Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: C. Ham Date: 24 Aug 07 - 02:14 PM I was just listening to Mike Regenstreif interviewing Noah Zacharin on yesterday's Folk Roots/Folk Branches and Mike and Noah were talking about David Bromberg. Noah said something about Bromberg touring again after many years and Mike responded by saying something along the lines of (I'm paraphrasing) sometimes an artist needs to go away from music for a period of years before coming back better than ever. I thought of Bruce Murdoch when he said that. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: GUEST Date: 18 Aug 07 - 03:58 PM Thanks Gnu for those kind words. It was great meeting you and dusting off your axe and sharing a drink. Am now at my sister and brother in law's in N.S.for a week or so. Purpose of trip is also to look at the future of the festival. I have some major decisions to make and hopefully I will have them all worked out by the time I get back. Beer (adrien) |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: gnu Date: 18 Aug 07 - 12:04 PM Yup. And, I would like to put in a plug for Beer. No, no, no.... I mean Adrien. I am not party to all the details, but his time and effort played large in getting Bruce on that stage. Thanks Beer. I'll also say, I like his guitar playing, his singing and his storytelling. And, I did into the wee hours of today. He's a cool dude. He even made my old Seagull sing better than it has for years. Thanks Adrien. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Ron Davies Date: 18 Aug 07 - 07:50 AM Finally had a chance to hear the broadcast. Great songs and fascinating stories--basket houses etc.--and wonderful wry humor. We're lucky to have Bruce on Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: bankley Date: 17 Aug 07 - 01:00 PM you folks have impressive memories.... this is going back almost half a century. Here's an idea for John... get a cd bootleg copy and transfer it back to the Ferrograph recorder, preferably on some decent vintage tape ... then you have an interesting package, Road Show or not..... |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: C. Ham Date: 16 Aug 07 - 02:49 PM I think the Dylan tape from the Finjan was actually recorded by Jack Nissenson and that Michael Nerenberg eventually ended up with it. It's become a fairly common Dylan bootleg and is quite easy to come by in CD form on the Dylan bootleg sites. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: john f weldon Date: 16 Aug 07 - 02:32 PM By Mark Nuremberg you probably mean Mike Nerenberg, who did have a quarter-inch copy. Guess who still owns the original 60-lb portable Ferrograph tape recorder used to make this famous underground tape? Hint - me! Never got a copy of the tape tho... Worth something at the Antiques Road Show? |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: bankley Date: 16 Aug 07 - 01:25 PM somebody recently surfaced with a tape recording of that gig... maybe Mark Nuremberg... I paid $125 to see Dylan last Nov. at the Bell Center... left after 3 songs.. not one of his better gigs, the opening act was the Foo Fighters 'acoustic version' they were fine. The times sure have been changin'...... |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: bobad Date: 16 Aug 07 - 11:14 AM "The Blue Lantern" AKA "Le PotPourri" June 28 , 1962: An unknown folksinger by the name of Bob Dylan plays Montréal for the first time at the back of a small club right around the corner from radio station CKGM, then situated at 1455 Drummond. The club is known at this time as "Le PotPourri" (later The Seven Steps), located at 1432 Stanley Street. Dylan is booked for 4 evenings and is payed $125.00 for his total stint, playing in front of only a handful of nightly patrons. Dylan extends this first Montréal visit by performing an additional one-nighter on July 2nd at The Finjan Club on Victoria Street. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: bankley Date: 14 Aug 07 - 11:06 AM the Blue Lantern on Stanley St. Dylan played there too, early on. It changed names and owners a few times. The Seven Steps, The Rainbow. There was a room downstairs called the Totem Pole, used to play there occasionally with a band "The Urge", first saw Bruce, Sean, Van Ronk and many others up close and personal. It's now a 'Subways'... The Pam-Pam across the street was the watering hole., I think there's still a resto-bar there.... good times....... Ron |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: rehab11 Date: 12 Aug 07 - 05:42 PM I always thought Sean, read the book before or after a trip that had opened a window for him, and that he experienced similiar to what writer had. Those strange states of conciousness that one can be in. Even Wayne Dyer on new pbs show quoted old man saying One day woke up and knew I had no need of a personal history. being like dogs and birds free no need for clothes or diff public selfs true to his soul the pieces of sky meaning spirit or soul too high to get caught up down here. That is what it meant for me.. Reading lastest,Had memory of Murdock, Havens being on same bill at Blue Lantern and Willie Dunn showing up now and then Thank you so Bankley. I have wanted the words for years. Crossing border Monday no passport required if on bus or in car as far as I know. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: bankley Date: 11 Aug 07 - 08:06 PM So do I, he's one of the masters, Ms Azizi... nice to finally be back in touch.... Ron |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Azizi Date: 11 Aug 07 - 03:48 PM Thanks, Ron. I look forward to hearing that song. And I also look forward to hearing Bruce's songs on a CD-the ones he sung on the radio show, and others. Best wishes, Ms. Azizi ["Aziz" + an "i"] :o) |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: bankley Date: 11 Aug 07 - 09:10 AM well, Aziz, you got to hear it, but you're right.... there's a haunting minor key chorus... but it resolves now and then, which gives some hope to the listener... due to recent interest, perhaps i'll record it one of these days along with a couple of other songs by Sean. Sketches for the archives..I wouldn't want to see it all forgotten. there was a funny episode of the Simpsons where Homer ate a bunch of 'magic' jalepeno peppers, and ended up 'lost on the high range', but was befriended by a talking coyote whose voice was done by Johnny Cash... brillant..... i'll let you know when it's recorded, in a few weeks i reckon.... Ron "If we could talk about music, there would be no need to play it" Igor Stravinsky |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Azizi Date: 10 Aug 07 - 10:47 PM Thanks for posting those words,GUEST,bankley {Ron). I'm wondering if this song is as sad as it "sounds" to me? |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: GUEST,bankley Date: 10 Aug 07 - 12:26 PM hey Cat, I'll get you a copy of 'Run with You' as soon as I unpack a few more boxes. Maybe next month. His new one should be out early next year. I've left trax all over it... To Aziz and DeeDee, I remember the words to San Mescalito, played it many times with the 'Ghost Rider' himself.... also, 'Bird's Eye View', ' Circle Harbour Parable' and of course 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind'.... the lyrics are sparse to Mescalito, a lot of repetition, but the music is haunting...Spanish/Mexican feel.. Tom Russell would have fun.. I could sit down and record a version for y'all, I pack a small digital studio around, just in case.. easier that a 750 lb., 2 in. Studer. So get in touch, and I'll see what I can do.... Ron San Mescalito pray for me now por favor I'm lost on the high range and feeling so strange and I can't find the door Lost in the strange way out on the range Never been here before I'm free as the dogs and I fly with the crows, na na na na na I climb on the wind and talk to my friend And I don't need my clothes I raised up my head and looked at his face na na na na na I felt I would die there were pieces of sky where his eyes should have been..... Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: GUEST,Big Mick Date: 09 Aug 07 - 08:39 PM I am moved back to Michigan, Bruce, and overcoming a ton of problems that come from leaving a house for 2 1/2 years. Add that to the fact that my current assignment involves Smithfield and organizing slaughter/packinghouse workers in South Dakota, northwestern Iowa, and northeastern Nebraska, which means I fly out on Monday, and fly home on Friday, and it makes it difficult to get it done. But we are managing. I am playing a bit of music out here, and coming to know some Mexicano musicians, which ought to have an interesting influence on my music. I am having to use my Spanish, which I haven't done on a daily basis in some years, but it is coming back nicely. Ah ..... the life of a union organizer/folksinger. It ain't fer everyone, but it is who I am. Hope we get the chance to sing together one day. I wanted to make the Canadian gathering so badly, but I just couldn't squeeze it in with the move. Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Peace Date: 09 Aug 07 - 04:18 PM DENNIS LAKUSTA: 'Run With You' DJL 001 Review by Barry Newman Formerly a railway worker and a cab driver, Lakusta (now 50) bought his first guitar at a Vancouver pawnshop on an impulse when in his early twenties. His melodic songwriting reflects a vast wealth of experiences and inspirations - being on the road, his Metis roots, the late Lenny Breau, damage to the environment, a friend who succumbed to breast cancer - with very subtle & effective chord changes and beautiful lyrical phasing. 'Wonders' is Dennis' tribute to nature (in particular, BC's Nicola Valley) which features very sweet and haunting chants, as does 'Let The River Run', a lament about chemical contamination of our rivers & streams. Musicians include Ron Bankley (lead guitar & harp), Tammy Fassaert (bass), Nancy Taylor (backup vocals), Doug Thornton (fiddle & viola). Produced by Dennis with Ron Bankley, recorded & mixed at Big Blue Fish Studios and mastered by Don Blegg at Pacific North Studios. Dennis Lakusta's CD is a wonderfully warm and soothing delight... perfect medicine for the end of a hectic day. Contact: dlakusta@canada.com |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: fringedweller Date: 09 Aug 07 - 03:22 PM Ron, you talking about Willie Dunn made me remember the very nice CD you did with Dennis Lakusta, Run With You...last year or before, you gave me a weblink where I could hear your stuff & get the lyrics. After 'the crash' I lost it. If you're still on that website, could you give the link again? 'Cause I think some of the folks in here would like it. A lot. I think it was a Nashvile site? Ron (Rawn, of old)just sent me the link to Bruce's show with Mike, and I then told him that I'd been trying to google contact info for you with no success; he pointed me to this thread. I've thought of you soooo many times over the years - the memory of you always brings a smile. (I'll never forget your Lily Tomlin telephone operator impersonation!) I also can hear your voice still, singing Spanish Boots, or Let Me Be Your Woman. And yeah, it was so great to hear Bruce again! I just tried the addy you gave Bruce on 26 July 07, and my ISP returned it as undeliverable. Hope I don't get spammed now, but here goes, using code, AT for @: fringy(AT)telus.net. It was good to listen to the quicktime program. Keep kthe music flowing, Peace, and don't forget to givet titles to the songs, so they can be listed on the "album" cover when your recording comes out!! I would like to get one of the first copies... after Mike R. of course... Welcome Back!! |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Peace Date: 08 Aug 07 - 12:33 PM RON. I have thought of you for years, wondering where you were and whether you were still makin' music. Also, someone in Montreal was askin' after Willie and all I could say was he'd better be makin' music, too. I guess we've all come from "School days, school days, good old broken rule days." Hi back at you with warmest regards. When you're in touch with Willie tell him that, well, just tell him. Bruce |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: GUEST,bankley Date: 08 Aug 07 - 09:33 AM good to hear you again old friend.... even a week or so later.. I was in BC doing some session work while this was transpiring...the thought was there. Glad that Mike archives the shows for later listening. Brought back memories, esp. knockin' around with you and Gagnier. Keep working on the guitar, I've never stopped and always find something new when I play.... Willie Dunn and I hooked up about 10 years ago. Ended up touring and recording together for awhile. He remains one of my closest friends. We helped each other out of some personal doldrums. He's playing in Lunenburg this week-end, by the way. Migmaw country and the bluenose...so he still gets out there every now and then.. I once had supper at Vignault's house in Deux Montanges...nice man.. I used to knock around a lot on the other side of the linguistic/cultural scene of Quebec. Still do a bit. I was lucky. Still am. funny he married a blue-eyed blonde from TMR, tho. The Gagnier song that was mentioned earlier was 'San Mescalito' written during the early Castenada period and enhanced by certain substances. I miss him... Hi Mary.... thanks Bruce.. much luv Ron |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: GUEST,Bob Ryszkiewicz Date: 03 Aug 07 - 11:26 AM Friends: It's Friday morning, and I awake to the news that Mike Regenstrief is leaving the show. I'm trying right now to find some words, but I can't...Here's a guy whose love of Folk Music is so great, and his support so strong, over so many years...All I can say is thanks for all you've done Mike. I don't want to take up too much space here, and PEACE has pretty much summed up my feeling regarding Ormstown. It was surreal to me, so many fine people...It went by in a nanosecond. A great memory. Thanks to all of you... |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Peace Date: 03 Aug 07 - 01:17 AM I felt a great sense of sadness when Mike told me he'd be leaving the show. The first thing folks have to understand about Mike is that he's knowledgeable about folk music and sincere in his love for it. He's a great interviewer because to him it's about the person on the other side of the microphone and he checks the background of the people he has on, so he already knows the answers to many of the questions he asks. He has an exquisite sense of when to redirect, clarify or let his guest go on. That is rare in my experience with radio shows--and I've done many of them over the years. However, the quality of the man and his love for the music and people who make it shows in the transition. Gerry Goodfriend is up to speed on the way things are done, and while I know that Gerry will add his personal stamp, I also know the show will maintain its high quality standard, because Gerry is one good guy with a love for music that rivals Mike's. CKUT FM will continue to be in good hands. As to a festival for next year: I truly hope there will be one, Adrien. Perhaps you don't know, and if you don't you should, that it is a wonderful event. It's well organized (and I won't embarrass you by singling you out for praise in that regard, but praise you deserve). It was a pleasure to meet many of the festival committee members and people who did so much of the dog work to ensure that the folks on stage were treated like some kind of visiting VIPs and the folks in the audience were treated to a well-run festival. You have done with a cast of tens what many other festivals with a cast of hundreds have failed to do: namely, you make the performers feel appreciated and valued. That ain't as common as it should be. Thanks to your fire department, I was given a tour of two pieces of apparatus--their rescue vehicle and a rapid attack vehicle. They are a neat bunch of guys, and I was able to take away a good idea regarding motor vehicle stabilization for our department to consider. The people who displayed and sold their crafts were so polite and friendly. In fact, there were no miserable people there at all. When Bob, Chris and I took 20 minutes to prepare for the set, we went to the barn to park it and practise. I never leave my guitar unattended anywhere, ever, at all, under any circumstance, period. I did there and wasn't the least worried. Parking was great, seating good, bathrooms available and camping area for people with trailers or tents were to hand. Many people who'd stayed here and there at the festival made mention of the friendliness of the town's people and merchants. The stage crew was something else. It was so good to hear and see them keeping track of the clock and ensuring that performers stuck to their times. It was so enjoyable, and I want to thank you for making it so. My one regret was not having enough time to sit and relax with my friends. Another 7,642 hours would have been nice. If you invite me again, I will be sure to get there and stay from Thursday night until Monday morning. However, I did get to meet some folks from the Mudcat and also re-meet some friends from 35 years ago. There were personal highlights for me, but right up there with that has to be seeing and hearing Noah Zacharin again, meeting his lovely partner who is also a fantastic singer/musician, and having the opportunity to sit with the two of them and write a song together from 1:00 - 4:30 AM, Sunday. Noah's guitar work was right on, and he wasn't at all bothered by syncopations. Laura Fernandez's voice is beautiful, and her harmonies were crucial to the song's development. Noah is a fine lyric writer and he knows when the rules should be ignored. It was an experience I will treasure, because egos got left at the door and we were able to put together a song that absolutely rocks. It is at once new and exciting, old and familiar. We still have to look again at the third stanza, but the rest is as good as anything I've heard in years, and like the man said, it does the job. Thanks to you both. More tomorrow about specific people. |

But it occurs to me that maybe Rehab11 did join Mudcat and has forgotten her {or his} password as this portion of that post notes that "...can not get on pm here signed up for new e mail that is not working so it may take awhile" But on second thought, perhaps Rehab11 can not get on pm here because that she {he?} didn't join so can't use Mudcat pm {private message} system. In case guests aren't aware of this, joining Mudcat is easy. Just click on Membership near the top right hand corner and follow those instructions. And if you do join, and have problems with your password, you can email Joe Offer, the moderator of this forum. But I can't remember his email address. Would someone please post it just in case it's needed? Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: maeve Date: 02 Aug 07 - 04:59 PM Ah! The penny drops. Thanks for clearing that up, Azizi. And again, a warm welcome to our guests. maeve |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Azizi Date: 02 Aug 07 - 03:52 PM maeve, the message that GUEST Rehab11 wrote on 01 Aug 07 - 07:14 PM probably was directed to GUEST,Mary Bourdon who posted to this thread on 26 Jul 07 - 03:20 PM. I gather from Mary Bourdon's post that she and her brother Sean and their other brother were old friends of Bruce's and I gathered from Rehab11's last post that that she knew Mary Bourdon and her brothers {and perhaps knew Bruce also}. I also gather from Rehab11's post that Sean wrote a song which contained a line about having sky where his eyes should have been. She said she couldn't remember the rest of the lyrics. And though this was very much a private conversation directed to folks who haven't seen each other for a while, and it would be interesting to read the words to that sky song. That said, I also would like to welcome to Mudcat GUEST,Mary Bourdon GUEST,Rehab11, and any other guest posters on this thread. I hope that you visit other threads and consider joining Mudcat discussion forum! |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: maeve Date: 02 Aug 07 - 02:57 PM Rehab11- I'm not at all clear as to what you are trying to say here, but perhaps you posted on this thread by mistake. Welcome to Mudcat anyway. This thread is offering congratulations to a Mudcat member, who was interviewed and performed some of his own well-written songs. If you'd like to take a listen, there are links earlier in the thread. Bruce- I did finally manage to listen to your radio spot and liked the lyrics and music very much. I'm glad you are writing and performing your songs! Thanks to Mike for hosting this program, to those who posted links, and thanks to Amos in particular for his easy shortcut to Bruce's part of the program, 'cause otherwise I'd still be watching my computer whirrrrr along, trying unsuccessfully to download the show! maeve |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Peace Date: 27 Jul 07 - 10:16 PM Thank you for saying so many nice things. Touches the ol' boy's heart. It was wonderful to see Mike again. He was always a kind, thoughtful, considerate and caring guy, and time has not diminished those great human characteristics in him at all. I have the utmost respect for him as a person and friend. Been that way for one heckuva lotta years, and it ain't gonna change anytime soon. Y'all keep well. |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Bill D Date: 27 Jul 07 - 04:45 PM I suppose if one's ears are so VERY highly attuned to only the VERY highest echelons of the generé, and one is renowned far & wide as an undoubted authority on the nuances, then of COURSE the simplistic, undeveloped clots of wannabe singers in the far reaches of the Empire would seem bland & nondescript to such a knowledgeable critic. I would think Miss Easby should have the eternal gratitude of Canadians for enlightening them and helping them to understand their status. Perhaps they can learn enough so that the next generation might develop some individuality. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: C. Ham Date: 27 Jul 07 - 02:27 PM Yes all Canadians do sound the same. Stan Rogers sounds just like Ron Hynes who sounds like Ian Tyson who sounds like Bruce Cockburn who sounds like Gordon Lightfoot who sounds exactly like Joni Mitchell who sounds like Buffy Sainte-Marie who sounds like Ken Whiteley who sounds like Hank Snow who sounds like Bruce Murdoch who sounds like Garnet Rogers who sounds like Colin Linden who sounds like Fred Eaglesmith who sounds like Paul Mills who sounds like Eve Goldberg who sounds like Kate McGarrigle who sounds like Ian Tamblyn who sounds like Bob Bossin who sounds like me. Of course, none of sound like Gilles Vigneault. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Rapparee Date: 27 Jul 07 - 12:19 PM So the show sucked, except for Bruce? Jeez, I thought that they were all better than I am. Hey Peace! You don't suck, man! |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: The Borchester Echo Date: 27 Jul 07 - 12:10 PM Cyril Tawney, Arlo Guthrie, Tom Russell, Bob Ryskiewicz, Jesse Winchester, Gretchen Peters and Leonard Cohen Really? Since the stream went down, as I said, and it took bloody ages rebuffering I didn't hear any of that. Only the Leonard Cohen would have interested me though. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: John MacKenzie Date: 27 Jul 07 - 12:03 PM Yup listened to it today too, nice stuff from Bruce, must admit I agree with Diane on the Ron Hynes stuff though. I adored Joan of Arc, that Leonard Cohen has a way with words doesn't he? Giok |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: balladeer Date: 27 Jul 07 - 11:55 AM Bruce, I'm listening to you singing Stars at Night on Mike's show. Such passion and pathos in your highly original voice! And the stories are so interesting ... |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Amos Date: 27 Jul 07 - 11:35 AM Damn, "Mister Peace", you jumped in with both boots on and made a hit just beinng who you are. Nice work, man. A |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: C. Ham Date: 27 Jul 07 - 11:28 AM Who are the singer-songwriters heard on the broadcast that Dian Easby disparages so? Cyril Tawney, Arlo Guthrie, Tom Russell, Bob Ryskiewicz, Jesse Winchester, Gretchen Peters and Leonard Cohen. Other artists not doing their own songs were Jennifer Warnes (an Ian Tyson song), Johnny Cash (a Tom Russell song), The Bluegrass Gospel Project (a Jesse Winchester song) and Swift Years (an instrumental). Almost every track, including the four by Ron Hynes, was A-list in my book. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: The Borchester Echo Date: 27 Jul 07 - 08:35 AM I also said that I didn't much like the first guest, a run-of-the-mill, typically Canadian snigger-snogger, after which it all droned on interminably in similar vein and I was quite glad when the stream went down and spent ages rebuffering. Of the bits I heard of Mr Peace once the stream was restored, I found it quite an improvement on the rest. No doubt when Mr Peace calls Mr Beer (whoever that is) he will let him know that I have already said so to him offlist. |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Azizi Date: 27 Jul 07 - 08:19 AM Corrections: "If Mike R. has a show of best interviews with artists, I believe that the Bruce Murdoch interview should be included-because of the interview portion as well as the high quality of Bruce's songs. For instance, I found the remembrances Bruce shared about basket [night]clubs and of Richie Havens singing people outside of and back into the nightclub to be particularly interesting from a music/folk cultural standpoint. But in their own way, each of the songs that Bruce shared especially moved me." -snip- In that radio interview Bruce mentioned that he had composed other songs that were keepers. I look forward to Bruce having a CD of the four songs that he performed on Mike's show and those other songs too. Thanks, again Bruce! |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Azizi Date: 27 Jul 07 - 08:07 AM Bruce's songs and conversation gave voice to the interesting, insightful, humorous, creative, multifaceted person we have come to know on Mudcat. Those songs!!! YES!!! Like George P., "Last Man Standing" with its line "write to me when life's not so demanding" was my personal favorite. But for different reasons, I felt all the songs are definite keepers. If Mike R. has a show of best interviews with artists, I believe that the Bruce Murdoch interview should be included-because of the interview portion as well as the high quality of Bruce's songs. For instance, I found the remembrances Bruce shared about basket [night]clubs and of Richie Havens singing people outside of a back into the nightclub to be particularly interesting from a music/folk cultural standpoint. But it's each of those songs that especially moved me. Thanks, Bruce for picking up that guitar again and thank you for letting the words and tunes come through you to us! |
Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Beer Date: 27 Jul 07 - 07:43 AM Thank you meself. I was p.m'ed the same message. Late night with a few to many. If he/she responds I promise to be cool and not reply. Well a year of a lot of work has arrived and even though the weather if iffy we'll have a good time. I will be interviewed on C.B.C. at 12:35 at 88.5 F.M. Radio One if anyone is interested. Ron Hynes will be arriving here in a few hours and the man "Mr. Bruce Murdoch", should be calling shortly. Nervous?, a little I guess, but to late to call it quits now and besides this is what I love to do. Go Bruce. Beer (adrien) |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Rapparee Date: 26 Jul 07 - 09:37 PM I was listening to it and WHAM! No, my Internet connection didn't fail. Instead, I got The Call that allowed me to make arrangements for a YEAR of weekly radio shows on the local NPR station. So...iffen Bruce will come down, I'll get him on the air here. Heck, I'll even set it up so he can make some money while he's in town. I mean, what's Montreal got that Pocatello don't? Or maybe I shouldn't ask that.... Good job, Bruce. May all your gitar strings break at the Festival! |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: The Borchester Echo Date: 26 Jul 07 - 11:38 AM I heard the show though the stream when down midway and I missed the start of the interview with Bruce. Wasn't too keen on the first guest, Ron Hynes. He was OK but just reinforced my suspicion that all Canadians sound the same. Except Gilles Vigneault. But Bruce's songs were a bit different and he came across well. |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: GUEST,Bob Ryszkiewicz Date: 25 Jul 07 - 09:51 PM Friends: As the night slowly falls on Montreal as we await the arrival of Uncle Brucie, sometimes affectionately(not THAT affectionately) known as "Mudrock", I thought I would offer a little story to all you who are, well, a little "uncomfortable" with the new tekkieschmekkie podcasterblaster #@$%#$&computer stuff that surrounds us. The other day I decide it might be a good idea to contact SOCAN, the performing rights agency, since my new album just got released on all the download shops. And, as we all know, them thar royalties are a GOOD thing. So I call them up and tell them I was with BMI in 1969! and that I did one song on T.V. 6 minutes playing time = $400 in royalties in 1969 dollars. Booyeah! They ask, "What's your name?." I tell them and hear ferocious typing on the computer...They go, "Oh, yeah, you're right here, what's your new address and phone number?" So kids, that's 38 YEARS ago, and they STILL got me... Which means, if some guy is taking a wee wee in Taiwan and he's humming one of my songs, these guys will find him. So, Bruce on the radio with Mike VILL BE AVAILABLE! ZAT iss fer sure.... And, the tip for today is, don't put that white iPod your kid gave you for your birthday in the toaster, hoping it will turn a golden brown. It wants to be your friend, All's ya gots ta do is read them durn instructions!!! I laugh with you...as I give my beloved computer a big hug and a kiss goodnight... Baby, I really didn't mean all those things I said about computers in the first paragraph, oh come on now, download, download...aw %&$%*#$@!!! bob |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: john f weldon Date: 25 Jul 07 - 02:15 PM Hi Gnu, etc.... Some mudcatters might even have jobs (unlike myself) but FR/FB starring MR can be downloaded after it's archived... Find the show you want here... http://www.ckutfolk.com/listen.html ...and click the right button on the mouse. OR option-click the only button. This should cause the show to be transferred to the computer. Then you need to play the mp3; lots of options; it will work with quicktime and/or iTunes, both available free. Is that all clear as mud? I'm not sure how quickly they archive, though... hope this helps (By the way those of you in faraway lands, this show is the best I've found so far, globally...) cheers John |

Subject: RE: Bruce Murdoch on the radio From: Mike Regenstreif Date: 24 Jul 07 - 01:35 PM In 1972 -- 35 Years ago -- I was a student at Dawson College and got a small budget from the student government to create a folk music concert series. Among the performers who played the Dawson series were such notables as Utah Phillips, Malvina Reynolds, John Allan Cameron, Jean Carignan, Michael Cooney, Jesse Winchester and many others. But the very FIRST performer I invited to open the series was Bruce Murdoch. Then, in 1974, when I took over running the Golem, the Montreal coffeehouse/folk club, the first performer I invited to play there, and the first performer who did play there in my tenure, was again Bruce Murdoch. Shortly after I started doing the radio show -- almost 14 years ago now -- I told Bruce I wanted him to come on the show. I'm so glad it's finally happening. I've really missed Bruce and his songs over the past too many years. I hope I can get a space near the front for his Ormstown concert. Mike Regenstreif |

However to look at it as you suggested I kind of like that idea because Mike's show is truly a great one. When we meet I will tell you what I wanted to call it and still do. It would have been in honor of someone. Much like the Stan Rogers Festival except this person is still alive. It could still happen as there will be a lot or reorganizing for next year.
