A friend sent me the following. Man are we in a globial crises or what!!
Beer (adrien)

OSLO (AFP) - A grown moose belches out methane gas equivalent to 2,100
kilograms (4,630 pounds) of carbon dioxide a year, contributing to global
warming, Norwegian researchers said Wednesday.

That is more than twice the amount of CO2 emitted on a round-trip flight
across the Atlantic Ocean from Oslo to the Chilean capital Santiago,
according to Scandinavian Airlines.

"An adult moose emits about 100 kilograms of methane gas a year. But methane
gas is much stronger than carbon dioxide, so to get the equivalent you have
to multiply by 21," professor Odd Harstad at the Norwegian University of
Life Sciences told AFP.

With an estimated 140,000 moose roaming Norway's forests, that is a total of
of 294,000,000 kilograms of CO2 per year.

But Harstad said that was no reason to begin killing off the entire moose
population.

"Moose have very important functions in nature. They are ruminants that eat
the grass. If we don't have ruminants, we have too much grass and that
changes the landscape and has consequences for the flora and fauna," he
said.

Harstad said the figure of 100 kilograms of methane gas was a rough estimate
based on earlier calculations for beef cows in Norway.

As is the case with cows and other ruminants, methane is produced from the
microbes in the moose's stomach which help break down the roughage they eat.
Because methane gas is stronger than carbon dioxide, it is considered even
more harmful to the environment. Both methane and carbon dioxide are
so-called greenhouses gases, one of the main causes of global warming.

On a related topic:

If belching is a problem, and beer causes belching, shouldn't we ban beer in order to reduce greenhouse gases?

After all, is any sacrifice too great to save the planet?

Oh, and about beans...

Huuummm...export this to Norway? And to any location with lots of politicians?

Gather all the moose into a big domed structure.

When they release methane, have fans suck it up and into collection tanks.

Distribute the methane so people can use it to cook on and heat their houses and things.

Problem solved!

STILL causes global warming, though...

CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O. So every home would have a Collector over the stove which collects the CO2 and the water, combines it, and dispenses it as seltzer!

Problem solved.

And what amount of methane is produced by beef production? Should we consider beef as harmful as tobacco, and stop raising cattle?

No more beer, beans, or beef!

either change your behavior or the end of the world is coming.

The point is, it seems pretty certain that something not too far short of that is actually true. An inconvenient truth.

Nope- the CO2 still gets into the atmosphere, eventually.

Okay...the CO2 and the water are recombined to form CH4. The energy for this is supplied by the methane from the moose.

Or we could liquify the methane, mix it with lox, stand back, and watch what happens. I kinda like this solution, but then I also like train wrecks.

Rapaire, the only appropriate thing to mix with lox is cream cheese.

Has anyone told NASA about that? IF you keep it hush hush, we can avoid being beaten to our first Mars landing by those Israeli astronauts!!

Rap, I don't know any people who would apply for that job, fans of moose or not.
