Subject: RE: Severn in hospital 26 Dec 2011 From: freda underhill Date: 10 Jan 12 - 06:08 AM Hi Severn, how's it going? Summer's here in Sydney, and a kookaburra has been singing in the evening. Tonight I sat in the back yard with a friend, watching the garden, the beautiful sky and .. being bitten by mozzies. never mind, good thoughts are coming your way fred |
Subject: RE: Severn in hospital 26 Dec 2011 From: Severn Date: 10 Jan 12 - 09:41 AM Thanks for all the good words and thoughts. They have cheered and made me feel worthwhile at a time when I've needed to. I've done this drill before and know better this time how to handle it. Of course, it wasn't around the heart last time, but I have a strong heart that's been through a lot in its time and can handle anything life wants to throw at it. I've been through my first bad chemo day (They'll increase as time goes along) and have made it to two open mics and a swimming pool walk. I have made it to errands and have been paying bills, cleaning up and doing all the other things that pile up when one is taken off the map for 11 days, and I still have lots of people to celebrate Christmas with. Somehow, I missed Christmas Eve, Christmas, my birthday, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day at a time in life when I don't have a Postal Service job to get in the way any more. I'll start up a new Recovery ward thread soon, so that those of us with medical complaints can both use it as a bulletin board for truthful accounts that now we'll have to tell a greatly reduced number of times and as a creative writing forum continuing our tales of our long-running hospital staff of good and bad docs, and whatever new ones we create. We can put both news and fun on the same thread with laughs and shared information, once again, to help with our cures ant our friend's understanding. |

But come on! it tells when we are getting really old that we all turn to talking about our physical complaints together. My bones hurt more than your bones. I hate the idea of aging but of course we have to take what is coming with that process.I like to think, we are getting payback for a misspent youth.Go enjoy the missed bits all the best to you. Subject: RE: Severn in hospital 26 Dec 2011 From: gnu Date: 11 Jan 12 - 09:03 PM 1. Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent. 2. A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, "I'll serve you, but don't start anything." 3. Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted. 4. A dyslexic man walked into a bra. 5. A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm, and says: "A beer please, and one for the road." 6. Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: "Does this taste funny to you?" 7. "Doc, I can't stop singing The Green, Green Grass of Home." "That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome." "Is it common?" "Well, It's Not Unusual." 8. Two cows are standing next to each other in a field. Daisy says to Dolly, "I was artificially inseminated this morning." "I don't believe you," says Dolly. "It's true; no bull!" exclaims Daisy. 9. An invisible man marries an invisible woman. The kids were nothing to look at either. 10. Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before. 11. I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day, but I couldn't find any. 12. A duck walks into a drug store and asks the druggist for a tube of chapstick. The druggist asks "will that be cash?" The duck says "No, just put it on my Bill" ! 13. I went to a seafood disco last week...And pulled a mussel. 14. What do you call a fish with no eyes? A fsh. 15. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says, "Dam!" 16. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Not surprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too. 17. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel, and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office, and asked them to disperse. "But why," they asked, as they moved off. "Because," he said. "I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer." 18. A woman has twins, and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt , and is named 'Ahmal.' The other goes to a family in Spain ; they name him 'Juan.' Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal." 19. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him (oh, man, this is so bad, it's good)...A super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis. 20. A dwarf, who was a mystic, escaped from jail. The call went out that there was a small medium at large. 21. And finally, there was the person who sent twenty different puns to his friends, with the hope that at least ten of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did. Yeah, it was an email. I forwarded it to Sev but I thought I'd post it here for filler. |

Subject: RE: Severn in hospital 26 Dec 2011 From: gnu Date: 13 Jan 12 - 03:55 PM Hey... I just copied and pasted so's I could freeresh the thread. And, that's because I think as much of Sev as the rest a youse do. Maybe more than some but I can't see how that is possible. A true gentleman and generous to a fault. One more Sev would make this (my) world a better place. Alas, there is only ONE Sev and he had damn well get well sonner than later. No pressure mind you, Sev. Take it one step at a time... Subject: RE: Severn in hospital 26 Dec 2011 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Jan 12 - 01:11 AM We've been chatting on facebook. When he goes in for treatments they last for three days, so unless he stays at the hospital he has to commute back and forth. Sounds like he's looking forward to the Mudcat Recovery Ward - someone head over and air the sheets and blankets, will you? He has a Kindle Fire, so maybe he can get a WiFi connection and keep up with us during those long IV periods. SRS |

Subject: RE: Severn in hospital 26 Dec 2011 From: freda underhill Date: 15 Jan 12 - 01:47 AM I had a chat to Severn midday today (last night, his time). as usual, he's remarkably chirpy and busy for a man with small cell cancer. Talking to Sev, you'd think nothing was wrong, he's remarkably positive, and still going out to sessions etc. The chemo's wiping him out a bit here and there - some very kind friends have made meals for him, which has been a great help. He seems to be getting around and managing things pretty well, tho he's still waiting for further tests (after the next round of chemo) to better understand what's happening. |

Subject: RE: Severn in hospital 26 Dec 2011 From: GUEST,999 Date: 16 Jan 12 - 09:35 AM In the olden days of knights and serfs, a notorious punster had been making remarks about the king. The punster was dragged before the king and told that it would have to stop or he would be hanged by the neck until dead. The punster said it would stop because "No noose is good noose." There endeth the tale. |
