Oops! It should have been housewarming of course! I don't think there's a hosepipe ban in place though at the moment! And you're all very welcome - but please bring a drink. Mine are still in boxes exept for wine and Jamieson's!!

The campsite looks fine at the moment - and it's been really sunny here all day. Hilary and Ron had a walk round it yesterday, and said that it's drying out nicely.

Just done the radio programme - all about the festival - and Geoff spoke really well.Scolds Bridle will be bringing their new CD, Horizons, this weekend.

The Sunday night folk club has moved to the Conservative Club in Uppermill - far more comfortable and accessible. The Wedenesday night is still in the Cross Keys.

The map's great thanks 8 Pints - I can almost see my new flat on it - you're all welcome to come and have a Hosewarming drink over the weekend (2 mins. from the campsite). I'm a little upset that it doesn't show the puddle on the running track though!!

I'm looking forward to it too, now the sun's shining, and Saddleworth is looking beautiful today. It's sooooo exciting!!! (Probably my age I know!!)

Seriously though, after reading some previous threads, I am getting a bit disturbed about images of Raggytash in a string vest.
I just keep getting this nagging premonition of Raggys' beard getting caught up and all entangled in the said string vest and him having forever to mumble into his belly button.
It's a bit scary I know but I can't get rid of this image and it's giving me sleepless nights!

Definitely not moving south Linda - I couldn't leave Saddlewroth! perish the thought!

Sessions in the Conservative Club, Waggon, Hare and Hounds, and Granby Mr Happy. Is that OK? There are events in the Commercial too, but I'm not sure if there'll be any sessions going on downstairs there or not.

Then on the Sunday night the Survivors Session is in Greenfield Conservative Club cos the room is so much bigger than the Cross Keys, the beer's cheaper, and the landlord's much friendlier!And we've got 2 good sized rooms - the main one for the singaround, and the smaller one for the musicians session. We'll see if it works better than previous years in terms of comfort for everyone - at least you'll all get a seat!

O no Ali the standard of the Yorkshire Garland collectors and performers has the knowledgeable Steve Gardham, The unbelievable songs of John Greaves and me!

We have already done sung/spoken workshops this year at Shepley and Cleckheaton FFs and I believe Steve and John were also at Helmsley, bringing people up to date on what we have been doing!

I am a bit older than I used to be, and Booker as you will find is now 65 July 12th 07 (Wrigley do at Barnsley folk club on Monday 16th)

Just to keep the record right, myself and a certain Mr Calderbank have clubbed together and purchased a no expences spared, War of the Roses winners sheild. Seeing it, is at the moment, in my possesion I have already engraved it with the winners this year Yorkshire it will save confusion at the presentation!!!!!

We've loads of dragons here in Saddleworth - I'm living next door to one!!

And as for you, cheeky Ray Padgett, Saddleworth is in Yorkshire!!! I was born here in Saddleworth, and it says West Riding of Yorkshire on my birth certificate - nearly 150 years ago!!!

CD's should be OK - we've well over 400 left still. I can always put one on the side for anyone who wants one. They're called Ten Years On - Saddleworth Folk Festival Anniversary CD.

Apparently there was some rumour goung around Cleckie that Saddlewroth is cancelled - well it definitely isn't!!! I'm doing the PRS stuff as we speak (unfortunately!!)

it was the Saddleworth Summer Show which was cancelled - they use the same ground as we do for the campsite. But I've been down there today, and it's fine for camping - drying out nicely. It gets wet very quickly but dries out even quicker, thank goodness.

So if you do hear this rumour, will you put people right please?!!

And the Festival CD looks - and sounds - brilliant! I'm really chuffed with it!

As far as I am aware there are not many festivals that exclude fringes. Can you name one? Most make special provision. Shrewsbury for instance has a bus to take people into town for fringe events - and Warwick usually has a double decker. Both only offer camping for season ticket holders. One charges extra for camping - the other doesn't.

I am sure both would provide cheap camping had they got space but they don't and haven't ever in my experience at Warwick.

I have been to three festivals this year so far and only one had space for non-season ticket holders, (but wouldn't have had they sold more tickets of any kind), and one in particular once the festival got under way the campsite was - to all intents and purposes - as full as a chip, despite its size.

Some festivals and I can think of at least two - don't offer camping of any sort. Others, like Shrewsbury, charge extra for it.

To describe one festival as "correct diplomacy that all festival should adopt " when some festivals can't do this whether they want to or not - and to say I do believe that a true and proper festival should cater for all tastes and not exclude (as so many do, 'the fringe') seems narrow-minded to me when you are claiming to be all-inclusive.

So perhaps for the benefit of people who want to know these things, you would be kind enough to tell us which festivals you regard as "proper" and offering the "correct diplomacy" and those that don't cater for all tastes?

Thanks for this Soldier Boy, and I fully endorse your comments re the importance of the "fringe" events, which to me make the real atmosphere of the weekend. Visitors to Saddleworth, even if they hadn't known about the festival in advance, can't help but be drawn in. Therefore "fringe" supporters have to be given equal value by the festival committee, and that includes equal access to the camping facilities.

What I really like about the Saddleworth Folk Festival is that it is all inclusive.
What I mean by that is that concert goers and the FRINGE are all fully catered for. Too many festivals for my liking exclude 'The Fringe' and will provide camping for only season/weekend ticket holders only. This festival is different in that it is open house to everyone.
You can camp for the whole festival for just £10.00 or pay £5.00 per person per night wether you are are ticket holder or not.
To me this is the correct diplomacy that all festivals should adopt.
I do believe that a true and proper festival should cater for all tastes and not exclude (as so many do, 'the fringe')
If you have been to this festival before you will know that the fringe in terms of sing-arounds and musician sessionns is par- excellence in the local pubs (especially in the waggon and horses (I think it is called that!) and what great sessions we have had there. (please correct me if i have got this venue wrong)
Anyway, enjoy this festival to the full. You will not be dissapointed. I promise.
