Subject: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: skipy Date: 07 Apr 08 - 05:25 PM Here is a chance to list 3 members of the cat that you would like to meet or have been able to meet & why. For me they are (& in the best tradition of TV shows , not in a particular order) Scrump, rest his soul, because I loved his wit & his humour. Megan L because she SOO misunderstands me. Dave polshaw because I truly believe that we have so much in common! & we could disagree on other things without a problem! Skipy |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Bill D Date: 07 Apr 08 - 07:06 PM I have a list of 15 or 20...even after meeting 150 or so thru the Getaway and a couple of special trips. And I KNOW that there's many more I'd enjoy meeting. This is a lot like "Your favorite song...or food..." lists. Except you can't insult a food by leaving it out. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Little Hawk Date: 07 Apr 08 - 07:08 PM Oh, good. I normally leave anchovies out of my list of toppings, and I would not want them to feel insulted, goodness knows! |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: John Hardly Date: 07 Apr 08 - 08:22 PM Assuming not "re-meeting", it's pretty easy and not based on who'd necessarily want to meet me. 1. JohnInKansas. because, as I understand it he attends the Winfield festival every year and I want to go there some day. 2. Mooh and MTed. because I figure I'd be most interested in what they had to play. |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Mooh Date: 07 Apr 08 - 09:28 PM Thanks John, likewise. I'd rather pick three people who I wish were Mudcatters, or has that been a thread too? Neil Young, Bob Dylan, William Shatner. I've had the pleasure of meeting several 'Catters and one has even bought a place nearby! Life before this place was so much more dull. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: theleveller Date: 08 Apr 08 - 11:39 AM I've already met a few of the Beverley crowd whilst in a state of inebriation (me, not them .....I think)and Ray Padgett. I'd like to meet Emma B 'cos she sounds like a really nice person and Richard Bridge because we could shout at each other without getting offended and Banjiman when I finally get round to visiting his club, which I promise to in the not too distant future. Lots more, but I'm only allowed 3. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Apr 08 - 12:12 PM I'd say that I would like to meet Shane...but the truth is I have already met far too many people similar to Shane in this lifetime. They're everywhere. If you want to attract them, just put up some signs around the area with arrows and underneath the arrow: "Free Beer!" They will come straight to you. And in a remarkably short time too. They will be, like, majerly pissed when they find out that you don't, like, have any free beer for them, eh? That's when the real fun will begin. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 08 Apr 08 - 12:13 PM I would like to meet Ebbie, Sandra in Sidney, and Giok. Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Rapparee Date: 08 Apr 08 - 01:31 PM Now that I think about it I've met more than three Mudcatters. I've actually met four. Maybe I'll meet some more. Maybe some have seen me and decided not to introduce themselves. Whenever I go somewhere, even to the bathroom, I wear a hat that says "I AM RAPAIRE!! ARE YOU ON MUDCAT TOO?" that sticks way up above my head and the letters flash on and off. And to help others find me I always dress as a banjo with a catfish coming out of it. And yet, nobody introduces themself.... |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Apr 08 - 01:34 PM I bet they do talk about you a lot among themselves, though. When you're not looking. |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: PoppaGator Date: 08 Apr 08 - 01:43 PM Coincidentally, three is the number of Mudcatters I've met in real life ~ no more, no less. (There are several others with whom I've communicated about planned trips to my hometown, New Orleans, but for various reasons we never connected.) It certainly shouldn't hurt anyone's feelings to list the three individuals I happen to have encountered in the 3D world. So, here goes, in chronological order: Jed Marum, a fine performer and a great guy. I attended his gig at the now-defunct O'Flaherty's Pub in the French Quarter, struck up a conversation, and came to see him on another occasion or two. (That first meeting was during a week-long stay at O'F's, allowing multiple visits, and I think I also caught his act in the same venue on a later trip.) Ernest (not his real first name) from Berlin, during his vacation trip to N.O. Among other things that occurred during his visit, he took a photo of my wife and I that is Peggy's favorite picture ever of herself. Tinker, who lent me her guitar for about a month during those dark days right after Katrina. I had left my own instrument on my bed when we evacuated from New Orleans (expecting to return in 2-3-days), and wound up living "in exile" with my mom in New Jersey. When I posted a plea here for a guitar to play, Tinker responded and, since she lives only 15-20 minutes from where I was staying, I gladly took her up on her offer. Picking up and returning her nice little Washburn gave me two opportunities to visit her wonderful big old house and meet most of her wonderful big family, and I learned that she has served for years as a one-women welcoming committee for Mudcatters flying into Newark/New York from across the pond. |

WYSYWIG/Susan...She's cool. Art Thieme...For stories. Catspaw...'Cause he's Spaw. Oh, is that more than three? Oops. Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Genie Date: 08 Apr 08 - 01:52 PM 'Course, one Mudcatter I'd be in awe if I met would be Masato! He's either a walking encyclopedia or just the fastest googler in the world! |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: GUEST,Dani Date: 08 Apr 08 - 02:36 PM Yeah, 'dark night' and 'dark alley' aren't the same people, are they ?! I've met manymany by now, but don't get to see them often enough. I can't say Janie and I get SICK of each other, but.... What I want is for those of you I haven't met to somehow make it to Getaway! Let's have a scavenger hunt; make maps of mudcatters and tick 'em off: ones I've seen and hugged, ones I've sung with, ones I think I was separated at birth from, ones I've learned songs from.... if we started lists like this, we'd all start writing fat checks to Max again : ) Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Apr 08 - 02:40 PM Yeah, gnu! Man, I am dyin' to meet Dale and Johnny. Just dyin'! I bet I could learn like, at least maybe one or two new things from them, eh? At least one or two. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Rapparee Date: 08 Apr 08 - 02:50 PM Well, I'm a famous person but I hide under layers and layers of identities to throw you all off track. But now the truth can come out: I'm really George W. Bush. The guy in the White House is really some bum I met who was panhandling on the street in Dallas a long time ago. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: gnu Date: 08 Apr 08 - 02:55 PM Oh, LH... you could learn a lot from them thar lads, but, I dunno if ya REALLY wanna. When they get onner good, they sometimes scare me. Finally... Rap... now we know... the rest of the story. |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Bert Date: 08 Apr 08 - 09:15 PM Well I'll go first with Cool Beans' answer as the best yet. Then there's Mooh who wants to meet Rick. I know I've already met him, but I need to meet him again 'cos the bugger owes me a guitar lesson. (and nobody needs it more than me.) But I also want to meet Peace and Azizi and Amos ('cos I keep singing his song), and skipy 'cos he started all this and Shambles, and Gargoyle and DougR 'cos he's the only Democrat who pretends that he is a republican.... Aw Gawd I can just go on and on. Cool Beans said it all. |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Skivee Date: 08 Apr 08 - 11:17 PM Bobert, you jerk! After all the crap I put up with durin' yur campaign, I'da thunk we woulda been meetin' at least once a week or so, so we can keep tellin' each other how smart we are; and then you don't even put me on yer damned list! Even LH and Peace, those bast-...bastions of the community got on yer secret cheatin' list. And they did not even sleep in a Yugo splattered with monkey crap for you!...Or work with a smelly, farty hairball that has only 96% of my chronosomes. Bitter? More like rightious indignation if you ask me! So, I woulda put you at the top of my list, but now I'm gonna say Azizi so she could tell tales of Pittsburgh; Wolfgang for his European perspective; and Charley Noble, so I can steal arcane shanties from him. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: CarolC Date: 08 Apr 08 - 11:20 PM I exchanged emails with Claymore around Christmas time, pdq. You could probably still meet him if you really wanted to. |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 09 Apr 08 - 09:55 AM It would be invidious to list just 3, so I'd like to meet all the ones I've PMd and not met "live", yet... Like others I was sad never to have met Rick F. in person ,only on the 'phone and PM. Before he was diagnosed we had hoped to meet on his planned UK tour, sadly not to be. Carpe Diem, folks. Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: skipy Date: 09 Apr 08 - 05:11 PM Well, I've been PMing with one of my 3 due to this thread & it has cleared the air! Which is great, a little understanding from both parties goes a VERY long way! Regards to you all, Skipy |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Georgiansilver Date: 09 Apr 08 - 07:38 PM In spite of the obvious verbal battle I had with Martin Gibson in these BS threads...I was also in PM with him chatting about antiques in a civil and friendly manner. Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: John Hardly Date: 09 Apr 08 - 08:09 PM "People are not always what they seem eh?" Yeah. For instance, I've traded PMS with Don Meixner for years here on subjects from thumbpicks to guitars for people with lousy hands. He always seemed like a really nice guy. Then I met him last fall and he was exactly as nice and engaging in person. Oh, that's not the same, is it? |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: John Hardly Date: 09 Apr 08 - 08:11 PM That's supposed to read "PMs". Even I'll admit that "PMS" is funnier. So Don and I shared stories of our respective bouts with PMS. We did it via PM. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Genie Date: 09 Apr 08 - 08:58 PM Bobert, aw shucks, thanks for mentioning me in your "cheating" (i.e., more than 3 person) list. Come to the Getaway this year and we can meet up. That'd be wunnerful! G |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Emma B Date: 09 Apr 08 - 09:48 PM I don't really like these reoccuring mudcat 'beauty contests' they remind me too much of one of my favourite songs, At Seventeen and the spectacle of mutual ego massaging is not a pretty sight :) However, three of the favourite people I have already met are all mentioned here and one of the people I hope to meet for the first time soon too - you know who you are folks! There are still good friends yet to meet and many to meet again I hope as well as some regrets. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Skivee Date: 09 Apr 08 - 10:43 PM Well, Mister Ex=President-to-be Bobbert, I guess I can't stay mad at you after you tried so hard to serve your nation. What's a little monkey crap between friends. So I guess the only thing now is for you to choose which of Azizi, Wolfgang, or Mr. Noble gets bumped off my list by your return. You have to make the choice because otherwise I could be accused of vote rigging. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Genie Date: 09 Apr 08 - 10:49 PM Emma, I kind of agree about the 'beauty contest' threads, but I hope we're pretty much in consensus that mentioning a few Mudcatters by name in no way implies that they are the only ones we'd like to meet, or even necessarily our first choices. They may just be the ones someone happens to think of at the moment or the ones we've been PM'ing most recently, or whatever. G |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Big Al Whittle Date: 09 Apr 08 - 11:01 PM Feel free to bribe me. I haven't mentioned anyone yet that I'm dying to meet. But a realistic offer of drugs, sexual favours or money could secure you a place on my top three. Mind you - I make no promises. The top three places are bound to hotly contested. And to be frank its a bit like those gigs on Jools Holland's programmes - even if you're complete crap - we might just let you rub shoulders withthe stars, if the fix is in. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: SINSULL Date: 10 Apr 08 - 11:26 AM Bob Nelson - we email and talk but still haven't met. Katlaughing - see above Spaw and even more his long suffering wife and the boys. |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Morticia Date: 10 Apr 08 - 05:43 PM No one has mentioned Mudcat Jack.....though he has touched so many lives ( and liquor cabinets). I imagine he will be deeply wounded if Skarpi ever lets him read Mudcat anymore. |

Have you beat Bill Sables record then Bill D? Can't remember how many he had but I think you must have passed it! Cheers Dave |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: GUEST, Mr Grumpy Date: 11 Apr 08 - 07:36 AM I shall always regret not having met Rick Fielding. So generous and charming in sharing his knowledge. Curiously (so long as she had no idea who I was) I would like to meet Diane Easby - not to apply percussive persuasion, but because although she comes across as the worst b1tch in the whole of the Mudcat there is an undeniable huge store of knowledge and information there. If only it was not inside a porcupine guarded by a viper and a portuguese man of war jellyfish with a wolverine in the background. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Mr Happy Date: 11 Apr 08 - 09:16 AM The great thing about being part of the Mudcat family/tribe is that one can have experiences of strangers announcing 'You're Mr Happy, I'm ..........' A sort of fame/ infamy? |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Liz the Squeak Date: 11 Apr 08 - 12:00 PM Shall I do it, just to get it out of the way?? Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in fer me! Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Micca Date: 11 Apr 08 - 12:16 PM Liz, Dave Polshaw is the guy that looks like Captain Pugwash!! and if we could get him together with that bloke in Mad jacks at Hastings we would have Black Jake as well, it would make a nice pic. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Dave the Gnome Date: 11 Apr 08 - 04:44 PM Hehehe - Now there's something I'd be up for:-) I was hoping to get down to Jack in the Green but we are away in Yorkshire for our 35th wedding anniversary. Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Jun 09 - 04:04 PM John, how long have you been on Facebook? You have to relearn who everyone is because most Facebook monikers aren't the same as Mudcat monikers. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Little Robyn Date: 01 Jun 09 - 04:11 PM I always wanted to meet Malcolm Douglas but now it's too late. I'd like to meet Kytrad and Azizi - and if I won the LOTTO, I'd take them both to Padstow for Mayday next year! Then we'd meet up with all the British catters. What fun! Robyn half a world away. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Bill D Date: 01 Jun 09 - 07:52 PM (I do believe Bill Sables and Max and Big Mick and Dick Greenhaus and Susan of DT have met more than I) |

Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Azizi Date: 01 Jun 09 - 10:03 PM Hi Robyn half the world away. I'd love to meet you too and I love to experience festivals in places that are almost half the world away from me. There are lots of other people who post to this site who I'd love to meet. But I'm not going to name names because I'm bound to forget to mention some names. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Tug the Cox Date: 02 Jun 09 - 06:41 AM Have met or am aware of many onthis side of the pond, so will go for some of our colonial cousins, who I am unlikely to meet. Would like to sing street rhymes with Azizi, and shantis with Charlie Noble, and perhaps bump into Joe Offer and wish him well for all his efforts on our behalf. |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 02 Jun 09 - 10:09 AM If I simply MUST choose only three, then (in no order whatever) Art Thieme, Joe Offer, and Kendall. Oh, self-control be damned! And Sinsull, and Charlie Noble, and Catspaw, and Max, and Katlaughing, and Amos, and . . . and . . . and . . . Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: PoppaGator Date: 02 Jun 09 - 02:12 PM In answer to SRS's question of 4:04 pm yesterday: JOhn joined Facebook very recently ~ within the last couple of days. When I got his friend-request yesterday and OKd it, his "status" was a request for information: "How do it put my picture here?" Someone told him pretty quickly, since he had a profile picture in place within an hour or less. At first, I didn't know who this "JOhn Evans" requesting my "friendship" might be, but then I took a closer look at how he spells his name, with that capital-J/capital-O. Aha! His Facebook identity lists his location as "Leeds." Is Hull in the area of Leeds, and too small a city to be a "network area" on its own? I hope that's the case ~ it would be tragic if JOhn from Hull had relocated! |
Subject: RE: BS: 3 mudcatters I would like to meet & why From: Spleen Cringe Date: 02 Jun 09 - 06:35 PM I'd like to meet Les in Chorlton, Gedi, John J, Pip Radish, Shimrod, 8 Pints, Suibhne O'Piobaireachd, Rapunzel, Myrtle, Kate in Chorlton, Alan G, John Routledge, Matthew Edwards, Dave Bishop, Helen Jocys, Vin2 and possibly even Dave El Gnomo if we can get him over the border. I'd like to meet them tomorrow night at 8pm at the Beech in Chorlton for a night of mainly but not exclusively traditional songs. The rest of you are most welcome, too... |
