Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: GUEST,Ed in New Zealand Date: 14 Sep 12 - 08:43 PM At break of day I watch the homing swallow:as t'wards the south he wings his distant flight, O happy flight:Thou beauteous bird Ah wish that I could follow: to that far land where dwells my hearts delight; (next verse) For ah to thee myrestless thoughts keep thronging: Of lovers meeting and the memories of bliss:Each night and day my heart is filled with longing : Again to feel the magic of your kiss" sorry cant come up with any more |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: fox4zero Date: 14 Sep 12 - 09:13 PM My dad, Mitchell Parish, did an English lyric which was published in the early 1920's. I'm away from home now, so I don't have access to the sheet music.I doubt if it would add much to the thread anyway. Larry Parish |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: GUEST,Ed in New Zealand Date: 21 Jan 13 - 12:33 AM Have other 3 verses. It breaks my heartsweet bird to have you leave me/I fearyou'll tire and weaken in your flight/If you but knew how deepyour loss will grieve me/youwould remainto make my sad life bright/VerseThe happy days alas are far behind me/When I was living in the land I love/But still the fond chains of memory bind me though now,/an exile lonely I must rove/ Verse If you will stay I never will forget you/I'll make a cosy nest so soft and warm/From winter cold and storm I will protect you/ It will be my care to shield you from all harm |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: GUEST Date: 17 Feb 13 - 09:34 AM Does anyone know anything about a song called When You're In Love and the writers who wrote this song (their names are Harold Feilds and Dominic John)? I was thinking that the song was written by Bob Merle because of the songs he wrote that were based on early folk tunes but if you could find some information about either of those, did they write other songs for example? That would be really great! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: MikeL2 Date: 06 Apr 13 - 01:41 PM hi I believe that Josef Locke, an Irish tenor in the late 40's/early fifties sang a version. When you're in love, the whole world sings a melody When you're in love, who cares if raindrops fall When you're in love, the angels walk beside you They seem to say Heaven's not far away In country lanes, as you hear the church bells ringing Your heart goes winging, where birds are singing And in your heart there's no room for tears and sorrow That sad tomorrow will never come to you When you're in love, the whole world sings a melody When you're in love, who cares if raindrops fall And so I pray that someday I shall find you That perfect day when you're in love with me When you're in love, the whole world sings a melody When you're in love, who cares if raindrops fall And so I pray that someday I shall find you That perfect day when you're in love with me. Hope this helps. Cheers Mikel2 |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 06 Apr 13 - 03:08 PM "When You're in Love," the whole world sings a melody.... The song is by Dominic John, Desmond O'Connor, Harold Fields. Copyright 1949. Josef Locke, 1949. Tony Pastor and Rosemary Clooney 1949 made a hit record. No relation to La Golondrina that I can see. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: GUEST,kirby Date: 21 Sep 13 - 10:59 PM My parents used to sing this version. In rapid flight perhaps towards Granada the little swallow from its nest departs somewhere beyond the mountains it will find Granada land of romance, of love and tender hearts. Chorus: If I could make dreams come true I would be like the swallow searching the magic skies where its happiness lies dwelling in heavens blue, always ready to follow the one he loves where ever she may be. If anyone knows this version, I would like to know. jkward@earthlink.net |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: GUEST,Tony Date: 22 Sep 13 - 12:46 PM Kirby, as Jim Dixon pointed out above, there's a 1935 score with lyrics by Jerry Castillo, beginning "In rapid flight, perhaps towards Granada, a little swallow", referenced in the Indiana University sheet music database. New link here . It says the work was performed by Shep Fields (a 1930's band leader). The score itself isn't available there, so your contribution of those lyrics is a valuable addition to this thread. I don't speak Spanish, but it sounds like the lyrics you posted could be a translation of what's in the 1906 recording by Carlos Francisco. Slobodan maintains a blog dedicated to La Golondrina and the other songs based on it, at http://indreamsonly.blogspot.com/, with mp3 files of many versions, including Francisco's and very likely some performance of the version you posted. You could search his archive pages for mention of Shep Fields or Granada, or e-mail him at the address he posted above. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Swallow / La Golondrina From: GUEST Date: 22 May 16 - 06:40 AM Where wilt thou go my agile little swallow Thine wings will tire if long thine flights should be If wind n storm should bring thee pain n anguish if seeking shelter, none be found for thee! Ah! come to me, a soft warm nest i offer Where all the wintry seasons will pass thee by For also i wander in regions so lonely Mid cold n tempests , n have no wings to fly I leave my home that is to me belov'ed That gave me birth for some bleak distant shore A poor lone wanderer with no one to care for I leave my home n can return no more Ah cherished bird, thou pilgrim well belove'd My heart draws near thee, o'er thee a watch doth keep Thine tender song falls on my ears so sadly Recalls my home n alas I only weep! |
