Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: Stilly River Sage Date: 31 Aug 23 - 01:04 PM This got opened a little early - looks like the date is September 4. Started 15 years ago by Micca, who was looking forward to seeing you at the Getaway. Alas, no more Micca, but you've talked elsewhere about going to the Getaway this year. Happy early Birthday and have a good trip to the mid-Atlantic states later this fall! |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: Charmion Date: 09 Sep 18 - 01:48 PM Hi, Linn -- and Jon Freeman, too -- Thanks very much; I had a grand birthday. I'm afraid that I let the celebration vibe die down as soon as possible, as I don't feel equal to the challenge of maintaining that level of elation for an entire month. WRT strings: Maybe it's because I live in Canada, close to Mandolin Central in the bluegrass-loving U.S. of A., but I've never had trouble finding strings suitable for my mandolin. I used to have an octave (strung like an Irish tenor banjo), but that was no problem, either -- I put guitar strings on it, because that's what the builder used. I never let anybody buy strings for me, as I am the only player of things with strings and frets in the part of my kin-group that gives me prezzies. My husband gets a dazed look on his face at the very idea, and my brother would probably come up with a bagpipe reed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: Bat Goddess Date: 07 Sep 18 - 12:42 PM ??•*¨*•.¸¸Happy B.D., Charmion! ¸¸.•*¨*•?? Sorry I'm late...haven't had much "leisure" time lately when I've been either at FB or here. Waiting for the plumber right now...and he's probably (again!) following his GPS which sends him to Northwood instead of Nottingham (road of the same name; towns next to each other). Hope your day was delightful and you will be continuing to celebrate for at least a month! Linn |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: Jon Freeman Date: 05 Sep 18 - 01:50 PM Happy birthday Charmion and thanks for your contributions to the cat thread. I note you play mandolin. Did you get any strings? I’m happier on the GDAE (tenor banjo, mandolin) but just have some guitar string – oh and some single E stings for one banjo – must fix the root problem – on order for my (6 years younger than you) bd a bit later in the month. I always find that sort of present useful, at least if I can specify what, otherwise it can end up with wrong gauges including a CGDA (Jazz opposed to Irish for tb – way to light) and my Buchanan mandolin is a touch unusual in having a fixed bridge and pins and needing a set with bullets... |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: Charmion Date: 04 Sep 18 - 06:43 AM Yes, I am still here, at the musically significant age of 64. And Edmund is here, too, in his usual place at this time of day, in the kitchen making breakfast while I lounge about under the cat and behind a cup of coffee. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: Charmion Date: 06 Sep 08 - 10:34 PM Spaw -- I know who you are -- you're some kind of relation, right? A shirt-tail cousin, if I recollect correctly ... Or perhaps not. Just so long as you're not so closely related that I'm supposed to kiss you. Okay? Okay. And happy Easter to you, too. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Sep 08 - 10:08 AM Sorry for the tardiness in posting to your birthday thread. But since I'm here and all I thought.........................uh, wait a minute.........no, that's okay...... I was going to say that Dani was right and age is just a number and all that senile crap is just that! I mean, its all....................uh, just a minute, maybe I did have something else .........................uh.........OH! I got it now. What kind of word is "tardy" anyway? Its kinda' hard to figure where it may have come from and just saying it makes being late even worse....."YOU ARE TARDY!".......geeziz.....I was just a little late...............Truth is though I hate to be late whereas sister Connie is continually late for everything Its not she's forgetful but she's always interested in whatever is going on and it makes her late for the next place. People always seem to understand though but it drives me nuts. LOL......Drives me nuts! I heard that the Scots Grand Prix Champion driver Jackie Stewart wore a steering wheel with his kilt instead of a sporan. When asked about it he said, "It drives me nuts." Okay, so that was a bad joke but bad jokes are what the world is all about. Like, do you know what you get by mixing Holy Water with Ex-Lax? A religious movement. And I guess I should get moving too..............................I guess..........To get back to the original subject, uh............er,uh.......................hmmmmm...........................lessee here, uh...............huh......what was it now.........shits....bad jokes....nuts......Connie..........late.........tardy...................................senile and old.................birthday.....HEY! Yeah, that's it! Birthday thread!!!! Who the hell is having the birthday? Is it me? Can't be me or I'd remember 'cause that old age senility stuff is a bunch of crap. Did I already say that? Oh well, whatever....Just let me say HAPPY EASTERYep, a Happy Easter to all........Did it come early or something? Gotta' go.......seems that my bladder is calling.......whoa........aw geeziz.............Wonder where my clean clothes are?Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: GUEST,Dani Date: 06 Sep 08 - 08:42 AM '54'?! But, but.... ?! Proving yet again that age is just a number. You're a lovely woman with a fabulous spirit, and I'm glad you've saved some celebrating for the Getaway. I've learned a little over the past few years about taking birthday matters into your own hands, celebration-wise (pun intended), and you'll find that joy is often trebled by the forethought : ) Happy Birthday. Dani |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Charmion From: Charmion Date: 05 Sep 08 - 01:57 PM Thanks, everyone. The birthday was a bit of a bust -- all work and no play -- so I'm postponing the actual celebration part to the Getaway. I'm going to be 54 for a whole year, and I imagine I will get quite tired of it in 11 months or so. |

Sinsull said it, and I second (or third) it. I usually say to keep celebrating for at least a month, but this time I suggest just keep celebrating until Edmund's home and can celebrate with you. Sing, play and enjoy! Linn |
