Subject: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: Bugsy Date: 17 Jun 07 - 09:47 PM I've just bought a pack of White Inkjet Printable CDRs. There are no printing instructions with them. (Now someone will post "you put them int the printer and print on them") I thought that the recordable side of the disc would have some type of removable coating on it but it hasn't. My worry is, won't the recording side of the CD be scratched as it goes through the printer? Has anyone else used these CDs and if so how did you fare with them? Any advise or feedback would be most welcome. CHeers Bugsy |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: Bugsy Date: 17 Jun 07 - 10:21 PM Thanks for that. My neice has a new HP printer. I'll check hers and see if it accepts CDs. But don't they scratch the face as they go through? CHeers Bugsy |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: open mike Date: 17 Jun 07 - 11:21 PM I have heard that there is a program that prints directly on the c.d. while it is in the burner/player tray of the computer.. This might be the one: http://www.lightscribe.com/ I also have read that: "Epson holds a patent that prevents Canon from releasing CD-printing versions of their printers in the US......due to patent issues, Canon disables CD printing on their printers sold in the US." here is the page from the epson site that describes their capabilities. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/CDLanding.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes or just google epson c d print |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: Arkie Date: 17 Jun 07 - 11:39 PM HP also has a printer that will print CDs in addition to regular printing jobs at a cost near $100. I believe this uses a tray as does the Epson. The tray protects the recorded side of the CD. I have seen CDs printed with the Epson and HP and they look very nice. One complaint about the HP was the software for setting up the CD printing, but label software such as Acoustica works quite well with printing discs. I have also seen discs printed with lightscribe that look good, but one has to use special discs for this purpose. The main complaint has been that the process takes a twenty minutes or more. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Jun 07 - 12:37 AM Lightscribe software is a space hog, and dampens other features that might work with the DVD burner. I had difficulties getting my burner to write for a while and finally realized it was the software. I'd intended to upgrade my computer anyway, so I put in another DVD burner, (Pioneer) and it intentionally didn't come with Lightscribe. It plays much nicer with the rest of my software. SRS |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 10 Jul 07 - 10:20 PM I've printed a large number of labels on CDs with my Epson Photo R220. It's very easy to use. If I can figure it out, anyone can.. And, it does print on the CD that sets in a tray, so it doesn't scratch the CD, as noted by others.. Jerry |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: treewind Date: 11 Jul 07 - 04:25 AM "chuffed to NaAAFI Breaks" It's good. I've never heard the expression before, but it's been used elsewhere (try Google) My Epson Photo Stylus R200 (older model) does a reasonable job too, when it and the computer don't get in too much of a muddle about each other's state, and when I don't get ink in places where it shouldn't be resulting in black smudges across the CD face and the need for tedious cleaning of the works. It's the only thing I use that printer for; I hate inkjets. Anahata |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: wilbyhillbilly Date: 11 Jul 07 - 04:26 AM I've had my Epson R200 series for over twelve months now and have printed more than 1000 CD's and just can't praise it enough, it's brilliant. My customers are well satisfied with the results and so far have had no complaints whatsoever, just the opposite, below is a recent comment from someone connected with the TAUNY organisation in NY. Greetings John! Just today I finally made it up to Canton NY (a 5 hour drive for me from Buffalo) to retrieve about 10 of the 38 cds you produced for us. Varick has not done a thing with them since they arrived (he is deep into other projects), so I am the first to hear these, and they're terrific! I've heard samples of several so far, and they sound great. Your packaging and labelling is also terrific. I'll report back after I've put in more hours of listening.... Thanks again, Dave R. whb |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: dick greenhaus Date: 11 Jul 07 - 12:32 PM Major problem with inkjet-printed CDs is poor water resistance. There are some new printible discs from Taiyo Uden that claim to produce water-resistant CDs from inkjet printers, and there are some oversprays and transparent overlays available. Has anyone had any experience with any of these? The special discs seem to work well, but they're pricier than the normal printable CD-Rs |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: Jim Lad Date: 11 Jul 07 - 01:22 PM Have any of you tried Thermal Printers? |
|
Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: treewind Date: 11 Jul 07 - 02:16 PM Thermal printers: Yes. The only one I used did a small single-colour rectangle of print, text only I think. Ok for labelling up your archive CDs, and the expensive ink ribbons didn't last long. Anahata |

Subject: RE: Tech: Help with Inkjet Printable CDRs From: Bugsy Date: 14 Jul 07 - 02:00 AM Chuffed to NAAFI breaks is a British Forces saying. The NAAFI (Navy, Army, Air Force Instite) was the name of our on base club. Cheers Bugsy |
