Subject: BS: source of 'Let's put on our own show!' From: clueless don Date: 12 Feb 08 - 08:52 AM I have a popular culture question: In what movie (or was it more than one?) did a group of teenagers say "Let's put on our own show! We've got everything we need!" I have impressions that this may have had something to do with "Andy Hardy", and may have involved Mickey Rooney and/or Judy Garland. But these impressions are not the same thing as actual knowledge. Google was no help. Don |

From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 Feb 08 - 10:07 AM So far as films go it was indeed a staple plot device in the Andy Hardy series, but in books I'd say Jane Austin's Mansfield Park may have been the first time it happened. (Didn't work out too well though...) |

Subject: RE: BS: source of 'Let's put on our own show!' From: Amos Date: 12 Feb 08 - 11:11 PM It was definitely the very young Mickey Rooney, as Andy Hardy. Our Gang also did put on some shows, but that line was pure Andy. IF memory serves, of course. A |

Subject: RE: BS: source of 'Let's put on our own show!' From: clueless don Date: 13 Feb 08 - 09:42 AM So: It might be from "Babes in Arms", it might be from one or more of the "Andy Hardy" series, and it was also picked up by the Little Rascals. Maybe. Thank you to everyone who responded! Don |
