Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 26 Aug 09 - 08:57 AM Brian and Marian( No Worries) are playing the Good Intent the Tuesday night before Knockholt. I do not want to miss that. I hope they come on first because there is another lineup the same evening but that means I wont be able to get home if I stay to see both. One night in a BnB is not worth it and I also want to be at home because Woodsie said Kay would take us to Knockholt which is very kind and makes life so much easier. I like to be there by 11oclock latest so we can get set up and then set off to Pub. Richard do you know what time roughly you will be getting to the field Wednesday? I will have all the meats early Tuesday and stick them in my freezer, I will buy from my mate who delivers frozen but they will need your cool box come Wednesday evening . The routine of going down the pub on the wednesday is not a problem for it closes for some reason at 3oclock so we be back on the field by 4 considering picking Blackberries on the way back up. Lady Raffles I will take a bucket with me every time I go to the Tally Ho and pick Blackberries on the way down and on the wobbly wobbled way back up again. The amount of times me and Woodsie walk down that lane to the pub you can rest assured the bucket will be full to over flowing by Thursday night. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Lady Raffles Date: 26 Aug 09 - 09:40 AM Great! but make sure you don't spill them all on the wobbly wobbled way back. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 27 Aug 09 - 02:49 PM If the weather turns out to be as bad as predicted, I am gonna be hurtin. Takes weeks to recover from exposure to damp cold. Cripples me for days. Somebody do sumfin about the weather please? Re food, I will bring prepped winter veggies for roast as promised. May leave off the beef as I don't want to spend all day Saturday (my only full day there) messing with food. Banana loaf - yes Devilled eggs - yes Waldorf Salad - prolly not. Richard has set my mouth watering for sweet potatoes with cinnamon. But I won't go there. If I am lucky, very lucky, I may be bringing a Morgan Monroe MA1 mandolin. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST Date: 27 Aug 09 - 03:19 PM MORGAN MONROE MA1 MANDOLIN.That sounds good. My mandolins broken at the nut and despite a attempt to fix it for Knockholt,Im sorry to say today it all went funny and the top A string broke and I couldnt tune it. Useless again. Its exspensive to have it repaired professionally time and time again. Im progressing with it but again these breakages are set backs. I am seriously thinking of packing it in and thriowing it on the fire at Knockholt and that will be the end of it. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 29 Aug 09 - 07:01 AM "You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows" Crow,s sister your last post has gone completely over my head. Have I posted something on a thread that has caused you upset or anger? If so please explain ? or PM me. Now I might upset folk. I do not think there should be any banner strung on the Knockholt field gate apart from the Folkmob Banner. keep the folk against fascist banners for the big fests like Sidmouth etc. In all the years I have been going to knockholt I have never spoke politics to anyone and I have never heard it mentioned. also I have never witnessed any individual/s spouting there mouths off regarding there own political opinions. With such a banner all this could change and it could ruin a great quiet little fest. Stick to music and song. Kind regards to all Pierre. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: The Barden of England Date: 29 Aug 09 - 09:42 AM Peter - Folk against Fascism is what is says it is. It is about a certain point of view which is taken by some people regarding people of colour, people's sexuality or their religion. There are bigots out there who are trying to use folk music to further their fascist agenda, so in that sense it is not political. I will be harping on about this at Knockholt, and if it's not wanted, then I won't come - plain and simple. I'm being attacked by these very people elsewhere, and will NOT shut up, nor will I be forced to. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Royston Date: 29 Aug 09 - 10:33 AM I agree with Pete, about Knockholt. It's too small, it doesn't need politics. I've heard people make the most stupid racist comments there before on odd occasions and I have had to take a view about how to respond, as you do in life. Generally I just stay away from the racists and they stay away from me. Most folk at Knockholt are decent and give or take the odd lairy so and so, everyone manages to get along well. So nobody should use a little non-commercial gathering of old folkies as a political soapbox. NO POLITICS IN PUBLIC. I intend to follow that rule, I expect others to do likewise whether they be people with whom I agree or with whom I do not agree. Anyone not happy with that had better stay away because I'm pretty sure this is the prevaling view and that the consensus will be against anyone can't deal with that. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 29 Aug 09 - 12:24 PM Pierre, upset me? Noooo! Just a throwaway bit of nonsense. I was drinking Gin last night and posting silly stuff all over the board. I meant at least you (unlike me) only post daft drunken posts on Knockers threads, where they are safely contained amongst friends :-) |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 29 Aug 09 - 12:50 PM I'd be inclined to leave it up to the discretion of individual organisers as to what they feel is appropriate for the individual sessions or festivals they run (I'm certain Richard will do his own bit, in the session he runs.) As soon as people feel they are being pressured to 'sign up' there will be automatic reaction against that pressure, and that won't be positive for the cause in any way. Better to tread gently with contentious issues I think, in order to prevent rejection of the whole issue. This doesn't prevent individuals 'flying their own flags' so to speak. Or indeed arranging an informal discussion amongst those already on board, and possible interested others. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 29 Aug 09 - 01:12 PM I don't run any sessions. But I think that every decent organiser of any session ought roundly to reject fascism, and to say so. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: fisheye Date: 29 Aug 09 - 01:52 PM Ladies and Gentlemen, please....Knockholt Folk Sessions leaves the adulterated world at the gate. We have four or five days of enjoyable folk music, singing, drinking and by the sound of this forum eating also. So please let us all keep it that way, and not ruin a good thing. fisheye |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 29 Aug 09 - 03:49 PM I feel quite exhausted about this issue. Most people I have met at Knockholt over the years are time honored to me. for umpteen reasons Playing singing and more. I have very strong feelings about this issue so PM me if you have time to hear them. Im not debating it openly any more .At present Im still coming to Knockholt. Polish Bird is back from Poland and will be meeting me Saturday night. She told me today on the phone she "cant wait to see you folk |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: The Barden of England Date: 29 Aug 09 - 06:15 PM OK, then I won't be there. I sure as hell don't want to feel resticted, nor spoil the good time that I know you'll have. I feel that strongly about this, and apologise to you all beforehand. I'll hand the Saffron to Richard Bridge John Barden |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 29 Aug 09 - 06:32 PM John. Im 100% behind but lets do it proper. Knockholt is to small for this, |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 29 Aug 09 - 06:44 PM Got a open earhole PM Me or I,lll see you at Knockers? |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: GUEST,folkmob Date: 30 Aug 09 - 03:02 AM every decent organiser of any session ought roundly to reject fascism, and to say so The following is extracted from Folkmob constitution: 9. DIVERSITY The club values the diversity among its committee, it's members and any guests that attend. Anybody performing material of a racist nature, or found to be harassing other club members, will be asked to leave and will have their membership revoked. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: VirginiaTam Date: 30 Aug 09 - 06:11 AM I must say that, I think no event is too small to make a stand against fascism. If I feel pressed to to hold my peace in the face of the enemy, I am not going to be comfortable there. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: TheSilentOne Date: 30 Aug 09 - 06:11 AM I feel awkward speaking on this because VT and I are Knockholt newbies, but I am 100% with John. Surely fighting fascism should _start_ on the smallest local scale of friends and acquaintances? I am uncomfortable at the idea that Folk Against Fascism could be muzzled at the event. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: The Barden of England Date: 30 Aug 09 - 07:58 AM Right - I really don't want people to pull out of this wonderful event, nor spoil it for the rest of you, so I'm always ready for a compromise. I understand the reasons why a banner at the gate may not be such a good idea, so what I'd like to do is have an 'FaF' banner (which may not be that big) on my caravan, on my guitar case, on my seat, and if I can acquire one, on a T shirt. That would satisfy my need to show my solidarity with this just cause, and hopefully please the organisers. I honestly don't want to be a 'party pooper.' John Barden |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 30 Aug 09 - 08:34 AM Good man John. Perhaps those of us who are of a like mind, might possibly get together round the FaF caravan (with JB's indulgence?) in the afternoon sometime, for a wee friendly discuss and sing. |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: fisheye Date: 30 Aug 09 - 09:20 AM Mr.Bardon ,'Sir' we old knockie's request your company at our festival this September 2009. if you wish to display your banners on your person and property that is your freedom of choice. your presence however there will be by public demand. fisheye |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Aug 09 - 09:32 AM I think that's "public request" |
Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: melodeonboy Date: 30 Aug 09 - 09:40 AM Knowing just about every contributor to this thread as I do, I find it sad that there has to be such animosity. For what it's worth, Knockholt for me is a celebration of good company, good music and good food (all right, we'll forget Dave's sausages!). It's not primarily a political event. It would detract from the wonderful Knockholt spirit if it were. However, the message of "no politics in public" concerns me. This is the kind of thing I was told repeatedly during the time I lived in Iraq under the benign (!) leadership of Saddam Hussein. I really don't think we want that here. We have (compared to most countries) a high level of freedom of expression in Britain. Let's keep it that way, and keep political debate and expression alive. |

Subject: RE: Knockholt Forever Autumn From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 30 Aug 09 - 11:30 AM Mr Bridge your forecasting is driving me Nuts. My knockholt bag has been packed now for a fortnight and I find myself taking out the cut downs and replacing them with pack a macs. and next day vice versa. Im completely confused. Now dont forget we must do a head count of the Giant florescent breasted women of Knockholt? you rarely see them but they have shoed feet and you can see there heads above the hedge. There a rare sight. Kind regards to all Pierre. Im pissed I went to The Tudor Barn today to see Fokmob play at a event in the park. I then had the company of Essex Girl Keith Ferris and wife, and good old DDAY Veteran Jim Radford who Im very Pleased to announce is coming to this years September Foreever Autumn event.. |
