From: Bobert Date: 08 Apr 08 - 10:44 AM Well, "Mergul" (Morelle Mushrom) season is upon us and I reckon I can atke my one-good-arm self back in the woods where the poplar trees grow and find me a breadsack full but... ...what to do with them??? Last year we soaked them to get the ants out of them, of which there were planty, and then fried them... They were tough as shoe leather... So, please share your recipes/preparations... Thanks ahead of time, Bobert |

Subject: RE: BS: Morelle Mushroom Recipes??? From: Bobert Date: 08 Apr 08 - 11:28 AM Wow, G-Man, that is one very nice website... Now all I need is for 'um to pop up and get found... I ain't the best at findin' 'um but I'm gettin' better each year... There a folks who been hunting them all their lives and they can spot one from 50 feet away... Mr. Clifford says that one year there was a light snow that fell makin' it easier to see 'um and he got a gallon of them in a few minutes... I donm't know if I believe that??? B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Morelle Mushroom Recipes??? From: Rapparee Date: 08 Apr 08 - 12:56 PM Bobert, where I come from you can usually find morels near mayapple patches or on the southern side of slopes. Others say in burned areas. Usually nobody tells anyone else where they find morels, but I'm giving you the straight stuff here. Soak 'em in salted water to kill the bugs (several changes of salt water is recommended and then fry 'em up in butter (REAL butter!) and garlic. Not too much, now -- just enough to heat 'em up. Treat 'em kinda like the way to prepare snails for escargot. |

Subject: RE: BS: Morelle Mushroom Recipes??? From: RangerSteve Date: 08 Apr 08 - 03:20 PM I think Bobert wants to eat the morels. The way to prepare snails is to toss them in the trash. They are not food. |

Subject: RE: BS: Morelle Mushroom Recipes??? From: mandotim Date: 09 Apr 08 - 03:07 AM They taste fantastic as a replacement for the mushrooms in Boeuf Bourguignonne, and I also use them to make a flavoured olive oil similar to truffle oil. Tim |
