minutes or it will be seven blocks away or both. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sam's (Montreal smoked meat) sold... From: Beer Date: 06 Mar 12 - 06:42 PM Schwartz's is great but Smoke Meat Pete's is just as good. Plus it has live bands. 99% always Blues. No problem for parking at Pete's. Adrien |

Subject: RE: BS: Sam's (Montreal smoked meat) sold... From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 06 Mar 12 - 06:57 PM Dunn's is available in Calgary. I had it in Montreal years ago, but I seem to remember a slightly different taste. Dunno Sam's. Kickers Deli in Calgary has a full cut for $12.99, regular cut $10.99. A twist is Miss Montreal on rye- smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, lettuce, tomato. There are other places, but I don't know anything about them. Dunn's is sold at Costco if you want to make the sandwich at home. I have a pouch in the fridge, but maker unknown (from a deli in my neighborhood). |

Subject: RE: BS: Sam's (Montreal smoked meat) sold... From: GUEST,mark-s(on the road) Date: 07 Mar 12 - 07:59 AM Does anybody mail order Montreal smoked meat to the states? Does anybody know of a source in the states of a product close to Montreal smoked meat? Positive answers to either of the above would be a real public service! |
