I click the boxes for the messages I want to delete, hit "Process" and nothing happens.

Is there any way to delete PMs once you've read them? Or are they meant to stay around forever?

I don't seem to have any problem deleting messages either from the "inbox" or from archived PMs, using the procedure described.

A remotely possible cause for not seeing the effects of processing is that your browser is not set to refresh the page, so it continues to show you the first version (from Temp memory on your computer) on your machine, even if the page changes while you're still at that page.

If this is the cause, going to somewhere else and then coming back to your personal page might show a change; but the easier check is just clicking the "Refresh" button in most browsers to force an update. (F5 works as a "refresh page" button in most Windows programs, if you have a hard time spotting the button on your browser toolbars.)

I haven't heard of anyone having this problem for a couple of years; but it's easy to check, and caused a problem or two for some people in previous historical times.

In the unlikely event that a refresh shows the PMs you checked and processed were deleted and your browser just didn't tell you: in IE, Tools|Internet Options, General Tab, Browsing History, Settings Button will show a place to check "check for new page versions" or something like that. Other browsers should have a similar setting "somewhere," since it's needed to tell the browser how to handle pages you might want to look at offline as well as for how to update pages you're connected to.

It's not a refresh problem. They don't get deleted, ever. Neither does checking the Archive buttons do anything but as I don't know what that's for I don't need that to work

I'm using iCab on MacOS 9.1.

Hi, Jack -
The "delete" and "archive" processes are working normally, so my guess is that the problem is on your Internet browser. My usual first remedy is to clear the browser's cache (saved internet files) and history. I suppose it's also possible that some security setting on your browser is preventing the process.
Try a different browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, or whatever) and see if that does the trick.

hit 'reload' after doing the delete to give you Mudcat's version of your PMs after the process.

It is important to understand how a browser saves (caches) a copy of what you are doing until you do something to replace that copy.

(that's 'reload' instead of 'refresh'.)

Somewhere you can set a preference for how & when the cache is changed.
