Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 06 Dec 10 - 03:39 PM Surely it must be the Denby Dale pie of 1887, cooked for Queen Victoria's Jubilee. It was declared uneatable and buried with ceremony. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: Ed T Date: 06 Dec 10 - 03:47 PM "Denby Dale pie of 1887... buried with ceremony". Do you have the coordinates of where it was buried? It may be better with age? |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 06 Dec 10 - 05:11 PM I was buried at "Toby Spout at the outfall of Square Wood Reservoir" according to the leaflet on the "Denby and Cumberworth circular trail". |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: gnu Date: 06 Dec 10 - 05:26 PM I had a steak and kidney pie once. Tasted liked urine to me. I have had hair pie that... nevermind. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: frogprince Date: 06 Dec 10 - 10:04 PM By the way, gnu; remember, from that other thread, when you said: "I love hair pie, but it has been years since I've had a bite." For the luvagod, man, don't BITE on THAT !! |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: IvanB Date: 07 Dec 10 - 11:31 AM Back in the days of my youth, there were three couples of us who would get together to play euchre, then have refreshments after. Around Thanksgiving one of the other wives offered to bring dessert when we were meeting at our place. She made a pumpkin pie. We bit into it and tried not to make any faces, etc., until her husband remarked "This is God-awful. What'd you do to it?" Seems she thought all you had to do is pour a can of pumpkin into a pie shell and bake it. Luckily we had something around to substitute. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: GUEST,999 Date: 07 Dec 10 - 11:36 AM Raisin pie. I love raisins, I love pie crust. Together--yuck. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: GUEST,Alan Whittle Date: 07 Dec 10 - 01:55 PM I'm not sure that counts, IvanB. I think there has to be some degree of malice aforethought. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: John MacKenzie Date: 07 Dec 10 - 02:34 PM Malice! Who the fuck is malice? |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: GUEST,999 Date: 07 Dec 10 - 03:05 PM Malice in Dunderland . . . . |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: Ed T Date: 07 Dec 10 - 03:25 PM "Raisin pie. I love raisins, I love pie crust. Together--yuck" Exactly my feelings on that pie-species topic. Raisins have their rightful place, but not in a pie, not in rice pudding, nor on top of cookies. In those combinations they are "Yuck" |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: Ed T Date: 07 Dec 10 - 03:31 PM People go through significant effort to dehydrate grapes, through mechanical or sun drying processes and I applaud their zeal for the job. IMO, it is just wrong, and not too efficient, to put them through the reverse process to hydrate them again, in a pie, or other baked product. Much is lost through such foolhardy exploits. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 07 Dec 10 - 07:42 PM There are pies, and there are pies. I think it's illogical to talk about pies meant as main dishes and pies meant as desserts as if they were of the same ilk. They aren't. The only thing a chicken pot pie and an apple pie have in common is that they both have crusts. Comparing them is like comparing a chocolate cake and a loaf of pumpernickel, or a glazed donut and bagel. They have similar outward appearances, but that's all. Having said that, I don't get the point of meat pies. They're nothing but stew with a crust. Why bother? Just make the friggin' stew and spend the time you'd waste making the crust playing guitar. As for dessert pies, some may be better than others, but even the worst is still better than any cake (with the possible exception of German chocolate or carrot cake). |

Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 08 Dec 10 - 05:17 AM When I was a child up until my early teens I hated sweet mincemeat pies. The filling was far too spicy for me and any candy peel used to make me gag. Back then that was the worst pie for me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Worlds worst pie From: Mr Red Date: 08 Dec 10 - 07:03 AM and where would you weigh a pie? Somewhere over the rainbow ...................................... I'll get my coat.... |
