Aaaaaaaaaaaah! I just got back from Santa's House here at the North Pole. This could be serious. Santa has gone on vacation for the month of November! Sitting in his big beautiful chair is a hand written sign saying, "he'd see us all in December". Now I understand that he/she works hard but is Novemeber the month to be taking a vacation when we have all sent in our want list...

Yorkshire has a vile climate, I agree, but the ice cap retreated some centuries ago -- forcing me to relocate to an area with less congenial neighbours. The Canadian Forces station on Ellesmere Island has an antenna farm that makes an excellent slalom run for an airborne sleigh, but apart from that it's a long way to the pub.

Aha, so you noticed my deliberate clue (phew, almost slipped up there), will need to start back-pedalling on the clue front or you'll guess me before your parcel is properly packed!

Must admit I had been wondering about the Elves, they've not been themselves since that crate of Port went missing a couple of nights ago - they've been dressing up in cocktail frocks and accessories (fur & feathers) to match. Really quite a worry so close to X-Day as you can imagine. Maybe I should rethink the chocolate sharing, there must be some other way to get them all working propery again - we do have a deadline to meet.

ps. the reindeer are looking forward to their visit & were wondering if you ever happen to have any toffee apples around your person....

Dear Santa & Santa's Partner: Many thanks for the various hints in your last post, am adding them to the growing jig-saw puzzle which as usual will end up with at least one vital piece missing. But I'm guessing that you've been a Santa before and understand the long tortuous route involved in keeping your Santee confused right up until the last. Very much like our 'Morse' or 'Taggart' programs on TV in the UK.

I'm hoping that things aren't a real problem for you just now, your message of 'nothing to worry about' is like saying to someone 'don't look just now'. But maybe you're just real busy at whatever work it is that you're occupied in.

Meanwhile I'm being as good as a person can be when there's chocolate in the fridge & drinks in the cupboard ready for you on Christmas Eve. Have ordered a large tub of Oats to be warmed for your Reindeer, and a few other tasty treats too of course!

Dear Guru: your Santa is off for a week visiting Santa's Mom. It was a long trip, since the raindeer are resting up for their big night next month, and the broom is in the shop for maintenence. Santa flew east about 1300 miles from here, but won't get as far as the ocean this time. Addition hints is it? Let me give it a go....Santa has never spent much time on Mudcat before, although is certainly the musician in the family, and had to have lessons on logging in and out...Santa has excellent craft skills, and will be making beaded stuff for at least 2 Secret Santees...any postal cards received will represent either the place they depict or the place from whence they were mailed, but not both (at least not all the time)...anything I say here may or may not be the truth...I haven't seen you in MudChat lately.

Well, I've just spent a vacant hour going through this thead & the Hints thread too. I crossed & double-crossed, made a list, tore it up, made another list & got out the tippex. Repaired the first list with sellotape (that's durex to any Ozzies), used a pink high-lighter pen & my conclusions are like this:

There are at least 76 Catters playing although some seem to be strangely silent & perhaps not have as many Reindeer or hidden treasures as we first thought. There are at least 10 possible hopefuls or Red Herrings.

Have observed that there is a Locator Page in order to see at a glace where Catters Live including their postcodes/zips (or flies to us Yookers). However, this list seems to be sadly lacking & could be quite out of date taking into account intercontinental Catter Marriages etc.

My next step on the search for truth is to cross-check the first (repaired or durexed) list against the list of Catters who have been brave enough to post Profiles.

At this point I may be scheduling in a trip around the local charity shops to purchase a relatively recent Atlas of the World having noted that Multimap does not give enough overall information about various continents (or incontinents)

This plan may or may not be of assistance in tracking down my elusive Santa (1,500 miles East of normal location apparently), but it is likely to prove how few Catters involved in playing have actually given enough information within their profiles. (Leadfingers would be so pleased if Catters could get them up to date, though I think Pene Azul may be run ragged if this little scheme of mine works......)

Now on my second bottle of Port on a Sunday Morning when there's chores to be done (see what you guys made me do?) Woe is me......

Port? Good port or that cheap screw-top muck? My honesty is above reproach, but there are exceptions to every rule. Now, methinks you protestith too much; you say its Sunday morning there, yet you posted four minutes after noon Mudcat time. That is officially defined as "sun over the yardarm," so I'd think it was allright.

I might be able to add some carmel apples to the assortment if you're sure they've all had adequate dental care. Christmas delivery season would be a bad time for emergency tooth repair... Maybe I should package them to take home???

The local deer have some favorite nibbles in the garden. I'll put together a salad of garden leftover healthy treats as well. Rosehips are a big favorite as well as the tansy. My own Santee is getting a few green bits from the garden.

2. I'm landlocked, and although there is a body of water of considerable size fairly close by it would be quite a journey to reach the ocean. But it could be done.
3. The Ocean mentioned in number 2 is either the Atlantic or the Pacific or both. You can ignore all the others, especially the Arctic.
4. Beer is brewed here.
5. I am either male or female, but not both or neither.
6. I am not located either north or south of 60, although I have lived there.

Dear Secret Santa,

I have been a very good girl this year, well, mostly!

I love sweets and would adore a regional specialty! I love reading, although I prefer to read stuff that gets me away from real life and has happy endings, I guess I never grew out of fairy stories! I go to the cinema occasionally, often to avoid gardening - actually I like nice gardens, but I never seem to have time to work in my own. I tend to like bouncy music that cheers me up when I hear it or lovely relaxing music to make me purr.

I do celebrate Christmas, I'm like a big kid with it. I decorate the house to within an inch of it's life in gold, red and green as early in December as I can get away with it, and I definitely have a tree. This year will be extra special as Cllr & I are going to my family for the day itself so we get to play with our nieces who are 2 and 5 - it's so nice to be with others who are certain that Santa really exists!

I've also been a good girl and filled in what seemed to be the standard sheet on BS: Secret Santa Hints 2004. Hope this helps.

I've been gathering gifties like a squirrel gathers acorns. Now they're piled up in the hall. (Well, "pile" might be a bit exaggerated, but it's a well-shaped little mound.) Now I need to make the wrapping paper (well, you see, I chew up cellulose-producing fibre and . . . nononono . . . makes me sound like a North American aquatic mammal who builds dams or a stingy type wasp).

In between all this activity, I will try to find a suitable shipping container so that the package can slide down the chimney, I mean, land in your postal recepticle before the bikinis are on the shop display manniquins. (In other words, well in time for the mid-winter holiday season.) I'd hate to make you wait until Robert Burns' Birthday or any other holiday after the end of December.
