Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: r.padgett Date: 01 Jul 08 - 02:08 PM I had a very accusatory phone call from one Keith Scowcroft wanting to know who our "secret weapon" was to be, that is not named as our missing singer from our Yorkshire army! Well wait and see!! Ray |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: Alio Date: 01 Jul 08 - 12:06 PM Just asked Hilary to check that we've got the trophy engraved from last year. Vin - yes, Bob Fox is booked for 2009, as are Eric Bogle and John Munro, the New Rope String Band, The Young 'Uns, Tony Downes, Hamish Currie and Zoe Mulford. Aeola - thanks for the comments about the line up. It's strange really. There's no way of telling if it's going to appeal to people until the tickets start to sell - and we've sold more in advance this year than ever before! More than last year which we thought was really special! Just had meetings with Civic and Police today, and working on the evaluations now. Wouldn't it be lovely if I could do this as a full time job and get paid for doing something I love?!!! Ali x |

Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: Pistachio Date: 28 Jun 08 - 10:59 AM Hi, 3 weeks away - and my poor motorhome will not be able to travel. Mr MOT says the battle bus is dead. Woe is me. I'll have to get down under canvas... not done that since I was in the Girl Guides!! On the lookout for 'new wheels'.Car for now as it'll take longer to find 'the right van' to fit down my driveway....and no, I'm not going to move house to make a larger van fit. It'll need to be 6'11" Max width for safety of both van and house bricks. Whatever, I (We'll) be there to fight the war!! Now on to car sales!! See you all soon. Hazel.xx |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: r.padgett Date: 28 Jun 08 - 03:35 AM Time for Lankky baiting now I reckon! We Yorkies want our rightful mitts on that Roses cup, pinched from us last year by skullduggery, bribery and collusion with that Cheshire lot!! Bring it on Scowie, Calderbank and the rest of your mottley crew!!** WAR of the ROSES will restart at Saddleworth ff that lovely Yorkshire town in the Pennine Hills Ray |

Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: Alio Date: 28 Apr 08 - 08:09 AM Tim - how can anyone stay away from Saddleworth that long? You'll have to come and see us at the festival - lot of changes but still beautiful, and nice people! We stay well away from any yuppies, us born-and-bred-here-folks! Eh, and it's never moved! I was born in Saddleworth and it says West Riding of Yorkshire on my birth certificate! So that makes me a Yorkshire lass, doesn't it? And I'm still here! Yes, it's the Moor and Coast tent on the campsite, Guest M & C - they also run the bar in the Civic hall, with real ale, including a Festival Ale. The Tory Club and Waggon are decent bars too. Not long now is it? I'm just sorting out artists for 2009 to go in the programme. And I've just been asked to do some MCing at Cleckheaton in the Town Hall, which should be brill! Hi Sue - how are you and the kids? Ali xx |

Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: GUEST,M&C Date: 15 Apr 08 - 11:41 AM "the camp site M & C tent" Would that be the Moor & Coast Food Tent Ray???? |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: r.padgett Date: 15 Apr 08 - 08:38 AM My usual food spots are the Take away, the cafe next door, the camp site M & C tent and the Civic hall! The Wagon pub, I think it is, also has a good attendance too on Saturdays Folk fest goers of course need food after the beer and hate normal dinner and tea time limits Failing that a chew on my T shirt and a bag of peanuts Ray |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: GUEST,glueman Date: 15 Apr 08 - 03:27 AM Living on the other side of the hill and an incomer anyway the sensitivities are all notional to me but the arrangement is an odd one. Watching the brass band festival and seeing a queue of Range Rovers and Mercs being held up (one of them containing a well known corrie actor) it's hard not to conclude Saddleworth is the Wilmslow of NW Manchester. The place is still decked out with white roses on yorkshire day. |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: mandotim Date: 15 Apr 08 - 03:14 AM True Guest Glueman, true. When I lived there the changes from Yorkshire to Greater Manchester were being proposed. There was talk of land mining the roads at Lees and Springhead... There was always a sense of 'summat for nowt' in those days. Saddleworth got all its services from Oldham, but paid its rates to Wakefield. Tell the truth, I went back briefly five years ago for a funeral. It all seemed a bit yuppified to me. The pub where I was on the dominos and darts team is now a high-end gastropub, people eating stuffed cabbage rather than playing cribbage. Hang on; unrestricted nostalgia; I may be turning into a folkie! AAAArrrgggHHH! Tim ;) |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: GUEST,glueman Date: 14 Apr 08 - 02:48 PM Especially as it's moved a whole county. |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: mandotim Date: 14 Apr 08 - 02:22 PM I'll be there. I'm Saddleworth born and bred, but haven't been back for 35 years. It's going to be weird. Tim |

Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: Alio Date: 11 Apr 08 - 07:33 PM Muppitz! how can you be so cruel?!!!!!!!!!!!!! Les, I've been trying to sort teatime meals out. There's a newish cafe in the village - Christy's - run by a friend of mine. Next month she'll get a licence, so it'll be a cafe bar. On the Friday they're hosting a session from 6p.m. as her husband is a fiddle player. But she's also opening from 9a.m. till 10p.m. every day over the festival weekend. Hope that helps? Aren't you sooooooooo impressed with me?!! Oh, and we've got around 65 events again this year! Ali |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: LesB Date: 11 Apr 08 - 06:53 PM "plenty of food spots" Ray. Where? That's the main trouble I have had at Saddleworth is getting a meal in the evening / teatime. The cafes are usually closing, the Indian hasn't opened yet & the only pub that serves good beer has a long wait for food. I wouldn't say there were plenty of food spots (only down the front of my tee shirt). Cheers Les |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: r.padgett Date: 11 Apr 08 - 01:16 PM Lovely friendly festival, tourist area welcome pub sessions organised and not and plenty of food spots! massive camp site 5 mins walk from the centre Oh and some good guests and other events! Ray |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: muppitz Date: 10 Apr 08 - 05:20 PM I doubt it! If there's one thng we can count on for Saddleworth FF, other than the great time had by all, it's the bloomin' rain!!! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: Pistachio Date: 10 Apr 08 - 03:35 PM Refresh Do you know it's only 14 weeks away? With the recent snowfall it seems like it's still winter but I'm sure the sun will be shining and 'Puddleworth 07' will be a distant memory. H.x |

Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: Alio Date: 19 Nov 07 - 04:21 PM Hi Bobcat. I'm still doing the Running Order for the committee so I'll work it in somehow. Muldoon's Picnic came this year, so it might be a couple of years before they're back again. Too many good performers around - that's the problem!! HIssyfit have just been on my radio programme doing an interview and singing live - they were brill! I'm really glad they're coming back to Saddleworth next year! Ali x |
Subject: RE: Saddleworth Folk Festival 2008 From: GUEST,bobcat Date: 17 Nov 07 - 01:06 PM Great line up .Lots of my favourite people. How about adding Muldoon's Picnic to your list of must have young people. They are a terrific and lively harmony group from Glasgow and we should see more of them down here. They run great workshops too.And what about the Young Uns from Hartlepool. They were at the Ingleton folk Festival Request: Please can there be more than one venue for singer's sessions..much too crowded last year and the year before. |
