Me, him and his dad (who normally lives with us anyway) and the cat. His dad is just out of hospital and is driving us both up the wall ... *muttering to self ... must try to be more sympathetic ... must try to be more sympathetic ....*
For Christmas Day we'll also have my parents, so we'll feel young and frisky by comparison.

My mum just for the day. As there is just me, husband and son, we always had both our parents over for the day, but over time we've lost them so its only my mom now. Two years back we lost my dad and husbands mom in the same summer. That christmas day was truly awful.
But hey, moms 84 and just back from a trip to Oz with load of funny stories to tell, so it should be a lovely day.

Holidays start for me tomorrow in Dallas for me and I really do need to start shopping soon. For Christmas we'll have Mom, my son, my daughter (nicknamed "Sister") and her husband, my sister and family, and anyone else who shows up.

After Christmas Mom, and Sister (my daughter not my sister) and husband will head to Shreveport, while my son and sister (my sister, not my daughter) and her family all go to Houston.

After a day in Shreveport we'll head to Baton Rouge with a Mom, my brother and his wife -- who we'll hook up with in Shreveport -- while Sister (the daughter) and her husband head for Ohio. We may visit the West Bank in New Orleans after dropping off Mom. Don't know about that yet.

Greet the new year in Baton Rouge then on to Houston. Head back to Dallas with my sister (not my daughter) on the 1st. Return to work on the 2nd fully rested after a relaxing holiday.

The daughter who lives in San Antonio is coming up - along with her husband, his brother and his daughter. Latter three are from Panama. They encountered snow for the first time when they were here last year and are hoping for a rerun. Son-in-law is a granite mason (if that is the right term), and herself's new kitchen counters are coming up on the back of his truck on Sunday - how's that for a Christmas Eve project?

a little thread drift but hey! - it's Christmas

The local carol singers paid a visit tonight. Two dozen of them around the front door and spilling over into the narrow lane their lanterns and torches making the frost glisten.

Fortunately no lonely passing vehicle attempted to disturb a spirited rendering of The First Noel!

After many years of family 'duty' we will be spending Christmas day mercifully 'a deux' but on St Stephens day will be bearing wine and food hither to a feast with Japanese, Somali and ex Lancs friends exiled in Yorkshire :)

Christmas this year is a moveable feast; my father-in-law is ill and can't walk, so we are taking the feast and the family to him, rather than the usual huge family gathering at our house. Then boxing day at my sister's place in Notts. One non-family guest this year, Tim from Oz, my eldest daughter's boyfriend who is staying with us for a while. I gave him a mandolin to try (he's a good rock guitarist). Little bugger could play complicated reels and some bluegrass stuff up to full speed 48 hours later! I'm trying to steer him away from the banjo....for his own good!
Have a great Christmas one and all, and hopefully we'll meet in the New Year
Tim

Snow you ask??? Oh, we've got Freakin' snow here in Maine.
As for Christmas guests, my sister Debra hosts christmas dinner every year so we will all be gathering there. The usual crowd, Sister and Brother-in-law, Dad, other sister and her significant other, both nephews, niece and her husband and myself. Brother-in-law's brother and best friend may come, too.

However, the dogs go to a kennel because not everyone can handle the alergens in confined spaces for that long. Too bad, we really miss them, even for 3 days.

We won't have the daughters' boyfriends this year either as they have their own family commitments, but it's okay with us to share them.

Peace, Mooh.

Why do women in shops who stand at make-up counters have to wear half of their stock ? Christ I was in town today and saw two beautiful young ladies and a rough old tart standing at a make-up stand, it was caked on their faces, sad to see such beautiful faces covered in shite ( well the two younger ones amnyway) the old tiger needed more than a bit of slap !

We will have four generations round the table for lunch on the 25th - Great grandmama (me mother-in-law - oh, joy . . . ); Erica and I ; our daughter and son-in-law, and the two lovely grandsons.

If we don't get chance to say it later - Good Yule to all, whether on the Path or no.

Wise and Blessed Be.

Gets it over and done with I suppose.... and a lot of folks around here put their Christmas house lights up last weekend... one house has its tree in the window already but the worst offender is the house over the back that's had lights in the window and a 'Santa stop here' sign out on show since before Hallowe'en.

Disgusting, that's what I call it.. because the same house that's been lit up since Hallowe'en will have its' tree out on the kerb as trash on Boxing day.

Last year, being the first without Ian, and with my son in New Zealand, my older daughter and her husband still came over for the usual after breakfast present ritual with me and Ruth. The possible poignancy of this was cut short by her remembering (it being the first one she'd cooked) that she had just put the turkey in with the giblets still in the neck. Cue mad dash over there to sort it out. We had just about got into the present business again, when Alex skyped from the other side of the world, and it all became a bit of a rush after that, as we were going over to my daughter's and meeting up with her in-laws for the meal.
In the evening, they came round again and we had neighbours round to play stupid board games, and much was drunk.

This year is an odd one. Alex is still in NZ (with Adebisi and my little granddaughter), but my older daughter has her first baby due on 11th December, so I am planning to cook a meal here, and just go over to visit and bring presents, perhaps later in the afternoon. However, I still don't know if it will be just me and Ruth at home, or her boyfriend as well.

Next year I hope to go to NZ and I won't probably bother putting a tree up, as I will go mid-December, and come back probably just around New Year.

Andrea

This year we'll be spending xmas in bonny Scotland with my parents. We're hoping my brother will be home on leave so he can get to meet his new niece and nephew, and play rough and tumble with Harry. Yule will be spent in our woodland, having a walk, taking in the atmosphere, a bonfire and a meal followed by a private ritual.

Speaking of Christmas lights, it appears that my psyche is evolving! I am not big on the season at all but this year, for the first time in years, I am living in the midst of town among shops and pubs and bookstores and art galleries. I am planning to take simple pleasure in what I can.

I really like some of the lights the stores are installing. The local fudge shop, for instance, has a dense cascade of tiny white lights hanging over the sidewalk (pavement). I am anticipating seeing them against the imminent snow.

Not far away, a shared entrance to a postal station, art gallery and a Native Alaskan artifact gift shop is a-drip with tiny dark blue lights the colo(u)r of a winter's night sky.

So far it looks as if Tom and I will be on our own for Christmas.

The season will start with Dec. 15th, our "Other Anniversary" (we have our wedding anniversary on June 26th and our "Other Anniversary" on Dec. 15th, the double anniversary of when we met and a year later when , while celebrating having known each other for a year, we decided to get married) when we trim the tree and eat good things and drink champagne.

This year, unlike last year when I broke my arm in December, I intend to celebrate the hell out of Christmas. (Anything is better than the almost nothing of last year!)

I've still got to clear the boxes of decluttered stuff out of the living room before we can put up a tree. And I'm working retail, so I don't have a lot of time off for the holiday. But I just know it will be better than last year.

We might still find someone to share Christmas dinner with -- or maybe dessert at our place or one of our friends'. Tradition is to take in strays -- but I'm not yet sure of who will be "stray" this year!

Linn

Hopefully I will get the christmas I like, that means very few celebrations, hardly any money spent and a trip to Devon on boxing day.

I really don't like Christmas at all.
