Thank you soooo much for all the messages.I'm sorry I've been away from the machine and not thanked you sooner. Verity was allowed home on Friday and awaits CT scan results. She's gone back to work!!! (not my idea) but came home early today (5th)- very tired and a bit warm. Off to the Doc in the morning.
She is a little underweight and was given protein drinks and instructions to gain weight!
- It seems that's something I can do more readily than her (!) shame she can't relieve me of a few pounds!-

Suffice to say I'll post again if there's a need for your Hugs and thoughts - it is heartwarming to know of the care out there.

Love to Verity too, hope the meds get to the root of her problem soon.
As you can see Tam (Moo) is feeling better and found her way into the 'cat'
During a laproscopy they blow air into the abdominal area and it takes time to disperse..........the air can cause pain when it presses on your diaphragm. This pain and the pain from the op however are the only pain - she has ditched the pain she went in with and is no longer feeling sick. she managed a little soup and some jelly this afternoon and I helped her have a bath and wash her hair, so she feels a little more human.
A relieved and happier mum I am this evening.

Lucy I am thankful they caught that and you held their feet to the fire.....Now you and da' Kid BOTH need to rest up!

Hazel....Take heart....Sometimes this stuff can be very difficult to discover. Some older 'Catters will recall back in '99 when I went through something similar. Immediately after leaving the hospital after an aortic dissecting aneurysm, I went back in because I was bleeding through the bowel. I was out of it and sicker than hell. My GP was worried that I was going down so fast........It took a boatload of tests and 3 days to isolate the problem. Its not always easy, but note that I'm still here.

And you have lots of 'Catters sending good vibes and I KNOW that works.......like I said, here I am!

Thanks for your messages. Docs decided it wasn't her appendix so Verity will have more tests tomorrow (and has enjoyed eating tonight) She went nearly 36 hours nil by mouth with one meal break late last night when the operating 'list' closed. I began to wonder if the 'starvation' was one of their tests?
Whatever, she's hoping to be home tomorrow so I'll go and freshen up her room.

hi all. thanks for your really kind words. im still in hospital but iv got a bedside compputer. im feeling a bit groggy and very bloated. other than that the pain is gone. mum told me to read this as she said it would cheer me up. its got me smiling again :) thanks mum! im coming home tomorrow. YAY! i would try and get to sleep but the nurses wont turn the lights off! anyway, thanks again for your kind words.

I've only just seen this thread and am waiting for news as my (nearly)22 yr old was admitted in severe pain yesterday and was starved today in readiness for a laparoscopic investigation due sometime this evening!The first scan showed appendix to be OK but then 'they' couldn't agree on what else it might be so back to the appendix tonight. Interesting that two 'catter' daughters are in the same boat. Verity had lost weight, pain put her off her food. She was prescribed protein drinks and put on a drip...,but as we left her tonight she was soooo hungry, yet delighted that when in recovery she's been advised to eat high protein and 'fatty' foods to assist with weight gain.

I do hope that Tamsyn is feeling much better very soon and Lucy, don't forget to look after yourself too! I'm off to bed now. Last night's earthquake shook us awake and Verity said the whole hospital was swaying! It's a 12 floor structure about 20 miles from the epicentre !! Eeek!

Elevated WBC, fever, even pain can be absent and you can still have an inflamed (i.e., infected) appendix. If there's any doubt, take it out -- peritonitis isn't something to fool around with.

Sometimes the only way to know is to go in and look, which is what they did. I'm glad it's working out okay.

I don't think the absence of an elevated White Blood Count in itself rules out an inflamed appendix. It could be in indication that it's not on the point of perforating, and that an operation to remove it might not be needed.

A good few years ago my wife got this pain on her right side. "Not your appendix", said the GP - "constipation." Less than 24 hours and she was on the operating table having her appendix removed...

As PA said, sometimes you have to be pretty firm with doctors. I hope there'll be good news soon, and she'll be back home being fussed over.

Just got back from hospital. They decided to take her down to theatre for a laproscopy at 6 pm this evening after starving her since this morning, they had a good look round and said her ovaries and other bits looked OK but that the appendix was a bit 'sticky' at the back, whatever that means! he said it looked like it had been infected and was almost recovered, but felt that it could well flare up again as it was 'sticky' (I really dont know what he meant) and that they had removed it to prevent any infection spreading and possibly causing sterility etc as there are so many other organs in a young womans pelvic area that could be affected. She arrived back on the ward at 9pm, they performed it all with keyhole surgery so she will have minimal scarring and she was very woozy and in pain, but coherent enough to demand a kiss from her boyfriend before we went home - her lovely boyfriend sat and patiently waited for her to return to the ward with me all evening, bless him! We left her to sleep off the anasthetic and I'll be back tomorrow when hopefully she'll be feeling a little better. Ill keep you posted.

I know they have a crappie job to do but sometimes you have to get tough with them. When my mom was 80 she had a fall and needed 28 stitches in her forehead. After they had done them they said she was OK to go home. Was she hell! I insisted she stayed in over night, they eventually agreed but only after my brother, my husband and I refused to take her home and refused to move from A & E until they admitted her.

That's certainly what it sounds like to me, too. My son had a burst appendix when he was 15 or 16. We thought he had a bad case of the flu. When I finally got him to hospital, they wasted no time in getting him to surgery. He was pumped full of antibiotics for quite awhile after, it had been such a mess. I am sure the medical folks where Tamsyn is don't want to see that happen. May they fully open their eyes and minds and find out, for sure, what it is, today.

Im pretty sure its appendix too but they seem absolutely reluctant to cut her open and find out - apparently as she has not been sick they are dismissing it out of hand! (I did think that the morphine they gave her last night may make her sick but it didn't! - she will do ANYTHING not to be sick!) spoke to her on phone this morning still in pain and want her mum! (She's 17)

How's her urinary tract? Sounds as if they ruled out a lot of the usually suspects. If you have access, you might find something on this site helpful. I have not looked through all of it.

Have they done a WBC? An elevated white count could indicate appendicitis -- but that should have been the first thing they thought of.

Hi, Not BS to me! Not about on 'cat at moment as spending time visitng Tamsyn in hospital! severe abdominal pain on right hand side, with no obvious cause is about all I can tell you, but there is nothing more frustrating than watching your child writhe about in agony and the medics refusing to do surgery and just apparently standing around scratching their heads! An ultrasound scan and a CT scan have so far drawn a blank. Tonight she was in so much pain they gave her morphine!
