Subject: BS: Trudeau's crypt vandalized! From: 3refs Date: 27 Apr 08 - 12:55 PM Even in his eternal resting place, former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau is haunted by his past. Vandals crept into a picturesque cemetery in rural Quebec and scrawled "FLQ" and the French words for "traitor" and "bastard" in black spray-paint on his family's crypt. Trudeau, who was Prime Minister from 1968-79 and 1980-84, was a controversial figure in Quebec. He made enemies in the province in October 1970 when he invoked the War Measures Act during the FLQ crisis after a British diplomat(James Cross) and provincial cabinet minister Piertre Laporte were kidnapped Laporte was found murdered in the trunk of a car. The former Prime Minister also enraged separatists when he unilaterally repatriated the Canadian Constitution without the province's approval. I remember when he passed, and was amazed at the heads of state that attended his funeral. Bush and Castro where so close, they almost held hands! |
