Subject: BS: Freddie saves the day at Edgbaston From: Arnie Date: 31 Jul 08 - 02:42 PM After a dismal first day charactised by the usual England batting collapse, it was a real treat to watch Freddie Flintoff take on the Saffers this afternoon. I still can't see why Vaughan insists on batting at no.3 - in fact if he wasn't the captain, he wouldn't be in the team at all. But while Freddie's firing on all cylinders there's still a bit of hope left. Reminds me of a young Botham! |

Subject: RE: BS: Freddie saves the day at Edgbaston From: Rapparee Date: 01 Aug 08 - 04:59 PM Probably because the bases were loaded -- Vaughan was batting third, and so Freddie would be batting cleanup. Vaughan gets a single, bases loaded from the two previous singles, and the pitcher walks Freddie so that they get one run instead of the four a homer would bring. Simply good strategy, I'd say. |
