There is a splendid song on one of my Ramskyte tapes about a bloke who gives a girl a ride in his cart, and teh rocking motion leads onwards. The rhythm gies it a really lascivious feel. I must learn it for the occasion!

Pete, you don't want to go on for 15 minutes at the pace of the John Barden "Ride On". Heart attack city!

both myself and White haired Brian the chap with the mobility Chariot and I believe John was there to the chap with the dog were having a drink down the Tally Ho when a girl on a horse
came clip clopping down the main road towards the Tally Ho.

Anyway for some reason when the horse got level with our picnic table by the doors of the pub it got quite spooked and started backing off . The young girl in the saddle clearly could could have kicked that horse to her heart was content there was no way that horse was gonna walk on by that pub..

well the situation was worsening for the poor girl in the saddle fore suddenly the creature shot in to full reverse and headed straight for our table back end first..
We all grabbed our beers. but remained seated.

Well this horse backed straight into our picnic table and knocked the umbrella over.
all the time the girl was kicking and trying to pull its head round.
I stood up and said to the Girl clutching me beer. Do you want me to take the lead love.

Whereby Brian piped up. 'Take the lead what you gonna do Pete dance with it.
I said Ignore him do you want me to take the lead and walk him on. She said yes Please.
Whereby the beast trod onme bloody foot with all its dancing about..,
so i took the reins just under the bit and said come on mate walk on.
Well the horse was still dancing about but I managed to get him back on the road whereby
he seemed to calm. He was quite Spooked. Ever that or he wanted a pint anyway.

the girl asked if I would walk him a bit further down the lane and said then she should be alright to go on alone.
Still clutching me pint I walked with horse and all down to the next bend in the road and let them go there merry way.

Unknown to me quite a gathering had assembled at the windows in the Tally Ho and watched all this take place and when I got back to the pub everyone said well done and one chap even brought me a pint.

Well when all had returned to normal and people had gone back to there seats and the
Parlava was all over I went into the Tally ho to buy a round and the Bar maid said to me.

'I saw all that earlier, your quite good with horses.I said not that good love he trod on me bloody foot. She said I have a Horse in the next field up the lower lane I ride past all you lot camping up the top field. She said do you ride I said I used to but I have not for years.
She said you can have ago on mine.

I dont believe she ment it but it was a nice offer and I have not forgotten it.

And thats the story of the bar maids horse.

Hi Reedpuffer
There are no bands booked we comprise of a mixture of musicians of various diferent talents who assemble at this site twice a year. Numbers increase has the days go by.
We start on the Wednesdayand finish on the Sunday the dates for the next event are listed on the above threads. We do charge for camping. See site listed below.

In the evening we sit around a bonfire and sing songs. Basically when the stick comes to you can can sing or simply pass it on to the next person.
There is a field. toilets. and a Pub and thats it.Its located on one of the highest spots in glorious Kentish country side better known has the Garden of England.
The main body of folk that attend come from the Eltham Folk Mob Folk Club in Eltham south east London. Go to folkmob.com if you are interested in joining us.
There are other folk from other clubs and Morris men/women from the medway towns of North Kent.Its a great four day event if you dont mind roughing it putting up with gale force winds and driving rain.
And like Beer? when the weather is fine at Knockholt it is glorious which for much of the 7 years and 14 times I have attended it has been. In day time I spend much time cooking meals thast are a challenge for the campsite site inbetween going down the local pub called The Tally Ho.

Mr.Bardon according to the stated facts and figures, this Swine Flu runs for seven days....allowing for an extra seven days for being B....y awkward. That will give you sufficient time to re-cooperate,anticipate,motivate and in general get yourself ready for Knockholt.

I have been at the long range wevva on Met-check.

Thursday predicted dry
Friday predicted very minor rain in the afternoon
Saturday afternoon, cedars of Lebanon and animals two by two. Predicted 6.9mm of rain that afternoon.

However, there is obviously something wrong with the Met-check program, as on all three days it is predicting wind of over 145 and under 150 MPH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have put the blue plastic pipe in the wardo. Can anyone be CERTAIN what the size of the blue plastic pipe in the next field is, and I could then buy jointing components - and have we got permission to fix, and when, and wil lthe farmer turn off pipe pressure to facilitate?

This thread died and then was revived. so issues have been forgotten. (Pipe in field)
The rain in Spain stays manly on the plain.
The rain in Knockholt stayed mainly on me. last September.
My Polish friend has buggered off with some Iranian ,So she wont be coming this September. well not with me anyway.

The issue of the pipe Richard,
Sue and Mikc Forde are on Holiday. at moment
I,ll get back to you after this Wednesday when the club meets again .I,ll speak to them..
we cant do nothing without farmers ok . Pipe or no pipe . fixings or no fixings.

I have grown me own peppers for all this cooking Par-lava. Finger peppers take out the seeds or your bum will go BANG,. tried and tested.
and my Herb gardens bursting. I have been working with Sage this week,
'It goes very. very well with Pork. a dodgy dish for a campsite and no fridge..
I have made me cooker out of three old Calendars and 4 Woks. fired on coal.

Coco Cola and flour makes a great B,A,Q, Sauce. nothing else to add but the Chicken. herb and spice to taste? Flour t= thickness of sauce.

Also, the mandolin I purchased on ebay has been returned as it had a substantial crack in the sound board, so I am in the market again, as it were.

There is a lovely Freshwater (with case) on EBAY reserve of £250. Very tempting, but I know it will go for much more than that. I am watching with interest.

Air pollution alert. Lower Stoke is about to be enveloped in a cloud of biting, choking gas as I prepare harissa paste. It will keep fine in the fridge until Knockers. Tasting experiences will follow.

The Harissa paste is somehow less full, less complex, than the second of teh summerones.

I am tepmpted to return it to the blender with more garlic, more honey (actually the honey I used last time was MUCH more expensive), a bit more tomato puree, more carraway kernels, and maybe some ground coriander and a bit more black jeera.

Well I thought it was too hot to support life too, and there wasn't much left to grow a carpet.   I thought he would cry when I told him "NO! You cannot scrape the mold off." It may be because it was in the cool box at not an optimum temperature before getting home to fridge.

I asked Sue about the work party last night at Folkmob in regards to the repair to the water pipe. I have no idea of the pipe diameter Id say a inch and a half but Im only guessing and thats nothing to go on .

The farmer whose permission we need to go ahead is .. unavailable. So I suggest you wait for Micks response to the matter before you order anything.

I leave the issue now in Micks hands and if my help with the repair is required then I will be there to help.

Now. Regards cooking.

There are three relevant pipe sizes. I will go onto Screwfix to check.

The harissa is re-adjusted and is more, but not completely, like the second batch from last year.

I will chase Blossom about the wine for the marinades.

Doesn't pavlova demand meringue? If so that demands stable and controlled low heat for 24 hours (the way my mother used to do it, in the airing cupboard) and that is not going to be practical at Knockers. It also does nothing for me and I am NOT going to be traditional English and make fruit crumble and custard or spotted dick and custard (much as I love them). The custard HAS to be returned to the saucepan for double-thickening. Birds, not the poncy stuff.

PS. has anyone mastered a decent Waldorf salad? I love a good Nicoise, but it has to be eaten on the grass in hot sunshine (with a Rose d'Anjou or a gin and sin, and that weather does NOT look like Saturday.

Oscar Tschirky mastered a decent Waldorf Salad.
A Waldolf salad consists of.
Julienned apple,s(What every on earth they might be.
Celery(Yuk)
Chopped Walnuts.
Raisans
Grapes,
Whipping cream thats been whipped(Im not bringing "THAT" to Knockholt)
mixed Green Salad leafs
and Marronaise.

The salad was invented at the Waldof hotel New York.
The recipe is copy right and credited to a certain Oscar Tschirky.
How can one copy write a Bloody Salad.

Used to do Waldorf with pecans not walnuts (no grapes). Went off it.

Now I like

Galax apple chunks (small with peel on)
finely chopped celery
shredded mature cheddar
mayo
Wonderful on a fresh soft floured bap or eaten with leaves.

Maybe I will make deviled eggs

Hard-boiled eggs, sliced in half the long way
scoop out yolk, mash and mix with
mayonnaise, mustard, dill pickle relish (American kind)
spoon (or pipe if you want them to look pretty) mixture into halved eggs whites
sprinkle with paprika


The trouble is carrying them. Need to make a several layered egg carton like container.

Kind of fancying fresh banana bread (also made with pecans) too. So may bring a couple of loaves to share. Lovely slices warmed, melting butter and cup of coffee for breakfast.

Mick phoned the farmer last night and left a message, so far no reply, he is very hard to get hold of on the phone I usually have to write enclosing a SAE to make contact (with the farmer not Mick), If we haven't spoken to him by the weekend we will try and get over there and track him down.

Speaking of banana bread, I made a lovely desert the other week - insert four chunks of milk chocolate into a banana, smear with butter then roll in brown sugar, wrap in buttered silver foil and bake in oven (or placed around edge of camp fire might work) finish off with squirty cream.
