(a Don Blanding poetry book was the highlight of last Christmas.) Also good fantasy (but not crap), cookbooks, English and American folkways, narrowboat art...I'm very eclectic, and my nose is frankly always in a book!

5. what books have you really been wanting? Anything written by you or another Mudcatter, a copy of Lift Every Voice and Sing (the alternate Episcopal hymnal)

6. what type of music do you like? Good heavens! There's so much: English music in general, trad or neotrad; early music; really good singer-songwriters who have a way with words; brass bands; old-time gospel and spirituals; traditional flamenco; French folk music; wonderful a cappella arrangements; June Tabor; sea music...

7. what CDs have you really been wanting? Mudcat CDs, Mudcatter CDs, Pete Coe, Rod Stradling and any number of other undersung (over here) English folkies whose music is hard to get over here in California

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify DVD or VHS) Well, hmmm. Rupert (Bear) adventures, but I don't think those are much available in U.S. (Region 1) DVD format, and that's all my machine can read.

9. what is your t-shirt size? I don't wear them -- but socks, on the other hand...

10. do you collect anything? if so, what? Music books (the parlor music kind or what-have-you), arts&crafts period housewares and furniture, various sorts of folkware, Rupert annuals, pretty rocks, wooden spoons, wind chimes, scarves, unusual and ethnic herbs & spices, or anything you've made

11. what are some of your other hobbies? cooking, gardening (I am gardenless just now but hope to fix that soon), road trips and camping, living quaintly and simply in a world that's largely forgotten how, raising an intelligent and sensitive son

12. do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Neither, really -- I have too much already -- but silver if you're so moved.

13. please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. I am getting to the age when I want to simplify my life -- so really it's friends I want, not things! If you could send something that helps me know you better, it will be deeply appreciated -- and my husband hates Christmas, so it will undoubtedly be the most exciting gift I get!

Volume 9 and later of the series "The Australians" by Vivian Stuart ("writing as William Stuart Long")

Ranging from Ossian via the likes of Nick Keir, Judy Small, McCalmans, Eric Bogle, Harvey Andrews, Martyn Wyndham-Read, Eleanor Shanley, Jed Marum, Seamus Kennedy, Kendall Morse et al to Runrig. Good singing-songwriting always welcome. Also ceilidh dance music ;-)

In England I've seen some useful DVDs with "full set" instructions for English ceilidh dances - video of the moves, descriptions of the moves and (as far as I recall) notes for the music, too - or instructions on how many bars and which sort of tunes at the very least. One such DVD would be greatly appreciated.
For CDs, anything by The Men They Couldn't Hang - I've got some older ones on LPs, but nothing on CD. Redgum - "Caught in the Act" on CD to replace my old vinyl. Kendall Morse, anything but "Lights Along the Shore" & "Beginner's Luck" (thanks Becca!) which I have.

Don't have a VCR.. Rarely watch movies.

I prefer Martin guitars to Gibsons. I've always wanted a Winchester caravan, and a Triumph Roadster. I like regional music, specific to where my Secret Santa might reside. I am fascinated by local history, local geography, local delicacies.I do not wear jewellery, possibly because nobody has ever given me any. I wear boots rather than shoes.I have spent a great deal of my life in boats, and in the Boat Band, so I wouldn't bother giving me a Boat Band Cd, I've got boxes of them.
I'm very easy to please. There is a limit imposed of £20 isn't there? But listen, shhhhh, mum's the word on this: I won't shop you to Max if you go over.

Just re-read my suggestions and I really sound pretty boring! I love old music books, old cook books. I play the hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer and celtic harp, and collect harp related items. I do a lot of reading, not much fiction. Bio's of interesting people and places are great. I love t-shirts from other countries/ Size L. 2 years ago we travelled to Ireland, and last year to Scotland. If my Santa were to be from one of those countries,, Just ANYTHING relating to your area would be magnificent. Loved the heather in Scotland. ANd the plaids. Oh Christmas is so exciting. This is like when I was a kid, making my list for Santa!!

Books: Have read all Terry Pratchett's and have a good collection of his Hard-back First Editions (apart from Discworld 1st & 2nd books - but they're nearly into 4 figures now so please don't worry about searching for them!!). Any science fantasy, dragons & wizzards, fiction, thrillers (have read almost all of Clive Cussler and Wilbur Smith, Alexander Kent, Carlos Castenada), crime etc. Second-hand is preferred, dogeared and with broken spines are perfectly acceptable, shows they're recommended!

Musical taste: Traditional Folk, a capella singing, contempory folk, female voice (anything that's good, stuff you've done, anything of Catters, ones with good songs to try).

Not into movies or DVD's - rarely get time in front of the TV.

Size: Large still, though I am working on it, honest.... I like chocolate, a lot.

Am accumulating an interesting collection of crafty earrings, pierced & dangly!!! Silver-tone seems to go best with my favourite colours. Seem to have accumulated stones from various places & beaches... Love Cats, Chocolate (a lot), gardening, plants & trees, secret gardens, interesting places, earth powers, intuition & friendship.

Allergies yes, mainly alkaline-forming foods (have never eaten fruit so that's a definite negative). Luckily there aren't many other negatives in my life apart from the food!

Happy to read any packing material too, as long as it isn't technical stuff that is!

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Used books are fine. Folktales and folklore, first and foremost. And in the broadest sense; local legends, saintlore, children's books and old recitation books. Oh yes, I've been trying to track down Japanese tales.

-------I answered a lot of this over in the SS messages thread. I like Classic Country music from the 1920s up until mid 1970s. Anything after 1980 really annoys me. However, I have a couple of Time-Life collections of classic country so that's really a non-starter. I love "Country-Rock" ala The Byrds Sweetheart of The Rodeo phase and all the groups that album spawned such as the Flying Burrito brothers and so on. But alas, I have so much of that too - hmmm - I mentioned in the other thread I could use Any Solo work by Chris Hillman. In another thread somehwere I menioned a fave song of mine by gene Clark and bernie Leadon called 'She Darked the Sun" and I don't have the Dillard & Clarke Album that its from so that would be really nifty. I lover very early Dan Fogelberg before pop radio got a hold of him - back when he was doing kinda spooky Laurel Canyon bluegrass meets midwestern boyhood memories type stuff. My fave album of his is Souvenirs, so much so I have 3 copies of it on CD! Joe Walsh produced it for him and it shows - that kinda sproingey guiatr of Walsh's shows up as does does classic Joe Walsh talking Guitar. This don't help does it? In the other thread I listed stuff I don't have - go there.

I also love to acquire heirloom garden seeds but this can be a problem if you are outside the USA due to customs and such. They might think that pack of Swede seeds are terrorist veg that will take over the countryside. In case you are in the USA - I love sunflowers that are other than yellow, Cosmos, Coreopsis and other multi-blooming flowers. My grandfather once smuggled some edelweiss seeds in for me in his diplomatic pouch! That was cool but is again, likely to be seen as a terrorist plot. Don't risk it.

--Gardening, cooking, caring for wildlife and feral kitty cats. I'm quite the serious cook.

---neither - the same hereditary condition that makes my teeth brittle and joints swollen also results in skin irritations so I rarely wear anything beyond my wedding set. I had pierced ears 3 times but let them close up because I was too lazy to keep earrings in. now the doc advises against punching holes in my skin since my body is likely to view it as an injury and grow ugly scar formations.

One overall suggestion is that I really like getting things from my Secret Santa's abode -- your music or that of your friends, local travel brochures, maps, rocks or shells, food -- even crumpled local newspapers used as packing material. (One of my prized possessions is Divine's obituary in Spanish that was in a crumpled newspaper protecting something I had mailordered.)
