Subject: Lyr Add: CHRISTIAN ISLAND (Gordon Lightfoot) From: Stewie Date: 14 May 07 - 02:16 AM I have transcribed a number of songs for a presentation titled 'Of Rivers, Boats and the Sea' for the 37th Top Half Folk Festival next month. I might as well post those that are not in the DT or forum already. Here is the first. CHRISTIAN ISLAND (Gordon Lightfoot) I'm sailin' down the summer wind I've got whiskers on my chin And I like the mood I'm in As I while away the time of day In the lee of Christian Island Tall and strong, she dips and reels I call her Silver Heels And she tells me how she feels She's a good old boat and she'll stay afloat Through the toughest gale and keep smilin' But for one more day, she would like to stay In the lee of Christian Island I'm sailin' down the summer day Where the fish and seagulls play I put my troubles all away And when the gale comes up Ill fill my cup With the whiskey of the highlands She's a good old ship and she'll make the trip From the lee of Christian Island Tall and strong, she slips along I sing for her a song And she leans into the wind She's a good old boat and she'll stay afloat Through the toughest gale and keep smilin' When the summer ends we will rest again In the lee of Christian Island Source: Gordon Lightfoot 'Don Quixote' Warner Archives CD 9 45687-2 --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Christian Island From: SouthernCelt Date: 14 May 07 - 07:44 PM Good, somewhat typical, Lightfoot song. The only problem I ever have when I listen to it is that it makes me want to get lazy and go do pretty much nothing except watch the world go by ;-). I don't sail so I have to find some other non-activity to give me the same feeling "as I while away the time of day..." SC |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Christian Island From: Inukshuk Date: 15 May 07 - 06:48 AM How timely! I just got back from a week's vacation on Georgian Bay. When the weather was clear we could just make out Christian Island. Got me thinking about its history and Lightfoot's song. |
