Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Alio Date: 16 Jul 07 - 04:16 PM Oops! It should have been housewarming of course! I don't think there's a hosepipe ban in place though at the moment! And you're all very welcome - but please bring a drink. Mine are still in boxes exept for wine and Jamieson's!! The campsite looks fine at the moment - and it's been really sunny here all day. Hilary and Ron had a walk round it yesterday, and said that it's drying out nicely. Just done the radio programme - all about the festival - and Geoff spoke really well.Scolds Bridle will be bringing their new CD, Horizons, this weekend. Ali PS If Linda's around, Geoff's been trying to contact you re the Wars of the Roses! Has anyone seen / heard Hissyfit lately? |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: nutty Date: 16 Jul 07 - 01:58 PM Well they do get there first, so have time to pick the best spots. |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Mrs.Duck Date: 16 Jul 07 - 01:00 PM No doubt the mozzies have picked their spots on the campsite :0) |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: nutty Date: 16 Jul 07 - 12:44 PM Sorry Tim .... there's no contest. There's no chance anyone would swop Saddleworth for Staithes. Making your own entertainment is what Saddleworth is all about. |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Tim theTwangler Date: 16 Jul 07 - 11:37 AM Oh well if any of you get Itchy playing bits from all that listening . You could pop over to staithes for a bit of a play to break it up. NO? OH well I do believe it is more traditional to make yer own entertainment so that is what loads of us will be doing while you lot are slumming it and being pampered. LOL Enjoy you commercialised merry making and hope the weather is glorious for you . |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: 8_Pints Date: 16 Jul 07 - 10:54 AM Hi Alio, You have to be careful who you invite to a housewarming on the internet - did you hear about the teenager who had a party while her parents were away and advertised it on t'internet? Apparently the "guests" caused £20,000 damage! I'm not suggesting that folkies would be so irresponsible but Scowie might get to hear....... (Sorry Scowie, I love you really!) Sue vG xx |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Vin2 Date: 16 Jul 07 - 08:32 AM Must dig out me mudcat t-shirt - wearing well, hope it still fits! As for the campsite - wouldn't be the same without the odd puddle drying out in the glorious sunshine we're gonna get :-) |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: GUEST,padgett Date: 16 Jul 07 - 06:16 AM Ali Hope the puddle is on running track only and you have booked the weather too! Well it dunt rain in the pubs, thankfully Now where did I put that string vest!? Ray Better not upset Scowie this year, but it must be his round |

Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Alio Date: 16 Jul 07 - 04:05 AM The Sunday night folk club has moved to the Conservative Club in Uppermill - far more comfortable and accessible. The Wedenesday night is still in the Cross Keys. The map's great thanks 8 Pints - I can almost see my new flat on it - you're all welcome to come and have a Hosewarming drink over the weekend (2 mins. from the campsite). I'm a little upset that it doesn't show the puddle on the running track though!! I'm looking forward to it too, now the sun's shining, and Saddleworth is looking beautiful today. It's sooooo exciting!!! (Probably my age I know!!) Ali x |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Mr Happy Date: 16 Jul 07 - 02:30 AM Ali, Thanks..........Sooooooooo looking forward to the forthcoming frivolities!! |

Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Soldier boy Date: 15 Jul 07 - 10:36 PM OOPs sorry just realised in a moment of clarity that the string vest in question is attributed to Mr Pagett and not Raggytash. Please excuse my temporary dementia. But don't grow your beard long Ray lest the same horror could befall you. Anyway, that's good, I can sleep peacefully now. So to bed. |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Soldier boy Date: 15 Jul 07 - 10:18 PM Thanks 8 pints. That ariel view is really handy for those of us coming by helicopter. I'll pass it to my private pilot and trust there is a helipad! Seriously though, after reading some previous threads, I am getting a bit disturbed about images of Raggytash in a string vest. I just keep getting this nagging premonition of Raggys' beard getting caught up and all entangled in the said string vest and him having forever to mumble into his belly button. It's a bit scary I know but I can't get rid of this image and it's giving me sleepless nights! |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: 8_Pints Date: 15 Jul 07 - 06:14 PM We plan to arrive Friday after visiting Limbrick on Thursday. For those who have never been to Saddleworth previously and want use their Sat-Nav devices to get them to the camp site, the postcode to enter is "OL3 7AL". Churchill Playing Fields running track |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Linda Kelly Date: 15 Jul 07 - 05:53 PM Is the folk club still on at the Cross Keys on Sunday Ali ?Glad your not moving southward!!!! |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Alio Date: 15 Jul 07 - 05:48 PM Definitely not moving south Linda - I couldn't leave Saddlewroth! perish the thought! Sessions in the Conservative Club, Waggon, Hare and Hounds, and Granby Mr Happy. Is that OK? There are events in the Commercial too, but I'm not sure if there'll be any sessions going on downstairs there or not. Then on the Sunday night the Survivors Session is in Greenfield Conservative Club cos the room is so much bigger than the Cross Keys, the beer's cheaper, and the landlord's much friendlier! And we've got 2 good sized rooms - the main one for the singaround, and the smaller one for the musicians session. We'll see if it works better than previous years in terms of comfort for everyone - at least you'll all get a seat! Next question? Ali |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Mr Happy Date: 15 Jul 07 - 11:39 AM Which will be the session/sar pubs this time? |

Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Alio Date: 09 Jul 07 - 04:32 PM Apparently there was some rumour goung around Cleckie that Saddlewroth is cancelled - well it definitely isn't!!! I'm doing the PRS stuff as we speak (unfortunately!!) it was the Saddleworth Summer Show which was cancelled - they use the same ground as we do for the campsite. But I've been down there today, and it's fine for camping - drying out nicely. It gets wet very quickly but dries out even quicker, thank goodness. So if you do hear this rumour, will you put people right please?!! And the Festival CD looks - and sounds - brilliant! I'm really chuffed with it! Ali x |

Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Folkiedave Date: 09 Jul 07 - 02:31 PM As far as I am aware there are not many festivals that exclude fringes. Can you name one? Most make special provision. Shrewsbury for instance has a bus to take people into town for fringe events - and Warwick usually has a double decker. Both only offer camping for season ticket holders. One charges extra for camping - the other doesn't. I am sure both would provide cheap camping had they got space but they don't and haven't ever in my experience at Warwick. I have been to three festivals this year so far and only one had space for non-season ticket holders, (but wouldn't have had they sold more tickets of any kind), and one in particular once the festival got under way the campsite was - to all intents and purposes - as full as a chip, despite its size. Some festivals and I can think of at least two - don't offer camping of any sort. Others, like Shrewsbury, charge extra for it. To describe one festival as "correct diplomacy that all festival should adopt " when some festivals can't do this whether they want to or not - and to say I do believe that a true and proper festival should cater for all tastes and not exclude (as so many do, 'the fringe') seems narrow-minded to me when you are claiming to be all-inclusive. So perhaps for the benefit of people who want to know these things, you would be kind enough to tell us which festivals you regard as "proper" and offering the "correct diplomacy" and those that don't cater for all tastes? |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Vin2 Date: 09 Jul 07 - 01:37 PM Yep, sounds about right! |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Alio Date: 07 Jul 07 - 07:44 PM Thanks for this Soldier Boy, and I fully endorse your comments re the importance of the "fringe" events, which to me make the real atmosphere of the weekend. Visitors to Saddleworth, even if they hadn't known about the festival in advance, can't help but be drawn in. Therefore "fringe" supporters have to be given equal value by the festival committee, and that includes equal access to the camping facilities. Ali |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Soldier boy Date: 06 Jul 07 - 09:37 PM Thanks Alio. What I really like about the Saddleworth Folk Festival is that it is all inclusive. What I mean by that is that concert goers and the FRINGE are all fully catered for. Too many festivals for my liking exclude 'The Fringe' and will provide camping for only season/weekend ticket holders only. This festival is different in that it is open house to everyone. You can camp for the whole festival for just £10.00 or pay £5.00 per person per night wether you are are ticket holder or not. To me this is the correct diplomacy that all festivals should adopt. I do believe that a true and proper festival should cater for all tastes and not exclude (as so many do, 'the fringe') If you have been to this festival before you will know that the fringe in terms of sing-arounds and musician sessionns is par- excellence in the local pubs (especially in the waggon and horses (I think it is called that!) and what great sessions we have had there. (please correct me if i have got this venue wrong) Anyway, enjoy this festival to the full. You will not be dissapointed. I promise. |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Alio Date: 06 Jul 07 - 06:46 PM Cheers Soldier Boy - see you in the Festival Office. I'll be the one selling the Festiaal CD's probably! Geoff's picking them up tonight. Ali |
Subject: RE: 10th Saddleworth From: Soldier boy Date: 06 Jul 07 - 07:00 AM This is a Great festival. I recommend it to everyone. I'll be there. |
