Subject: Lyr Add: LA PALOMA (Spanish, by Sebastian Yradier) From: GUEST Date: 26 Jun 13 - 02:36 AM Translation of La Paloma lyrics to English?
I refer to the original Spanish La Paloma lyrics not the ones by Julio Iglesias. An automatic machine translation was very unsatisfactory. Any help in translating the following lyrics will be appreciated.
Refrain: Si a tu ventana llega Una Paloma,
2. El dia nos casemos ¡Valgame Dios!
3. Cuando el curita nos eche La bendicion
4. Cuando haya pasado tiempo ¡Valgame Dios! |
Subject: Lyr Add: LA PALOMA (English) From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 26 Jun 13 - 08:09 AM A true "folk song of the world", lyrics and text by Sebastián Iradier in 1863. Unfortunately, most of the estimated 1500 recordings use sentimental lyrics that have little to do with the original. A literal translation is not an easy task, since even the native speakers do not agree about the exact meaning. The language is a Basque's impression of a Cuban dialect with typical interjections. Guachinango seems to be a geographical name of various locations, derived from a fish name in Nahuatl language. Here is my own tentative go, merged from many translations I found on the net: When I left Havana (help me God!) nobody saw me leaving, other than myself and a pretty Guachinangan girl (here I go!) who went behind me (oh yes, Lord!). Chorus:The day we marry (help me God!) in the week when I must leave, it will make me laugh when from the church, united, (oh yes, Lord!) we will go to sleep (here I go!). (Chorus) When the little parson pronounces the blessing over us in the cathedral (here I go!), I will give you my little hand with much love, and the parson two squirts (yes, Lord!) (Chorus) When time passes (help me God!) after we were married, We might have (yes, Lord!) at least seven, (and what an excitement!) or fifteen Guanchinangan kids (here I go!). (Chorus) |

Subject: Lyr Add: LA PALOMA (English version) From: GUEST,Charlie Date: 21 Jun 23 - 07:48 AM LA PALOMA (English Version) The day that I left my home for the roaming sea I said "mother dear" oh pray to thy God for me And ere we sailed I went fond leave to take Of Nina who wept as if her poor heart would break Nina, if I should die over oceans foam Softly a white dove on a fair eve should come Open thy lattice, dearest for it will be My faithful soul that loving comes to thee Chorus: Oh a life on the sea! Singing joyous and free Oh where we going, no one No one so gay as we Oh a life on the sea! Singing joyous and free Oh where we are going, no one No one so gay as we And when I come home from Nina to part no more To rest with my mother dear on my native shore Adieu, to the ship where often with changing mind I've laughed and I've wept as veered the light changing wind Then come the day, the happy and blessed day Chasing all sadness and, sorrow and cares away Nina so far, all smiles will be by my side Nina so dear, will be by my own blushing bride Oh a life on the sea! Singing joyous and free Oh where we are going, no one No one so gay as we. |
