Subject: RE: BS: There's hope here From: GUEST,Chicken Charlie Date: 27 Feb 08 - 10:51 AM I'm cynically thinking along the same lines as Amos, but probably worse. I hope all the scholars who work on this project have their life insurance paid up. Short term, I expect another round of violence directed their way. Long term, I can't get too excited. Those who, like the many secular-minded Turks who evidently supported the idea to start with, are open to rational analysis will accept this, but the radicals--?? I doubt that they are open to this sort of re-thinking. Bottom line: Those who will accept it don't need it, and those who need it won't accept it. The Reformation preachers may have convinced a handful of people, but I think by and large, they just gave folks a rationalization for doing what they wanted to do anyway, without the scriptural arguments. Subject: RE: BS: There's hope here From: Amos Date: 26 Feb 08 - 12:31 PM This is awesome. It would be very sweet if the Turks have the foresight to plan out the injection of their "new" ancient wisdom in a way that will not produce tectonic collisions and explosions and killings; it is a tricky PR challenge, for sure. But if enough copies were made in plain Arabic so that people could look these things up for themselves, and quietly made available in train stations, cafes, hotels, etc. it is possible it would permeate the middle Easty before a huge backlash could occur.
