Subject: BS: No Music Day~Nov.21 From: Tweed Date: 21 Nov 07 - 11:01 AM Today, is no music day in Scotland. BBC Scotland will broadcast no music all day. I've placed this in the BS section, this being a non-music thread and all.. No Music Day 2007 Tweed |

Subject: RE: BS: No Music Day~Nov.21 From: GUEST,Ian cookieless Date: 21 Nov 07 - 11:30 AM The website says, "No Music Day has nothing to sell. There is no mission statement." It doesn't seem to be about anything, so what's the point? |

Subject: RE: BS: No Music Day~Nov.21 From: katlaughing Date: 21 Nov 07 - 11:31 AM Thanks. Seems kind of stupid to me UNLESS he uses it to emphasize how important music can be. I have a lovely old print of St. Cecilia...I'll have to ask her what she thinks.*bg* |

Subject: RE: BS: No Music Day~Nov.21 From: Tweed Date: 21 Nov 07 - 11:37 AM They had him on NPR yesterday and I got intrigued, Kat. He said he came up with the idea after listening to ipods etc. day in and day out and figgered he'd try to get through one day without music. This was a couple years ago and apparently it's excalated and BBC Scotland is going for a whole day of no music. Does the BBC run commercials like US stations? |

Subject: RE: BS: No Music Day~Nov.21 From: katlaughing Date: 21 Nov 07 - 12:04 PM Ah, I can understand that, Tweed. I don't get the ipod thing. If I have music on, I want it to fill the air AND I don't want my ears plugged by anything all day. I guess that's one reason why I never wound up with a walkman on my belt everyday, too. Sure they have their uses, place, and times, but not to the exclusion of all else. At least when I tune in and drop out it isn't such an isolated thing.:-) |

Subject: RE: BS: No Music Day~Nov.21 From: TheSnail Date: 22 Nov 07 - 07:27 PM Ernest The Scottish people were given the choice between no-music-day and no-whisky-day. There's a tune by Neil Gow called Farewell to Whisky. Is there a whisky called Farewell to Music? |

Subject: RE: BS: No Music Day~Nov.21 From: katlaughing Date: 23 Nov 07 - 02:33 PM On the other hand I wonder if one can go too far? I saw an ad for a picture frame in which one may load their digital photos. It displays them in whatever way you tell it to, but wait! There's more! You can program music to play along with your photo montage, plus it comes with a remote control! No more walking over to pick up a heavy old photo album, getting nice and cozy to show it off to your friends and family! THIS is what it comes with: • Built-in speakers, clock and calendar • Black finish wood frame • Plays back JPEG pictures,MP3 music and MPG Videos • Supports SD, XD, Memory Stick and Multimedia memory cards I don't know about you all, but if I want to watch a movie, video, dvd, etc. I already have the means to do so (maybe not in such a portable venue, but still!) Also, if I was going to an office and wanted to display pix why would I want music playing with them all day? It would be rude in some situations and annoying. Give me silent pix anyday! AArrgghh...rant over.:-) |

(What it's like in their head I don't wish to imagine!). My main gripe is the 'phone connection freaks who have to hold running commentaries, by mobile, on how far they still are from home ... but that seems to be mainly on the afternoon buses ... and I normally walk the 6 km home ... along the quietest streets and back lanes, by preference! Regards, Bob |

Subject: RE: BS: No Music Day~Nov.21 From: katlaughing Date: 26 Nov 07 - 02:00 PM G'day, Bobdarlin'. I hadn't thought of that as our public transport leaves MUCH to be desired, so I am in a car all of the time when going somewhere. I can certainly understand how nice it would be to NOT have others' music intruding on my space and I know what you mean about the bass being turned up. They do that in the cars here to where 2-3 cars behind can feel their windows rattle! The phone thing really drives me nuts, too, but mostly when people are driving and talking on them. I reminded my daughter back East, the other day, that a phone is a convenience and it is NOT imperative that she answer it 24/7! I like them for emergencies and to reach my Rog when he's at the grocery store, though.:-) Beer/Adrien, maybe that's my problem. I catch myself humming or whistling throughout the day...:-o |
