Subject: BS: Thinking about women. From: GUEST,Peter Taylor Date: 29 Sep 07 - 07:41 PM How much time do you waste thinking about women ? I was listening to a programme on the radio this evening about the amount of time men think about women in the course of a day. It was staggering, men between 18 - 23 spent 4 hours a day thinking about women. Men between 23 and 40 spend 2 - 3 hours a day, and men over 40 were the worst, 4 1/2 - 5 hours a day ! Seems as we get older the worse we get. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Little Hawk Date: 29 Sep 07 - 07:49 PM Well, they comprise half of the human race. Whaddya want us to spend our time thinking about??? I also submit that they are worth far more than money, material goods, and the assorted political nonsense that people fight about all day...therefore they are worth spending some time thinking about. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Bee Date: 29 Sep 07 - 07:57 PM How does it go the other way? Speaking as one woman, although I do like men and am inordinately fond of my husband, I can't say I spend more than an hour or so a day thinking about even him, and most of that is practical rather than prurient. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Ebbie Date: 29 Sep 07 - 08:09 PM Hmmmm. I've never added up how many minutes or hours I spend thinking about any of them. Probably spend more time thinking about animals, come down to it. I do remember though in the days when I was in love (oh, gawd. spare me....), I spent a good share of each day and night thinking about him. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Rapparee Date: 29 Sep 07 - 08:13 PM Ah, well, my staff of 26 is composed of 24 women and two men, one of whom is myself. This makes it hard to think about work without thinking about women. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Sorcha Date: 29 Sep 07 - 08:31 PM I know for a fact that I spend a LOT more time thinking about the dogs than I do about 'men' or even my husband. Sheesh. We PAY people to find out this stuff? Where can I sign up? |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Sep 07 - 08:35 PM I suppose it depends what you're thinking. And what does it mean anyway - "thinking about women"? If I'm driving along and I think "I'd better not run over that lady on the Zebra crossing" does that count as "thinking about women? |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Bee Date: 29 Sep 07 - 08:39 PM Exactly, McGrath - what kinda thinkin' were they measuring? I might briefly think about Steven Harper once during a day - it ain't usually a good thought. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: catspaw49 Date: 29 Sep 07 - 08:46 PM How can anyone measure exactly how much time they spend thinking about anything? This kinda' shit is just that.....shit. Spaw.........who spends 6.6 seconds per day thinking about his 4th toe on his right foot while spending only 2.1 seconds giving consideration to the 3rd toe on his left foot. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Bobert Date: 29 Sep 07 - 08:50 PM Well, a blues-bud from Norway once said that the "blues is 99% about women and other natural disasters..." Well, I'm a bluesman so, yeah, I burn up my share of gray matter on 'um... I jus' try to figure them out and that's purdy much a full time job... There is a reason that older guys spend so much time thinkin' about 'um and that is that when we were younger we figurated that we had a long time to get them figured out and then we weren't so young anymore and so we figurated that we better get to work while we still could and thus... ...4 1/2 hours a day!!! Yup, I'm prolly a 4 and halfer myself but... ... I jus' have this feelin' that '08 will be the year where all the pieces fall together and I'll be ready to advance my theories about the womenz in a concise and organized manner, then agin... ...maybe it will be '09 but fir all men out there, I'm on the case and am making major progress... That's exactly what I told the P-Vine and then she said, "Ahhhhh, Bobert, you say that you are spending 4 and a half hours a day thinkin' about women... Like women is,ahhhh, plural... So other than me what other women are you thinking about???" Hmmmmmmm???? See what I mean... The sumabichs cheat all the time with trick questions.... Think I'll jus' go buy a new geetar... Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Stilly River Sage Date: 29 Sep 07 - 10:26 PM Well, as a woman who finally convinced an ardent suitor that she wasn't thinking about him all of the time (this after being peppered with email and phone calls all day long for many weeks), I think he was thinking about women/woman more than I was thinking about men/man. Make sense? SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Ebbie Date: 29 Sep 07 - 11:17 PM Seems likely. I remember a 70 year old friend told me once that he was improving- that in the 'old days' he thought about sex about 9/10ths of the time and now he thinks about it only about 3/4ths of the time. :) |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Amos Date: 29 Sep 07 - 11:50 PM And as the day ends, and the sits by the fire, He starts thinking 'bout women, and bottles of beer. And he leans back is head, as the dogies retire, And lets out a song, Which is soft, but its clear, Just as though someone could hear. I believe that thinking about people who are being female is an inherent natural part of the consciousness of a person who is being male. It comes most naturally, according to all the men I have heard opinions from over the years. A |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Sep 07 - 12:21 AM How much time people spend thinking about sex can depend on a lot of other factors....such as their age, the general situation around them, their family life, how busy they are with other matters (like work or survival), and so on, and so on. If you have a lot of spare time on your hands, you are more likely to think about sex, right? If you're a teenager who is longing to investigate the mysteries of the opposite gender, then you will probably spend a huge amount of time thinking about either sex or romance or both. I know I did. If you've been married for 25 years and you're busy with a career then you'll probably think about it a lot less...depending on the career, of course! (Hugh Hefner probably almost never stops thinking about sex...is he still alive?) What people are really driven to thinking about all that stuff for is the need to somehow to fill that sense of emptiness that keeps gnawing at them. They try and they try to fill it with sex, food, activities, entertainment, gossip, vendettas, arguing on internet forums, being obsessive about their dogs, their kids, their hairdo or whatever....but they never really succeed in filling the emptiness that drives them. And that, my friends, is what makes capitalism function so effectively. Absolutely deadly. ;-) And it's why advertisers use sex as much as they can to sell stuff too. It's true that men, on average, think more about sex in a sort of general literal way...but I think women, on average, think more about romance and relationship in a more specifically personal way, focusing on particular people they're hypothetically interested in...so there's the balance. And an awful lot of women love being matchmakers for other people. Very few men could be bothered doing that or would even think about it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Ebbie Date: 30 Sep 07 - 01:15 AM There was a time, Little Hawk, that I thought about opening a business with the specific purpose of bringing people together. I heard so much about 'There are no good men left out there; they're all re-treads or gay or mama's boys or 90 years old.' I heard similar views from men; their lament dealt mostly with the perceived fact that women don't want to settle down and commit themselves to one man. I gave up the idea. I decided that it would be a lose-lose proposition- every time something went wrong I'd get blamed! |

From: katlaughing Date: 30 Sep 07 - 01:20 AM Amos, we know how much time you spend thinking of Golden Globes!**bg** LH, you might be surprised at just how much and how many women think about sex without any of the romance stuff. After all, a good lay may be good for all involved. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Amos Date: 30 Sep 07 - 09:03 AM Another reason for thinking about such things is system decay. In same cases, it's a failure of eyesight, or hair loss or weight gain. In another, it's just memory failure. It's easy to forget why you never got laid much! :D A |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Rapparee Date: 30 Sep 07 - 09:17 AM Thinking about what? Sex? You mean like XX and XY chromosones? Or the Latin word for the number after five? There was something else, I seem to remember, but for the life of me.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Sep 07 - 12:27 PM Well, I'm glad to hear that, Kat. ;-) Ebbie, I think you were wise not to do that matchmaking business. You would most certainly have been blamed for the relationships that broke up afterward, and most of them do at some point. "'There are no good men left out there; they're all re-treads or gay or mama's boys or 90 years old.'" Oh! How nasty! Hey, c'mon now.... What's wrong with a "retread"? He's just someone with experience. Why is that bad? Gay men may not be interested in you (women) sexually, but by God they are great to talk to! And they appreciate style when they see it. Mama's boys need love too! (And they ain't gettin' it from Mama...) 90 year olds? Well, you can always make a quick escape from the old dears if they're bugging you, because they can't move very quickly. Let's look at the positive side for a change, I say. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thinking about women. From: JohnInKansas Date: 30 Sep 07 - 12:52 PM No identification of "a programme on the radio this evening" to give us a clue about the agenda of the "programme." "Interpreted" for us as: How much time do you waste thinking about women ? Thread started by a "GUEST." Classic signs of a troll. First Guess: GUEST,Richard Taylor thinks that guys should only think about guys. Some people are of this inclination, but it's not one commonly flaunted here. Second Guess: GUEST,Richard Taylor is one of those "nut cases" who recognized they were talking about "sex" and has been brainwashed to believe that anything relating to "sex" is immoral, obscene, and a waste of time. Fortunately for GUEST,Richard Taylor, he's posted here for about a year, and has about 30 legitimate (mostly) comments on serious subjects, so it's with considerable "relief" that I can conclude1 that he's(?) a "regular sort of guy" who's just a little clumsy at trying to be "funny." 1 And I hope I can conclude that he's been around long enough to see that I'm just "yanking his chain" to see if he'll bark. My own observation would be that any man who doesn't think about women (and about sex) at least a good part of each day likely doesn't have a good sense of what's important to his own survival. I think the hours quoted are somewhat inflated, however, since there's little evidence that the "average man" thinks at all for as much as four hours per day. (Fortunately, here, we're all a little above average?) John |
