Subject: Any Charlie Poole interest From: GUEST,Gary Date: 30 Sep 02 - 12:41 PM I have lyrics and some rudimentary chords for some Charlie Poole’s songs. I realize some are already in the DT, but some are not. Anyone interested in them? Shall I post them?

Subject: RE: Any Charlie Poole interest From: wysiwyg Date: 30 Sep 02 - 12:46 PM Yes, very. You would do searches here by title and artist first, to be sure they are not already hiding in a thread, then post them here in this handy thread if they are not, unless you find a Charlie Poole songs thread and put more of them in there. If you have a substantially different version of a song, and it's posted in a thread, put the new version there. Change the subjkect line of each post to ADD: and then the title. GREAT! Do you know about Honkingduck? ~Susan |

Hi - some of the lines in this post were too wide. To make the chord spacing work, I had to reduce the type size. I suppose some of the chords are still in the wrong places, but it's the best I could do. |

Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: BALTIMORE FIRE From: wysiwyg Date: 30 Sep 02 - 04:35 PM Here's a test. Is it looking like it should, Gary? ~Susan ========================================================== BALTIMORE FIRE Traditional It was on a silver falls by a narrow That I heard the cry I ever will remember, The fire sent and cast its burning embers On another fated city of our land. CHO: Fire, Fire, I heard the cry From every breeze that passes by, All the world was one sad cry of pity Strong men in anguish prayed, Calling loud to the Heavens for aid, While the fire in ruin was laying Fair Baltimore, the beautiful city Amid-an-awful-struggle of commotion, The-wind blew-a-gale from the ocean, Brave firemen struggled with devotion, But their efforts all proved in vain. The awful news did spread across the wire Of another sad catastrophe so dire, That Baltimore City is afire, And sinking 'neath the foe's relentless hand. ====================================================== CHORDS:
SOURCE: From New Lost City Ramblers; originally recorded by Charlie Poole. |
Subject: RE: Any Charlie Poole interest From: wysiwyg Date: 30 Sep 02 - 05:36 PM I love e-mail! The above isn't right. In the meantime, if anyone wants to search up old threads and the DT, for any of the above, and leave me word where they are, that would be a huge help. ~Susan |

Doug told me he was his great uncle. I don't know why the spelling is different. I'll find out more this weekend when I'm up in Eden. Gutbucketeer's post "My Wife Went Away And Left Me" was a tune Poole learned from Kelly Harrell, which was based on Charles Vann's 1889 song, "Then my Darling I'll come Back to Thee". -Richie |
