On BBC Radio 4 at 11.30 am on May 1st there is a programme on Richard Hearne, otherwise known as Mr Pastry.
I wrote a song for him on his retirement which will be featured in the prog, as will a short chat with me about him.
The reason I am posting this is to ask that if you enjoy this prog, please phone the Beeb on 08700 100 222 and say so, as it's getting harder and harder for producers to sell progs like this to the radio due to the ever increasing pressure to dumb down.
And no, I don't personally know the producer. He found my song by serendipity and I've just chatted with him on E mail about the problems faced by producers today.

I'l have a listen Harvey. He was part of my childhood , and lived not far from me in Kent. He also had a child with learning problems like me, and did a lot of charitable work. If anybody wants to know more about him there's a fine site here :-

When you sang at Colchester a few months ago (and just after the thread here on Mudcat about Mr.Pastry and this song)you mentioned the possibility of the radio programme - so glad to hear that it has come to fruition, Harvey. I'll definitely be listening.

Cheers,
- jeanie

The house that he lived in (the one near you, John) had been derelict for some time before he bought it and did it up. The previous occupants were two farm labouring families (it was divided in two at that time), one of which was my grandfather's family. My mother was born in that very house.

After starting the other Mr Pastry thread recently I'm looking forward to hearing the song on the Radio for the second time in nearly thirty years. Someone sent me the tape it was on (thanks again) so I'll be able to sing along this time..

Chris

Your point?

It was called 'The Simple Pieman'. Just click on the Radio 4 tag on 'listen Again' and it's there..

Or paste this to your browser
