Well, since we started I've talked to a librarian over in Wyoming who shot for Olympic pistol qualification.

Besides, this IS the Old West....

(We shoot on a range using a 25 yard "cell" with high berms and backstop. The "open" range runs from 25 to 650 yards and has the side of a mountain as a backstop. The targets are, initially ballistic urethane "spinners" so there is no chance of lead "backspatter". And not a dime of it is at taxpayer expense.)

I've heard of shopkeepers having weapons, but Librarians???
Bet Shane would have staged his breakdown elsewhere if he'd heard that.

Good grief. "I'm sorry, this book should have been back last week."

BANG.

I know what will cheer old "Shane" up! Our Library's pistol team may be shooting as early as next week! I know that he'd like to know that: six women on the firing line and myself coaching them!

Uttering many an "Eh?".

When's his trial coming up? Will he plead guilty? If a jury or judge finds him guilty will he be rescued by his friends, the illegal aliens? Or will he have a good lawyer who will help him beat the rap in spite of the witnesses, the security camera tapes, his fingerprints all over everything, the bloody footprint, the blood-soaked gloves, the ax with hairs stuck to it by matted blood, the ballistics evidence, the semen-soaked blue dress, the tire tracks, the skid marks in his underwear, the defense cuts, and the confession he gave the cops which was witnessed by the Pope, the Premier, and Officer Dana?

Stay tuned.

And "Shane": they're building that gallows for someone else, okay? People who do what you've done get life without parole in almost half the cases, so don't worry about the hammering and the ropes stretching outside your cell. It's possibly for someone else, maybe.

Tasers are the stuff to use now
On hosers in the local hoosegow
A jolt or two will do the trick
When a hoser is bedded in the nick
Like "Shane" McBride of great renown
Who destroyed the library in the town.

YOU, Little Hawk, are the one who caused the Board of Trustees of the Help A Hoser Foundation to change their minds and move "Shane" way down the list.

THAT led directly to his destruction of the Public Library in Blind River and his current predicament.

I am not a member of the Board and had no part in their decision. If YOU, Little Hawk, had not shot your mouth off "Shane" would be living in hoser heaven now.

Perhaps if I sent some friends to visit him...wait, he doesn't have any. Never mind, I'll think of something else.

How about the one for peine forte et dure?

After that you'll always play and sing flat:

Because you stand mute you are to be taken to the yard of the place when you have been confined and there laid upon the ground, your hands and feet tied to four stakes or rings, and all of the weight that you can bear and more laid upon your body, and on the first day you may have all of the water you wish from the source closest to the prison door but no bread, and on the second all of the bread left from previous days that you can eat but no water, and each day more weight is to be added, and so to continue until you plead or die.

Just wait until F. Cheryl finds out about the drawing and quartering. It will go one fo wo ways. Either she'll have a psycho fit and tear the Blind RIver jailhouse down with her bare hands and leave the deppidies lying around nursing their nuts....or the notion of a drawing and quartering will turn her on so bad she'll put in a request for vacation time on the appointed date... not sure which.

Here's a little recitation that should cheer up Poor Old "Shane":

It is the sentence of this Court that you, "Shane" McBride, be taken from hence back to the place of confinement, and on Tuesday next you be taken to the place of execution, where you shall be hanged by the neck until you are almost dead and then cut down, you privy members are to be cut off and burnt before you face and you shall then be drawn and your offal likewise burnt, and then your head stricken from your body and placed upon a spike over the main gate to the City of Blind River, and your body divided into four parts to be disposed of as the Premier of Canada shall see fit, and may God have mercy upon your soul.

I just betcha that hearing that will cheer him right up!

LOL!!! That's God's way of bringing about a closely-knit community from many mansions, Little Hawk. It's all good. It is only our tiny, blinkered mindsets. focused on unimportant worldly goals on a very small section of the playing field, that makes them seem otherwise. IF we could see the Truth, surely we would admire it and find Joy therein.

Here's an abstract -- maybe this can help explain Amos's tension:

While the Triezenberg-Zwanzig (TZ) formula and a modified version introduced by Wertheim both relate the surface tension of a liquid-vapor interface to interfacial correlation functions, they appear to support very different models of interface structure.
We resolve this paradox by showing that although the Wertheim and the TZ formulas are equivalent in the thermodynamic limit, their underlying physics as well as their range of validity is different. The former is valid only on very long length scales (requiring system sizes much larger than the capillary length), while the latter continues to be relatively accurate down to scales of the order of the bulk correlation length. Thus the TZ formula is consistent both with the capillary wave model, which gives correlation functions affected by the long-wavelength interface fluctuations that occur in a large system, and with the classical van der Waals picture, which holds for small system sizes.
