Subject: RE: thought for the Day (May 14) From: Date: 14 May 99 - 08:30 PM Interesting, Peter. The first time I read it I heard "Women never look so wonderful as when one (a woman) comes in wet and dirty from hunting." Which got a great big HUH? from me. (Hunting WHAT?) Then I realized it was "Women never look so wonderful as when one(a guy) comes(back from being out with the guys) wet and dirty from hunting." I still don't like it. Blessings anyway, Barbara |

Subject: RE: thought for the Day (May 14) From: Helen Date: 14 May 99 - 08:37 PM Peter, I don't like it either. The connotations are that the woman is standing there with all the comforts of home arranged: a hot bath, a drink, a hot meal, some congratulatory or soothing words etc etc If that's the only way a man can appreciate a woman, well...sorry, we're too busy getting a life of our own. (Note: I'm not feeling mad, or mean about this - just in the mood to discuss it from an objective standpoint) Regards Helen |

Subject: RE: thought for the Day (May 14) From: LEJ Date: 14 May 99 - 08:45 PM Peter... I guess I took it differently than the ladies above. I pictured this male lion lounging under a tree on the savannah, and here comes his mate, dragging an antelope carcass and he says to himself "DAMN she's GOOD. UMMMMM UM." LEoJ |

Subject: RE: thought for the Day (May 14) From: katlaughing Date: 14 May 99 - 09:05 PM Well, I took it to mean when the woman came in from hunting, too, which I don't care for because I don't like hunting; but, now that I've read the other responses, I can just see the dutiful, voluptuous woman waiting with smoking jacket, etc. And, reading it in my book of quotes, along with others of his, I can see my first interpretation was wrong. Pooh! Here's one for you: "It is very strange, and very melancholy, that the paucity of human pleasures should persuade us ever to call hunting one of them." Samuel Johnson katlaughing |
