Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: Chris Coville Date: 07 Jul 13 - 05:56 PM This is what my fellow singer and I heard from the LIVE version with your help. What we hear different is written in capitals. Thanks a million! When sweet AIRS they do arise And you hear the sounds of butterflies Or the spirit of some crimson rose Or the echo of that sea sand shore It is the hour I leave this place Made fair by you but you alone So here's Godspeed one last embrace Way down below them stepping stones And in THE stream long leaf flowers weep Way down beyond ONE TRODDEN strand Like between THE rainbow and the sun My boat sets seaward from the land And love may come and love may go Just like that bird from tree to tree But when she sleeps OUR heart I know Will wander with BEYOND the sea "A stor mo chroi" is a very fine song as well, Jim ;) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: GUEST,Wolfgang Date: 07 May 13 - 05:02 PM How much more easy it is to listen to an already transcribed song than to do the transcription from scratch. Thanks, Kenny. I have that song on tape and don't know from where I copied it. I also hear "days", "crimson", and "sea sand shore". ??? could be "golden" but that's more a guess from the possible sense than from what I actually hear. What I hear might just as well be "goddamned". Three words I hear very slightly different. I have them in boldface below: When sweet days they do arise And you hear the sounds of butterflies Or the spirit of some crimson rose Or the echo of that sea sand shore It is the hour I leave this place Made fair by you but you alone So here's Godspeed one last embrace Way down below them stepping stones. And in that stream long leaf flowers weep Way down beyond that golden(?) strand Like between a rainbow and the sun My boat sets seaward from the land And love may come and love may go Just like that bird from tree to tree But when she sleeps, her heart I know Will wander with me on the sea. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: GUEST,kenny Date: 06 May 13 - 11:49 AM Very difficult to make out some of the lyrics, but maybe someone else can fill in the gaps. The tune is traditional - I'm sure I've heard the late Michael O'Dhomhnaill [RIP] sing a song in Gaelic to the same melody, either with the "Bothy Band" or when he was in a duo with Kevin Burke. I'll try to track that down. The Polydor record label credits words to "E,Furey, D.Arthur". "Emigrant" "When sweet [ days ? ] they do arise And you hear that sounds of butterflies Or the spirit of some [ crimson ?] rose Or the echo of that [ sea sand shore ? ] It is the hour I leave this place Made fair by you and you alone So here's Godspeed one last embrace Way down below them stepping stones. And in that stream long leaf flowers weep Way down below that [ ??? ] strand Like between a rainbow and the sun My boat sets seaward from the land And love may come and love may go Just like that bird from tree to tree But when she sleeps, her heart I know Will wander with me on the sea" |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: GUEST,kenny Date: 06 May 13 - 04:29 AM Unsurprisingly, it's on the LP record titled "The Emigrant" which I've been "digitising". I'll post you the lyrics later today. Would it not be on the Fureys website ? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: Wolfgang Date: 05 May 13 - 08:20 AM It has English words and it is the next one on my "attempt to transcribe" list. It will not be easy but a search with some easier to understand phrases brought up nothing in the web. Look here in about two weeks. You'll either find a decent transcription with some mistakes left or a text fragment full of gaps. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: Jim Dixon Date: 04 May 13 - 09:14 AM THE EMIGRANT, performed by Davey Arthur & Co., on "Celtic Side Saddle" can be heard on Spotify. All the words I heard sounded like Gaelic to me, therefore I can't transcribe them. (I did, however, recognize the phrase "asthore machree"—however you spell that—familiar only because it appears in so many Irish songs.) Do we know for certain that it has English words? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: Chris Coville Date: 03 May 13 - 10:52 AM Sorry about the delay! ;) Bru, the mp3 would be highly welcome! Yes, Jim. This is probably the song. I found a Gaelic version on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt217pcSD5c) sung by Davey but am still searching for the English words to it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: GUEST,lucas Date: 04 Jan 12 - 07:06 PM i am also searching it..can somebody help me please? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 Mar 08 - 01:55 PM According to Allmusic.com, Davey Arthur wrote a song called THE EMIGRANT. It is on the album by "Davey Arthur & Co." called "Celtic Side Saddle," 1994. The brief sound sample provided at Allmusic contains no lyrics, only synthesizer music. Is this the right song? |

Subject: Lyr Req: Emigrant(s) by the Fureys From: Chris Coville Date: 14 Mar 08 - 02:12 AM Hi Folks! Does anybody know where to find the lyrics of the song "Emigrant(s)"? Eddie Furey sang it accompanied by his brothers and Davey Arthur in the late 70's at the WDR Folk Fest in Cologne, Germany. Thanks in advance! |
