Free to good home:-
A printed song book from the 1930s.
E Mardon's
Song Book
English, Irish, and Scotch Songs.
(that is what it says on the cover! unpaginated but I would say approx. 40 pages full of words to songs.
Usual rules apply:-
First to say "yes please" gets it & I don't require postag repaid.
Will post to anywhere in the world.

I am fed up, we the people from SCOTLAND and not SCOTCHLAND, ARE KNOWN AS SCOTS, BECAUSE SCOTCH IS WHISKY, AND WE ARE NOT A BLOODY DRINK, COME OVER TO SCOTLAND AND SAY HE SCOTCHMAN AND YOU WILL GET A KICKING.

I know that Goatfell, having lived there for 3 and a half years.
However a lot of people think Scotch means people who are of Scottish Nationality. I am sure they don't call you Scotch on purpose, they do not realise the differeenec between Scots and Scotch.

Lets make this clear

Scots are Scottish people

Scotch is that lovely drink that gets you plastered and is very often taken to a carry oots and especially when first footing.

What brough that outburst on? As I said at the top the spelling was as spelt on the cover of the book!
It is now on it's way by air to Joe, so you can check with him in a few days.
Skipy, who has just had a glass of scotch over at the post master's house & served 26 years in the RAF where there are 100s of SCOTS!
nuff said.

Unlike Villan, I'd prefer Scotch Irish whiskey if you please.
Thanks

If it's free, I don't care how you spell it... (there, that's Scots enough!)

The book was published in the 1930's, perhaps Scotch was an acceptable adjective then.

Skipy, me old mucker, I love Scottish music and if you ever come across owt similar I will try to get on the thread earlier!

Goatfell - Give us a break. Skipy was just repeating what the title was, not endorsing it. I think you are tilting at winmills here!

Cheers

I sing a song called 'OLD SCOTCH MOTHER MINE' but to upset anyone I sing 'old SCOTS mother mine' that is what I'm getting at, just change to title and we'll still understand what it is called.

I mean how wouls like to be a New Zealander Skipy, you problerly wouldn't like that, so it's that same as calling us SCOTS Scotch.

but it does sound lke a good book, pity about the title.

That's an interesting thing, Goatfell, and deserves a whole thread of it's own. In fact I think there has been a few of them. When do you change something so it does not offend? I think offensive terms for black people or for Jews should definitely be excluded and by that rule so should ofensive terms for any other colour, creed or race. But other terms seem OK - Remember the Australian cricket umpire joke? "Which of you bastards has been calling these bastards bastards?"

It can be a tough call and this book in particular, because of it's title, should maybe keep the offensive term - How else could anyone else have looked it up on the internet if we didn't know the correct title? Anyhow, like I said, probably a whole different topic but I am not going to start it up again!

Cheers

DeG
