Heck, I've probably allready asked this an, if so, sorry... But...

...I need to get hooked up in ther next few weeks... I can't go into winter (with more time for the pudder) with my dial-up... It sometimes has ony 4.5 kbps which ain't enough to evn open Mudcat, let alone post anything...

We don't have cable and out telephone company might not even know that high speed access even exists as it is perfectly willin' to sell folks a totally usless dial-up product...

I've been looking at SkyBlue but have an open mind...

Any suggestions (related to this topic)???

I have Qwest from my long distance provider, and it was about a 25 dollar per month upcharge. I'm very happy with it, B.

Go for a dish satellite link. You can get the equivalent of highspeed downlink and medium speed uplink which works out fine since most of your upward traffic is short requests, not files.

Is wireless, as opposed to satellite, available where you are? Where I am, both are available but satellite is way more expensive.

My daughter (inland British Columbia) is getting satellite- the only available choice in her area for highspeed. A proposal to string cable died because too few people indicated that they would subscribe- the largest population group is city folk in summer homes- they all have broadband at home, so deep-sixed the cable proposal.

Another daughter, also living in the bush*, has had satellite for a couple of years now and is quite satisfied with it (two satellite systems, one for internet and business, the other for TV).

Here in the city, the broadband cable also takes care of telephone and television, so one provider for all.

*bush- anywhere beyond walking distance to Starbucks.

Yeah, I've checked into Hughes Net... It's $10 a month more than...

Quest is not avilable... Cable is not available... There are no other telephone companies in my area so it comes down to sattilite... No other option...

Just which one???

Keep in mind that I live in the boonies... I mean it...

AT&T DSL services are available to area code 540 at $19.95 per month for the first 3 months, $39.95 per month thereafter.

Shoot....for maybe $7.5 million, you could probably get 'em to run you a special cable line.

(I hear there's not many performances of the Bolshoi Ballet down there, either....living in the boonies has some benefits.)

i have Wild Blue...thru the local company Got Sky
and i checked out a couple of others...when shopping
around...
Hughes Net i think is the former Directway
from Direct T.V.

and the other is star band.

if you have a view of the southern sky you can get these.
i got a good deal with Wild Blue/Got Sky and if you refer
anyone you get one month free...let me know if you want me
to refer you!'

If you have a satelite t.v. dish you probably can get internet
from a roof top satyellite too.

it does get sketchy reception in heavy storms but at 100 mbps
when the weather is clear!

Here in Botetourt County VA, we use Hughes Net (formerly Directway) and have had good results - rarely knocked out by weather and (when bundled with satellite TV) , not that expensive.

Make sure your rig is modern enough to take the AT&T gizmo, Bobertz. I'm still using windows 98 and it doesn't seem to have enough something or other to handle the Bell south high speed, so I'm still stuck in the slow lane.

Slow lane, Tweezer??? I'd take that... Most of the time I'm stuck in the "stop lane"... 4.7 kbp's is equivalent to the energy it take for a flea to sneeze...

I gonna check out AT&T but prolly go with WildBlue... Reminds me of WildBill"s Juke Joint with them big ass bottles of beer and them buzzard wings... Kinda rools off yer tongue...
