What??!!!

Stables???! Stables???!!!

You mean we talked all about tables for nothin?

All along you wanted to talk about "stables".

Aren't stables barns with hay and pitchforks and stalls where horses live?

I'm a city girl. We don't have no stables around here. I can't say nothin 'bout no stables.

Aint that a cryin shame. Here I was gettin all geeked up to talk about poker tables and ping pong tables and tables made out of milk crates and tables made out of wood but with glass on top and of course I could have talked about kitchen tables but that they have their own Mudcat discussion thread so I don't need to go there, But I could have talked about all the stuff people put on tables like in the middle you know as decoration and then I planned to talk about the junk drawers in end tables and then there's those long work tables and all kinds of other tables that I'm sure not just me but other people were fixin to bring up. But no Bruce you had to come and change the subject on us.

I hope you know what trauma this change of subject will cause all the table lovers of the world.

And not to mention that I even composed a cheer about tables.

I guess I could change it to stables but I'm just not feelin it, you know what I mean?

I guess I'm gonna go off somewhere and cry.

See you later.

Stables reminds me of my favourite tobacco: Old Bridge. It's a mixture of horseshit and splinters.

The following is a fable about a guy named Abel and his mother, Mabel.

Abel and Mabel had a table made from an old spool that used to hold cable.

Abel and Mabel kept their cable table in their stable.

Abel and Mabel's stable was very nice, with a lovely stained-glass window in the northern gable.

Having no horses, Abel and Mabel used their stable for raising ermine, mink and sable.

That's the end of the fable since finding more words that rhyme I am unable.

It could be a stable anything. it could be a billion year old Craton, a well practiced tight rope walker, or maybe structures at the Lagragian points....

You did a heck of a job, Bee-dubya-ell.

Really. Your Abel and Mable fable is GREAT!!!

But are you able to say what is the label that Abel and Mable use for the ermine, mink and sable that they raise in their stable that has a lovely stained-glass window in the northern gable and that also has a table made from an old spool that used to hold cable?

Inquiring minds wanna no.

Get the two bucks off the table;
I think it just confuses Mabel.

You're right Azizzi. I forgot to mention that Mabel would sew a silk label into the coats Abel made from the furs of the ermine, mink, and sable, which he skinned upon the table made from a spool that once held cable, right there in the stable under the multi-colored light from that northern gable. It was all a pretty gruesome process.

The Paris mobs, the unwashed rable
Makes it all a Tower of Babel.

Oh.

I heard that Abel sewed that labels on the coats made from the fur of the ermine, mink, and sable that Mabel skinned upon the table made from a spool that once held cable that was placed in the stable under the multi-colored light from that northern gable.

And yes,
I can imagine that it was a pretty gruesome process but the coats sell well to the Paris mobs, and the unwashed rable in this world that's become a veritable Tower of Babel.

But you usually don't find a retable in a stable where Mable sews labels in the coats made from sables that Able skins on the cable-spool table, enabled by the light from the northern gable.

You usually won't find a retable in a stable where Mable sews labels in the coats made from sables that Able skins on the cable-spool table, enabled by the light from the northern gable. But let us not forget, this is a fable. And within the context of a fable one is able to find a retable in a stable where Mable sews labels in the coats made from sables that Able skins on the cable-spool table, enabled by the light from the northern gable.

Where's the next meeting at?

[in the stable]

Who's the chair?

[It was Abel, but now it's Mabel
She's ready and she's able.
and that's no fable.]

or maybe it is.

There once was a women called Maybell,
who had a most wonderful table.
She delighted to dabble
With the hoons and the rabble
And started her own culinary cabel.

She invited the masses to dinner,
And served Maybell's syrup – a winner
The ragged and torn
Ate pancakes til dawn
While Maybell got thinner and thinner,

Now remember as you read this small fable
That whatever you have at your table
It ain't worth a hoot
If you don't share your fruit
With the cabel at Maybell's old table.

Well, okay, I guess that in a fable you can have a retable in a stable. Usually a retable is a screen behind the altar in a church; I never heard of it before either, but it was the only word left in my rhymning dictionary that you hadn't already used up.

I just checked. It's Betty Davis who had the eyes.

Bette Davis Eyes

Her hair is Harlow gold, her lips sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold, she's got Better Davis eyes

She'll turn the music on you, you won't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow, she got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you, she'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo's standoff sighs, she's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll let you take her home, it works her appetite
She'll lay you on the throne, she got Bette Davis eyes

She'll take a tumble on you, roll you like you were dice
Until you come out blue, she's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll expose you, when she snows you
Hope you're pleased with the crumbs she throws you
She's ferocious and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy, she's got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you, she'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy, she's got Bette Davis eyes...

Of course, this doesn't have anything to do with "stable" or "table" or grable or Mabel or any other able bodied rhyming word...But it is a song and it's sung by folks and this is a folk music website {okay a blues/folk music website though there's not much blues to be found most times} and this is a thread drift thread and this certainly counts as thread drift so at least I got the Betty/eyes association right.

Okay okay I goofed.

I'm may be down but I'm not out.

I shall return.

thanks Azizi - i think it was her legs they were on about.

my daughter is still keeping her eye on an ad for my table + 6 chairs in ebay - its a big family table and I need to sell it (tribe has moved on)- not only do I need the space for a smaller table, but I need the money. This table is a BIG thing for me right now. my daughter (the one in Austria) has bought me a return ticket to visit her in 2 weeks. I'll be in souther Austria for a month, + am hoping to sell the table so I can get to London for a couple of days to see Hilda Hish's show, and see some catters. I will buy a bottle of Maybell's syrup to celebrate if it sells!

fingers crossed

freda

I suppose we should be grateful this thread wasn't entitled "Well, it's really about chairs . . . .", what with there being about a zillion times more words that rhyme with "chair" than "table". It would take us months to share a fair number of them and would invariably cause some of us to tear their hair in despair.

The antelope family too has a sable
It will bound away or it will stand and fight
Depending on its mood but trust me, the label
Of 'fierce' fits it any time of day or night.

Its horns are tall and they are ringed and ridged
Its maned coat is glossy and black and handsome
Bucks pursue the does- if they be not frigid.
Packaged energy, Bucks gallop fast and prance some.

Sheeesh.

Poopsie's table doesn't look like a table to me--it looks like an easel.
I sometimes wish I could make interesting drawings with a 'puter keyboard--but it never looks like I intend it to.
Course, I have the same trouble with using pencils, pens, crayons, & such. I have to admit, crayons would be my medium of choice were I to attempt to be an Art artiste. The big 64 pack!

Kaleea will now attempt to do an interpretive dance with her 'puter keyboard:
